Brampton Transit, the Hamilton Street Railway, Mississauga Transit and York Region Transit will join other City and Regional departments and services to mark National Public Works Week, May 20 to 24, with a bus road-eo, a bus pull, displays, free tours and other activities.
Brampton Transit
The City of Brampton’s Works and Transportation Department kicks off the week kicks off with a tour and flag-raising at Brampton Transit’s new Sandalwood facility from 9 a.m. until noon on Tuesday, May 20.
On Wednesday, May 21, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., school kids will enjoy a Brampton Transit bus tour including a visit to the Williams Parkway Yard to teach the children about paving, concrete, sweeping, and producing signs and see equipment display. The tour of the new Brampton Transit Sandalwood Facility will include a bus wash.
From 10:30 a.m. until noon on Thursday, May 22, City of Brampton employees will pool their collective muscle to pull a Brampton Transit bus a distance of 50 feet in the fastest possible time on Wellington Street West in front of Brampton City Hall. As many as 15 to 20 teams compete in this annual event.
Hamilton Street Railway
Everyone can watch and cheer on HSR drivers as they compete against each other and weave full-size buses through a challenging course at a bus road-eo on Tuesday, May 20, from 9 a.m. until noon at Bayfront Park.
The HSR will celebrate the official opening of the upgraded Eastgate bus terminal on Friday, May 23 from 10 until 11 a.m.
The City of Hamilton’s Public Works department — including the HSR — will participate in public works displays at the Hamilton City Centre, 77 James Street North, on Tuesday, May 20 from 9 a.m. until noon and at various Hamilton Zeller’s stores on May 18, 21, 22, 23 and 24. (Today’s display is at the Waterdown store, 30 Horseshoe Crescent, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.)

Mississauga Transit
Free public tours of the Mississauga Transit building at 975 Central Parkway West and the Engineering and Works building at 3185 Mavis Road will start at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. every day from Tuesday, May 20 to Friday, May 23.
During the tours, you can discover how the City makes street signs, ride a Mississauga Transit bus through a power wash and find out how the City controls every traffic signal in Mississauga.
On Saturday, May 24 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Mississauga Civic Centre, you can view current progress and preliminary designs for the Bus Rapid Transit project and enjoy a number of other activities — including food and entertainment — that kids (and adults) will enjoy.

York Region Transit
On Saturday, May 24, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., York Region staff will host open houses at the Waste Management Centre at 100 Garfield Wright Boulevard and the Bales Drive Operations Centre at 90 Bales Drive. (Both sites are in the Woodbine Avenue and Davis Drive area of East Gwillimbury.) A YRT viva bus will provide free shuttle service between the two facilities, and offer a side trip to the YRT depot in Newmarket, where the bus will pass through a bus wash.
