GO Transit will introduce a new express route to and from Toronto Pearson International Airport, revise services to colleges and universities and resume service to Canada’s Wonderland when it launches its new schedules on Saturday, April 26.
Specifically, GO will: introduce a new route; cancel branches of current routes; increase services to colleges and universities; decrease services to colleges and universities; renumber current regular and seasonal routes; increase service on current regular routes; and resume a seasonal route.
The changes will affect these routes: 01 Lakeshore West; 21 Milton; 29 University of Guelph; 31 Georgetown; 37 Orangeville; 38 Bolton; 40 Airport Express; 41 Orangeville; 42 Bolton; 43 Canada’s Wonderland; 46 Highway 407 West; 50 U of T Scarborough — Centennial College; 52 Highway 407 East; 60 Canada’s Wonderland; 64 Newmarket — York University; 66 Newmarket Highway 400; 71 Stouffville; and 93 Durham College — U.O.I.T.
Introduce a new route
40 Airport Express:
Starting Saturday, April 26, GO will begin to operate an express bus route linking the Mississauga City Centre Terminal at Square One, Toronto Pearson International Airport and the Richmond Hill Centre Terminal.
Buses will operate along the new route seven days a week, with buses leaving Square One for the Airport every 30 minutes between 4:10 a.m. and 1:10 a.m. the following day. Every second bus operating on the route will continue beyond the Airport to the Richmond Hill Centre Terminal, offering York Region passengers hourly express service to and from the Airport.
Buses will travel without stopping from Square One to Pearson’s Terminal 1 and then continue without stopping to Richmond Hill Centre. Unlike most of GO’s other Highway 407 routes, buses operating on this route do not stop at York University.
The one-way fare for passengers travelling between Pearson and Square One is $3.75. The one-way fare for passengers travelling between Pearson and Richmond Hill is $4.85.
Cancel branches of current routes
01 Lakeshore West:
66 Newmarket Highway 400:Starting Saturday, April 26, GO will cancel early Monday-to-Sunday morning eastbound trips along Waterdown Road, Plains Road East and Fairview Street from Aldershot Station to Burlington Station. It will also cancel Monday-to-Sunday late-evening trips in both directions between Aldershot and Burlington.
Burlington Transit increased service and the number of trips on its 1 Fairview-Plains route on December 30, 2007, which will replace many of GO’s trips between the two stations (except for late Sunday evening trips). GO began the short-turn service between the two stations on September 1 until Burlington Transit had increased its resources — buses and drivers — to replace the GO service.
GO will also cancel Sunday and holiday evening trips to McMaster University from Aldershot GO Station.
Starting Monday, April 28, GO will cancel the Monday-to-Friday morning trip from Bradford to the Highways 400 and 88 and Highways 400 and carpool lots and the Monday-to-Friday afternoon trip from the lots to Bradford. Bradford passengers used these trips to transfer to or from the through buses on the route that operate both ways between Newmarket GO Bus Terminal and Yorkdale Station. GO first operated buses along this branch on April 30, 2007.
Increase services to universities and colleges
Although fewer people are travelling to universities as the winter term ends, GO continues to increase service on some routes that begin or end at the University of Guelph.
46 Highway 407 West:29 University of Guelph:Starting Monday, April 28, GO will add nine more eastbound trips and ten more westbound trips to this Monday-to-Friday route. Eastbound buses will operate from the University of Guelph about every hour from 5:50 a.m. until 9:50 p.m. Westbound buses will operate from York University about every hour from 6:35 a.m. until 10:35 p.m.
GO will also cancel some Sunday or holiday Monday evening trips.
Starting Monday, April 28, GO will add five more eastbound trips and six more westbound trips to this Monday-to-Friday route. Eastbound buses will operate from the University of Guelph about every hour from 5:40 a.m. until 5:40 p.m. and then about every two hours until 10:10 p.m. Westbound buses will operate from Cooksville GO Station about every hour from 7 a.m. until 7:05 p.m. and then about every two hours until 11:40 p.m.
GO will also cancel some Sunday or holiday Monday evening trips.
Fewer people are travelling to colleges and universities as the winter academic term ends, so GO will decrease its services on some routes until September.
93 Durham College — U.O.I.T.:31 Georgetown:Friday, April 25 will be the last day until September that GO operates buses on this route.
52 Highway 407 EastSunday, April 20 was the last day until September that a bus operated on a late evening trip to the University of Guelph from York Mills Station. A bus ran on the trip late every Sunday and holiday evening and will now end its trip at the downtown Guelph Bus Terminal. Friday, April 25 will be the last day until September that buses operate on two afternoon trips from the University of Guelph to York Mills. Buses run on the two trips every Friday afternoon and will now start their trips in downtown Guelph.
46 Highway 407 West:GO already reduced services on this route on April 7. Starting Monday, April 28, it will further reduce services by eliminating some trips from about 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Mondays to Fridays on the branch of the route between Mount Joy GO Station and York University. Buses will operate every 30 minutes during Monday-to-Friday rush hours and every hour between the rush hours for the summer months, instead of every 30 minutes all day during the winter academic term. Starting Monday, April 28, it will also eliminate some westbound Monday-to-Friday morning rush hour trips from Pickering GO Station to York University and some eastbound Monday-to-Friday afternoon rush hour trips from York University to Pickering GO Station.
Sunday, April 20 was the last day until September that GO buses operated on Sunday evening trips between York University and the Oshawa Bus Terminal, stopping at Durham College / University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) and Unionville GO Station.
01 Lakeshore West:GO already reduced services on this route on April 7 and April 14. Starting Monday, April 28, it will further reduce services by eliminating some trips from about 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Mondays to Fridays on the branches of the route between Streetsville GO Station and York University and between Meadowvale GO Station and York University. On both branches, buses will operate every 30 minutes during Monday-to-Friday rush hours and every hour between the rush hours for the summer months, instead of every 30 minutes all day during the winter academic term.
Sunday, April 20 was the last day until September that GO buses operated on Sunday afternoon and evening trips between York University and the University of Guelph and between York University and the Hamilton GO Centre, stopping at McMaster University.
GO will also increase service on on the branch of this route operating between York University and the University of Guelph Mondays to Fridays.
Sunday, April 20 was the last day until September that buses operated on late evening trips to McMaster University from Aldershot GO Station. Buses operated on these trips late every Sunday evening.
GO will also cancel a branch of this route.
29 University of Guelph:Starting Monday, April 28, GO will cancel two southbound and two northbound trips until September.
50 U of T Scarborough — Centennial College:Sunday, April 20 was the last day until September that buses operated on Sunday or afternoon and evening trips between Cooksville GO Station and the University of Guelph.
GO will also increase service on this route at other times of the week.
Friday, April 25 will be the last day until September that GO operates buses on this route.
Renumber current regular and seasonal routes
Starting Monday, April 28, GO will renumber two current regular routes:
41 Orangeville is now37 Orangeville. 42 Bolton is now
38 Bolton.
Starting Sunday, May 4 will resume and renumber a seasonal route:
43 Canada’s Wonderland is now60 Canada’s Wonderland.
Increase service on current regular routes
Starting Monday, April 28, GO will add three new westbound bus trips from Union Station early on Monday-to-Friday mornings.
71 Stouffville:Starting Monday, April 28, GO will add one southbound Monday-to-Friday trip, leaving Orangeville Mall at 7:27 a.m. and arriving at Brampton GO Station at 8:25 a.m., just in time for passengers to transfer to a southbound GO train on the 31 Georgetown route. It will also add one northbound Monday-to-Friday trip, leaving Brampton GO Station at 4:05 p.m., picking up passengers transferring from the train that arrived at 3:57 a.m. That trip arrives in Orangeville at 5 p.m.
GO will also adjust the schedule so that the trip that currently leaves Brampton at 7:15 p.m. will leave ten minutes earlier at 7:05 p.m.
GO will also renumber the route.
Starting Monday, April 28, GO will add a number of northbound trips during Monday-to-Friday afternoon rush hours. GO will also adjust schedules for most northbound trips during Monday-to-Friday afternoon rush hours.
60 Canada’s Wonderland:
Canada’s Wonderland opens for the season on Sunday, May 4, and GO Transit will resume service to the park that day.
Buses will operate between York Mills Station and the park, stopping only at Yorkdale Station, 10 minutes after leaving York Mills. The buses operate only when Canada’s Wonderland is open. The park is closed between May 5 and 8, but reopens for the weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 9, 10 and 11 and finally opens seven days a week until September on Friday, May 16.
