GO posts train "on-time" information on line

Yesterday, GO Transit started post the “on-time” statistics for all of its train services.

You’ll find the statistics here and you can use the information to help plan your commute, based on the relative reliability of each scheduled trip.

The statistics show the percentage of Monday-to-Friday trips that arrived within five minutes of their scheduled time. GO has posted the average of all trips from April 2007 until March 2008.

The pages also indicate how many trips are operating at more than capacity — meaning trains that are carrying more passengers than the available seats. (The overcapacity figures result from information GO gathered in fall 2007.)

The data shows that, since April 2007, GO’s least reliable train trip is the eastbound trip on the 09 Lakeshore East line that leaves Union Station at 7:43 a.m. and arrives at Pickering Station at 8:08 a.m. Only 55 per cent of the trains operating on that trip arrived on time or within five minutes of the scheduled time.

However, most GO train trips operated on time or within five minutes of the scheduled time more than 80 percent of the time. The “on-time” page lists 188 Monday-to-Friday train trips and, of those, 130 — or 69 per cent — operated on time or within five minutes of schedule more than 80 per cent of the time. Only 45 of those 188 trips — or 24 per cent — operated on time or within five minutes of schedule more than 90 per cent of the time.

What’s the most reliable GO train trip? The Monday-to-Friday 09 Lakeshore East train that leaves Oshawa at 5:07 a.m. arrived at Union Station at 6:07 a.m. on time or within five minutes of the schedule 99 per cent of the time!
