Weekend event affects transit, April 20

Update, Sunday, April 20, 7 a.m.: this post revises earlier information. The parade will occupy another street, which means that it will affect more transit services, including routes operating by Brampton Transit, GO Transit, Mississauga Transit and the TTC. Only Mississauga Transit has posted details of its detours, but passengers on all other routes in the area should expect detours or delays.

On Sunday, April 20, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., the Region of Peel and City of Mississauga will close streets in the Malton area of Mississauga to accommodate the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Malton gurdwara’s Khalsa Day parade. Closed streets include Airport Road between Slough Street and Derry Road and Morning Star Drive east of Airport Road.

The parade will start at 7280 Airport Road around 1:45 p.m. and proceed along the eastbound lanes of Morningstar towards the Sikh Cultural Centre on Carrier Drive in northwest Toronto.

Four transit agencies operating buses in the Malton area will divert services during the parade.

Brampton Transit has not announced detours, but the parade may delay or divert buses operating on these routes:

30 Airport Road
5 Bovaird
18 Bramalea

GO Transit has announced that Airport Road will be closed but has not indicated how it will divert buses on its 34 Brampton Local route.

Mississauga Transit:

7 Airport:

Eastbound buses will operate along their regular route to Airport Road and Derry Road East, then detour:

eastward along Derry;
northward along Goreway Drive;
through the Westwood Mall Terminal; and then
southward along Goreway to Derry,
resuming their regular route eastward along Derry.

Westbound buses reverse this routing.

42 Derry:

Buses will operate along their regular route, but enter Westwood Mall Terminal from Goreway Drive instead of from Morning Star Drive.

22 Finch:

Buses will not operate along the route from 1 until 4 p.m. on Sunday.

11 Westwood:

Buses will operate along their regular route, but enter Westwood Mall Terminal from Goreway Drive instead of from Morning Star Drive.
