York Region Transit changes start April 27



New routes into the Vaughan Enterprise Zone, the Inspiration, McLeod’s Landing and Woodspring neighourhoods, new service to seniors residences in Keswick and Stouffville and revised service to the Box Grove and Clearview communities are the highlights of York Region Transit’s April 27 service changes. Service also resumes to Canada’s Wonderland.


Specifically, YRT will: introduce new routes; increase the service hours of current routes; decrease the service hours of current routes; extend current routes; shorten current routes; revise current routes; increase the frequency of service on current routes; increase services to colleges and universities; decrease services to colleges and universities; resume seasonal services; and adjust the schedules of current routes.


The changes affect these routes: Viva pink; 1 Highway 7; 2A 14th Avenue; 4 Major Mackenzie; 8 Kennedy; 9 Ninth Line; 10 York University — Woodbridge; 15 Stouffville Local; 18 Bur Oak; 20 Jane — Concord; 22 King City; 28 Zenway — Highway 27; 32 Aurora South; 40 Unionville Local; 41 Markham Local; 51 Keswick Local; 53 Woodspring — Clearmeadow; 55 Davis Drive; 57 Mulock Drive; 57A Mulock Drive; 58 Leslie North; 81 Inspiration; 82 Valleymede — Spadina; 83 Trench; 88 Bathurst; 99 Yonge South; 300 Business Express; 420 Newmarket High School; 422 Huron Heights High School


Introduce new routes


81 Inspiration:

Starting Monday, April 28, YRT buses will operate along this new route into the Inspiration and McLeod’s Landing subdivisions on the west side of Yonge Street between Gamble and Stouffville Roads in Richmond Hill. Buses will operate every 30 minutes during Monday-to-Friday rush hours only.

During Monday-to-Friday morning rush hours, buses begin their trips at Bernard Terminal, then proceed:

northward along Yonge Street;
westward along Jefferson Sideroad;
north- and eastward along Silver Maple Road;
southward along Yonge;
westward along Jefferson;
southward along Bathurst Street;
eastward along Towerhill Road;
southward along Selwyn Road;
eastward along Gamble Road; and then
southward along Yonge to the Bernard Terminal.

One bus each Monday-to-Friday morning will serve passengers travelling to Richmond Hill High School. The bus will begin its trip at Jefferson Sideroad and Silver Maple Road, follow the regular route to Yonge and Devonsleigh Boulevard, then proceed:

eastward along Devonsleigh;
southward along Yorkland Street, passing the high school; and then
westward along Bernard Avenue to the Bernard Terminal.

During Monday-to-Friday afternoon rush hours, buses begin their trips at Bernard Terminal then proceed:

northward along Yonge Street;
westward along Gamble Road;
northward along Selwyn Road;
westward along Towerhill Road;
northward along Bathurst Street;
north- and eastward along Silver Maple Road; and then
southward along Yonge to Bernard Terminal.

One bus each Monday-to-Friday afternoon will serve passengers travelling from Richmond Hill High School. The bus will also start its trip at the Bernard Terminal, but proceed:

eastward along Bernard Avenue;
northward along Yorkland Street, passing the high school; and then
westward along Devonsleigh Boulevard to Yonge Street,
following the regular route to Jefferson Sideroad and Silver Maple Road.

53 Woodspring — Clearmeadow:

Starting Sunday, April 27, YRT will operate buses along this new route, introducing transit service into the Woodspring neighbourhood and revising the current service in the Clearmeadow neigbourhood on the west side of Yonge Street between Green Lane and Mulock Drive in Newmarket. The new route replaces part of the current 57A Mulock Drive route.

Buses will operate seven days a week — from about 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. Mondays to Fridays, from about 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturdays and from about 9:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. on Sundays and holidays. The buses will operate every 30 minutes during Monday-to-Friday rush hours and every 60 minutes from about 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Mondays to Fridays, Monday-to-Friday evenings and all day Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

On Sundays, southbound buses start their trips at the Newmarket GO Bus Terminal, then proceed:

westward along Highway 9;
southward along Crossland Gate;
westward along Alex Doner Drive and Sykes Road;
southward along Bathurst Street;
eastward along Clearmeadow Boulevard;
southward along Doubletree Lane;
eastward along Mulock Drive;
southward along Yonge Street; and then
eastward along Savage Road into Weston Produce.

Northbound buses start their trips at Weston Produce, then proceed: westward along Savage Road;
west- and northward along Sawmill Valley Drive; and then
reverse the southbound route to the Newmarket GO Bus Terminal.

From Monday to Saturday, southbound buses begin their trips at Green Lane and Yonge Street, then proceed:

southward along Yonge;
westward along Aspenwood Drive;
south- and westward along Woodspring Avenue;
southward along Bathurst Street;
eastward along Highway 9;
southward into the Newmarket GO Bus Terminal;
westward along Highway 9;
southward along Crossland Gate;
westward along Alex Doner Drive and Sykes Road;
southward along Bathurst Street;
eastward along Clearmeadow Boulevard;
southward along Doubletree Lane;
eastward along Mulock Drive;
southward along Yonge Street; and then
westward along Sawmill Valley Drive to Sir William Mulock High School.

During Monday-to-Friday afternoon rush hours, some buses begin their southbound trips at East Gwillimbury GO Station picking up passengers from northbound GO Transit trains on GO’s 65 Barrie — Bradford route. They proceed westward along Green Lane West to Yonge Street and then follow the regular route to Newmarket GO Bus Terminal, where they end their trips.

Northbound buses begin their trips at Sir William Mulock High School then proceed:

westward along Sawmill Valley Drive;
northward along Doubletree Lane;
westward along Clearmeadow Boulevard;
northward along Bathurst Street;
eastward along Sykes Road and Alex Doner Drive;
northward along Crossland Gate;
eastward along Highway 9;
southward along Eagle Street West into the Newmarket GO Bus Terminal;
northward through the terminal;
westward along Highway 9
through the Upper Canada Mall parking lot to the south lot bus stop;
westward along Highway 9;
northward along Bathurst Street;
east- and northward along Woodspring Avenue;
eastward along Aspenwood Drive;
northward along Yonge Street;
west- and northward through the Green Lane Centre; and then
eastward along Green Lane West to Yonge.

During Monday-to-Friday morning rush hours, buses operating on northbound trips do not stop at Upper Canada Mall. Northbound buses leave the Newmarket GO Bus Terminal and continue westward along Highway 9 instead of travelling through the mall parking lot and then continue along the regular route to Green Lane and Yonge Street.

During Monday to Friday morning rush hours, some northbound buses begin their trips at Bathurst Street and Woodspring Avenue, proceed along their regular route to Green Lane and Yonge Street and continue eastward along Green Lane East to East Gwillimbury GO Station. Passengers can connect at the station with southbound GO Transit trains operating on GO’s 65 Barrie — Bradford route.

28 Zenway — Highway 27:

Starting Monday, April 28, YRT buses will operate along this new route into the Vaughan Enterprise Zone, northwest of Highways 7 and 27. Buses will operate along the route every 30 minutes during Monday-to-Friday rush hours only.

Southbound buses begin their trips at Rainbow Valley Drive and Zenway Boulevard, then proceed:

eastward along Zenway;
southward along Vaughan Valley Boulevard;
eastward along Highway 7;
southward along Highway 27; and then
eastward along Steeles Avenue West to the loop just west of Martin Grove Road.

Northbound buses reverse this routing to Vaughan Valley and Zenway Boulevards, then continue:

north- and westward along Vaughan Valley; and then
southward along Rainbow Valley Drive to Zenway.

Increase the service hours of current routes


88 Bathurst:

Starting Saturday, May 3, all buses operating on Saturdays start and end their trips at Seneca College’s King Campus

YRT will also increase the frequency of Saturday service.

2A 14th Avenue:

Starting Monday, April 28, YRT will increase the service into Box Grove, east of Ninth Line. All Monday-to-Friday rush hour trips will operate through Box Grove, instead of just four trips a day.

420 Newmarket High School Special:

Starting Monday, April 28, YRT will start to operate a new morning trip on the route, to accommodate restructuring the 57A Mulock Drive route and introducing the new 53 Woodspring — Clearmeadow route. A new eastbound weekday trip will leave Newmarket GO Bus Terminal at 7:30 a.m. and proceed:

westward along Highway 9;
southward along Crossland Gate;
westward along Alex Doner Drive and Sykes Road;
southward along Bathurst Street;
eastward along Clearmeadow Boulevard;
southward along Doubletree Lane; and then
eastward along Mulock Drive, arriving at Newmarket High School at 7:53 a.m.

The afternoon trip from the high school continues to operate along its current route and following its current schedule.

Decrease the service hours of current routes


15 Stouffville Local:

Starting Monday, April 28, YRT will reduce the number of daily Monday-to-Friday trips into the Lebovic Community Centre from 12 every day to nine every day. Reducing the number of trips to Lebovic will allow YRT to extend service to the Elmwood seniors’ residence.

Extend current routes


15 Stouffville Local:

Starting Monday, April 28, YRT buses will operate three daily trips to the Elmwood Gardens seniors residence. Buses leave Wal-mart at 10:50 a.m. and 12:50 and 2:50 p.m. Monday to Friday and proceed along the current route to Parkview Village, then continue:

northward along Ninth Line;
jog eastward along Main Street;
continue northward along Ninth Line;
westward along Elm Road to Elmwood Gardens;
northward along Glad Park Avenue;
westward along Millard Street;
southward along Ninth Line; and then
westward along Main Street to Eastern Gate Crescent;
resuming their regular route south- and westward along Eastern Gate.

The buses arrive at Elmwood Gardens at 11:05 a.m. and 1:05 and 3:05 p.m. Buses operating to Elmwood Gardens do not serve the Lebovic Community Centre.

51 Keswick Local:

Starting Monday, April 28, YRT buses will serve the Keswick Gardens seniors’ residence. Ten Monday-to-Saturday southbound trips operate to the residence from about 8 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

Southbound buses operate along their regular route to the Queensway and Church Street, then continue:

northward along the Queensway North to Keswick Gardens; and then
southward along Queensway to Church,
resuming their regular route eastward along Church.

55 Davis Drive:

Starting Sunday, April 27, all westbound trips, seven days a week, will operate through the parking lot of Upper Canada Mall, stopping at the south lot bus shelter, then leaving the lot at the exit opposite Eagle Street West and then continuing southward along Eagle into the Newmarket GO Bus Terminal.

Starting Monday, April 28, YRT will also extend one daily Monday-to-Friday morning rush hour trip and one daily Monday-to-Friday afternoon rush hour trip east to the Bales Drive Industrial Park. A bus will leave the Newmarket GO Bus Terminal at 8 a.m. Monday to Friday and operate along the regular route to the Highway 404 Town Centre, then continue:

eastward along Davis Drive to Bales Drive East, arriving at 8:25 a.m.

It will then proceed:

northward along Bales Drive East;
westward along Garfield Wright Boulevard;
southward along Bales Drive West; and then
westward along Davis Drive to the Highway 404 Town Centre,
resuming their regular route westward along Davis, arriving at the Newmarket GO Bus Terminal at 8:54 a.m.

A similar trip will leave the bus terminal at 4 p.m., Mondays to Fridays, arrive at Bales at 4:30 p.m. and return to the bus terminal at 4:54 p.m.

Shorten current routes


1 Highway 7

Starting Monday, April 28, YRT will cancel its current limited service during Monday-to-Friday afternoon rush hours to the Langstaff GO bus loop. Pedestrians will transfer between YRT buses and GO Transit buses and trains by walking across the new pedestrian bridge between Richmond Hill Centre Terminal and Langstaff GO Station.

83 Trench

Starting Monday, April 28, YRT will cancel its current limited service during Monday-to-Friday afternoon rush hours to the Langstaff GO bus loop. Pedestrians will transfer between YRT buses and GO Transit buses and trains by walking across the new pedestrian bridge between Richmond Hill Centre Terminal and Langstaff GO Station.

Revise current routes


58 Leslie North

Starting Monday, April 28, YRT will reverse how buses loop through Sharon.

All day Monday to Friday, southbound buses serving the 58A branch between Mount Albert and the Highway 404 Town Centre will operate along their current to Mount Albert Road and Howard Avenue, then proceed:

westward along Mount Albert; and then
southward along Leslie Street to Colonel Wayling Drive,
resuming their current route southward along Leslie.

Southbound buses serving the 58A branch will no longer operate along Howard and Colonel Wayling during Monday-to-Friday rush hours.

All day, Monday to Friday, northbound buses serving the 58A branch will continue to operate along their current route to Mount Albert.

During Monday-to-Friday rush hours, buses serving the 58 branch will operate along their current route to Leslie Street and Colonel Wayling Drive, then proceed:

eastward along Colonel Wayling;
northward along Howard Avenue;
eastward along Mount Albert Road;
northward along Donlands Avenue;
westward along Farr Avenue to Leslie; and then
southward along Leslie Street to Colonel Wayling,
resuming their current route southward along Leslie.

Starting Monday, April 28, YRT will adjust the schedule of the route.

57A Mulock Drive:

Starting Sunday, April 27, YRT will shorten the western end of the 57A Mulock Drive route so that buses on both the 57 and 57 A branches follow the same route into Weston Produce.

Westbound buses serving the 57A branch will operate seven days a week along their current route from the Highway 404 Town Centre to Mulock Drive and Doubletree Lane, then proceed:

westward along Mulock;
south- and eastward along Sawmill Valley Drive; and then
eastward along Savage Road into Weston Produce.

Buses serving the 57A branch will no longer proceed north of Mulock Drive to Newmarket GO Bus Terminal. YRT buses operating on the new 53 Woodspring — Clearmeadow route will serve this area.

Starting Monday, April 28, YRT will also adjust the schedules of the main 57 Mulock Drive route between Leslie Street and Weston Produce.

Increase the frequency of service on current routes


88 Bathurst:

Starting Saturday, May 2, YRT will increase the frequency of service on Saturdays from every 35 minutes to every 30 minutes. It will also extend the route on Saturdays.

Increase services to colleges and universities


88 Bathurst:

Starting Saturday, May 3, all buses operating on Saturdays start and end their trips at Seneca College’s King Campus.

YRT will also increase the frequency of Saturday service.

Decrease services to colleges and universities


10 York University — Woodbridge

The winter academic term at York University has ended, so, starting Monday, April 28, buses will operate every 45 minutes seven days a week. (The buses currently operate every 30 minutes during Monday-to-Friday rush hours and evenings and every 45 minutes at all other times of the week.)

Resume seasonal services


20 Jane — Concord

Starting Sunday, April 27, all YRT buses operating on the route, seven days a week, will serve Canada’s Wonderland.

Southbound buses will operate along their current route to Jane Street, just north of Major Mackenzie Drive and then enter Wonderland through the access gate and stop beside the employee entrance. The buses then return to Jane and resume their regular route southward along Jane.

Northbound buses reverse this routing.

4 Major Mackenzie:

Starting Sunday, April 27, all westbound buses operating seven days a week along the 4 Major Mackenzie branch between Jane Street and Woodbine Avenue will resume service to Canada’s Wonderland. Buses will operate along their current route to Jane Street, just north of Major Mackenzie Drive and then enter Wonderland through the access gate and stop beside the employee entrance. The buses then return to Jane and resume their regular route southward along Jane.

Eastbound buses do not enter Wonderland. Buses operating on the 4A branch that serves Major Mackenzie Drive between Weston Road and Mount Joy GO Station during Monday-to-Friday rush hours also do not enter Wonderland.

Adjust schedules of current routes


32 Aurora South:

Starting Monday, April 28, YRT will make minor Monday-to-Friday morning rush hour schedule adjustments to better reflect actual travel times.

Starting Saturday, May 2, YRT will increase the frequency of service from every 35 minutes to every 30 minutes on Saturdays. YRT will also increase the hours of service to Seneca College’s King Campus.

18 Bur Oak:

Starting Monday, April 28, YRt will adjust the Monday-to-Saturday schedules to decrease the amount of time that buses lay over between trips at Markham Stouffville Hospital. It will also begin to operate a new Monday-to-Friday westbound trip, leaving Markham Stouffville Hospital at 9:15 a.m.

300 Business Express:

Starting Monday, April 28, YRT will adjust the Monday-to-Friday afternoon rush hour schedule. The bus serving the Monday-to-Friday that currently leaves at 4:50 p.m. trip will leave five minutes later at 4:55 p.m. The bus serving the Monday-to-Friday trip that currently leaves at 5:20 p.m. will leave five minutes later at 5:25 p.m.

422 Huron Heights High School Special

Starting Monday, April 28, YRT will adjust the Monday-to-Friday afternoon schedule to better reflect actual travel times.

8 Kennedy:

Starting Monday, April 28, YRT will make minor schedule adjustments will be made for Monday-to-Friday afternoon rush hours to improve connections with GO Transit trains at Unionville GO Station.

22 King City:

Starting Saturday, May 3, YRT will adjust the schedule to allow a more reliable connection from a bus operating on the TTC’s 107D Keele North route. The bus that operates on a Saturday northbound trip that currently leaves Maple Community Centre at 6:35 p.m. will now leave 10 minutes later at 6:45 p.m.

58 Leslie North:

Starting Monday, April 28, YRT will adjust the late Monday-to-Friday evening schedule to to better reflect actual travel times. The bus operating on the 10:45 p.m. Monday-to-Friday southbound trip will now travel to the 404 Town Centre instead of ending its trip at Mount Albert Road and Leslie Street. YRT will also revise the route through Sharon.

41 Markham Local:

Starting Monday, April 28, YRT will adjust the schedules from about 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday to Friday to better reflect actual travel times. It will not change the times that buses leave Markville Mall.

57 Mulock Drive:

Starting Sunday, April 27, YRT will adjust the schedule to improve connections for passengers at Yonge Street and Mulock Drive.

9 Ninth Line:

Starting Monday, April 28, YRT will adjust the schedule so that the bus operating on the Monday-to-Friday trip leaving Markham Stouffville Hospital at 8:20 a.m. will now depart five minutes earlier at 8:15 a.m. This will improve the connection with buses operating on the 15 Stouffville Local route at Parkview Village.

40 Unionville Local:

Starting Sunday, April 27, YRT will adjust the schedules seven days a week to better reflect actual travel times. It will not change the times that buses leave Markville Mall and Woodbine Avenue and Rodick Road.

Starting Monday, April 28, YRT will adjust the Monday-to-Friday afternoon rush hour schedule to provide more consistent Viva service along Highway 7.

99 Yonge South:

Starting Monday, April 28, YRT will adjust the Monday-to-Friday schedules to better reflect actual travel times. It will also adjust the Monday-to-Friday afternoon rush hour schedules between 6 and 7 p.m. to reduce the time that buses and passengers wait at Richmond Hill Centre Terminal.
