Don Valley Parkway closed, buses detour, May 4

The City of Toronto will conduct its annual spring maintenance of the Don Valley Parkway this Sunday, May 4 and close the Parkway from 2 a.m. on Sunday until 5 a.m. on Monday, May 5.

Although GO Transit has not announced detours, closing the Parkway will likely affect bus service on GO’s 65 Barrie and 71 Stouffville routes and passengers can expect detours and delays.

On previous occasions when the City has closed the Parkway, GO has used these detours:

Southbound buses on these routes will likely operate on their regular routes to Highways 407 and 404 and then continue:

westward along Highway 407;
southward along Highway 427;
eastward along the F. G. Gardiner Expressway to York Street;
eastward along Harbour Street; and then
northward along Bay Street into the Union GO Bus Terminal.

Northbound buses will likely operate from the terminal:

southward along Yonge Street;
westward along Lake Shore Boulevard West and the F. G. Gardiner Expressway, then reverse the above routing.

Note that GO buses will not have access to the Union Terminal during the Sporting Life 10k run on Sunday, May 4 from about 7 until 11 a.m. Buses will drop off and pick up passengers on the north-east corner of Bay Street and Queens Quay West during the run.

Closing the Parkway may also affect some service on the 09 Lakeshore East route — the bus operating on the Sunday 5:40 a.m. bus-only trip from Oshawa GO Station to Union Station will likely travel along its regular route to Highway 401 and the Don Valley Parkway, then continue:

westward along Highway 401;
southward along Avenue Road;
eastward along Oxton Avenue;
southward along Oriole Parkway;
westward along Lonsdale Road;
southward along Avenue Road, Queen’s Park, Queen’s Park Crescent West, University Avenue and York Street;
eastward along Harbour Street; and then
northward along Bay Street to the Union Station GO Bus Terminal.

Buses operating on the Sunday 6:20 a.m. and Monday 1:20 a.m. bus-only trips from Union to Oshawa will likely travel:

southward along Yonge Street;
westward along Lake Shore Boulevard West;
northward along York Street, University Avenue, Queen’s Park Crescent East, Queen’s Park and Avenue Road;
eastward along Lonsdale Road;
northward along Oriole Parkway;
westward along Oxton Avenue;
northward along Avenue Road; and then
eastward along Highway 401 to the Don Valley Parkway,
resuming their regular route eastward along Highway 401.
