Weekend events affect transit, May 23, 24 and 25

Special events in Holland Landing, Markham, Mississauga, Newmarket and Vaughan will affect transit services this weekend, Friday, May 23, Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25.


The events will affect these routes:

GO Transit: 65 Barrie

Mississauga Transit: All routes; and Carassauga Islington Subway Link; Carassauga Malton Link; Carassauga North Shuttle, Carassauga South Shuttle, Carassauga West Shuttle, Carassauga West — North Link.

Region of Peel TransHelp: Carassauga Hershey — Tomken Link, Carassauga Lithuania Link.

Toronto Transit Commission: 102 Markham Road

York Region Transit: Viva Blue; 1 Highway 7, 20 Jane — Concord, 52 Holland Landing, 55 Davis Drive; 56 Gorham — Eagle; 98 Yonge North; 520 Newmarket Community Bus.


Holland Landing:

From 8 until 11 a.m., on Saturday, May 24, the Town of East Gwillimbury will close Bradford Street in Holland Landing area to accommodate the Ramp and Rails Run.

GO Transit and YRT will detour bus services during the event.

GO Transit

65 Barrie:

Southbound buses operate along their regular route to Bridge Street and Holland Landing Road, then detour:
eastward along Holland Landing Road to Yonge Street,
resuming their regular route southward along Yonge.

Northbound buses reverse this routing.

GO is advising passengers to flag buses down on Holland Landing Road. The buses will skip all stops on Mount Albert Road, Toll Road, Bradford Street and Yonge Street while the event is taking place.

An event in Newmarket on Sunday, May 25 may also affect buses operating on the 65 Barrie route.

YRT

52 Holland Landing:

Southbound buses start their trips at Sand Road and Queensville Sideroad, then proceed:
eastward along Queensville;
southward along 2nd Concession Road; and then
westward along Mount Albert Road to Yonge Street,
resuming their regular route southward along Yonge.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route to Mount Albert and Grist Mill Road, then detour:
eastward along Mount Albert;
northward along 2nd Concession Road;
westward along Queensville Sideroad;
southward along Park Avenue;
eastward along Sunset Avenue; and then
northward along Sand Road to Queensville.


Markham

From 9:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, the Town of Markham will close Main Street between Highway 7 and Robinson Street to accommodate the Main Street Markham merchants’ Pedestrian Day.

The TTC and YRT will divert bus services during the event.

TTC

102 Markham Road:

Southbound buses operate along their regular route to Main Street and Parkway Avenue, then detour:
eastward along Parkway;
southward along Wooten Way; and then
westward along Highway 7,
resuming their regular route southward along Main.

Northound buses will reverse this routing.

YRT

1 Highway 7:

Westbound buses operate along their regular route.

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Highway 7 and Main Street, then detour:
eastward along Highway 7 and then;
northward along Wooten Way to Church Street,
resuming their regular route eastward along Church.


Mississauga

Mississauga Transit and Region of Peel TransHelp will play key roles during this weekend’s Carassauga, Mississauga’s city-wide multicultural festival, supplying free rides to Carassauga participants on regular Missisissauga Transit buses and free shuttle bus services among the various pavilions.

Carassauga takes place tomorrow, Friday, May 23 from 7:30 p.m. until midnight, Saturday, May 24, from 3 p.m. until midnight and Sunday, May 25 from 1 until 7 p.m.

Free rides

MT passengers can ride free this weekend if they show a Carassauga passport to an MT driver. The free rides are available on any regularly scheduled Mississauga Transit bus operating during Carassauga hours and on buses operating along the special Carassauga Shuttle routes. Children younger than 12 years old who are accompanying adults with Carassauga passports can also ride free.

Shuttle bus services:

Three free MT shuttle bus routes operate every 30 minutes to help event participants travel among the various pavillions.

North Shuttle route

Starting at the China Pavilion (Saviour of the World Chinese Catholic Church, 30 Bristol Road West), MT buses proceed every 30 minutes:

Eastward along Bristol Roads West and East;
southward along Kennedy Road and Central Parkway East;
westward along Mississauga Valley Boulevard;
northward along Arista Way;
eastward along Burnhamthorpe Road East;
southward along Havenwood Drive;
westward along Bloor Street;
northward along Dixie Road;
westward along Matheson Boulevard East;
northward along Kennedy;
eastward along Coopers Avenue;
east- and southward along Rose Cherry Place
westward along Matheson;
southward along Kennedy;
westward along Bristol to the China Pavilion.

The North Shuttle serves the pavilions of China, Armenia (Frank McKechnie Community Centre, 370 Bristol Road East), Caribbean and Poland (Mississauga Valley Community Centre, 1275 Mississauga Valley Boulevard), Greece (Burnhamthorpe Community Centre, 1500 Gulleden Drive — the bus stops on Havenwood Drive beside the Centre), International (Tomken Twin Arena, 4499 Tomken Road), Guyana and Africa (Hershey Sports Centre, 5800 Rose Cherry Place), Egypt, Cyprus, India and the Phillipines (Hershey Centre, 5100 Rose Cherry Place).

You can transfer to and from the South Shuttle at the Mississauga Valley Community Centre. You can transfer to and from the West — North Link at Saviour of the World Chinese Catholic Church. You can transfer to and from the Hershey — Tomken Link , the Islington Subway Link and the Malton Link at the Tomken Twin Arena, the Hershey Sports Centre and the Hershey Centre.

South Shuttle route

Starting at the Pavilions of the Caribbean and Poland (Mississauga Valley Community Centre, 1275 Mississauga Valley Boulevard), MT buses proceed every 30 minutes:


east- and southward along Mississauga Valley;
eastward along Bloor Street;
southward along Tomken Road;
eastward along Dundas Street East;
south- and eastward along Blundell Road;
southward along Dixie Road;
eastward along the Queensway East;
southward along Cawthra Road and
around the Cawthra Community Centre loop;
northward along Cawthra Road;
westward along the Queensway West and East;
northward along Mavis Road;
westward along Paisley Boulevard West; and
around the Huron Park Community Centre loop;
eastward along Paisley;
northward along Mavis Road;
eastward along Central Parkways West and East; and then
north- and westward along Mississauga Valley to the Caribbean and Poland Pavilion.

The South Shuttle serves the Pavilions of the Caribbean and Poland, Serbia (St. Sava Serbian Centre, 2520 Dixie Road — bus stops on Blundell Road), Turkey and Italy (Cawthra Community Centre, 1399 Cawthra Road), Hawaii and Azerbaijan (Huron Park Community Centre, 830 Paisley Boulevard).

You can transfer to and from the North Shuttle at the Mississauga Valley Community Centre. You can transfer to and from the Lithuania Link at Huron Park Community Centre.

West Shuttle route:

Starting from the South Common Centre, buses operate every 30 minutes:

eastward along Burnhamthorpe Road West;
northward along Mississauga Road and Queen Streets South and North Streetsville;
turning around at the Portuguese Cultural Centre, then
southward along Queen;
eastward along Britannia Road West;
southward along River Grove Avenue;
westward along Bristol Road West;
southward along Queen Street South Streetsville and Mississauga Road;
westward along Burnhamthorpe Road;
southward along Erin Mills Parkway; and then
west- and northward along South Millway West,
returning to South Common Centre.

The West Shuttle serves the pavilions of Jamaica (South Common Community Centre, 2233 South Millway West), Croatia (Church of the Croatian Martyrs, 4605 Mississauga Road), Portugal (Portuguese Cultural Centre of Mississauga, 50 Queen Street North), Scotland (River Grove Community Centre, 5800 River Grove Avenue) and Macedonia (St. Elija Macedonian Orthodox Church, 1775 Bristol Road West).

You can transfer to the West — North Link route at St. Elija Macedonian Orthodox Church. You can transfer to the Lithuania Link at Huron Park Community Centre.

Carassauga has also worked with MT and TransHelp to operate link service between the various routes and to and from specific Carassauga sites.

Hershey — Tomken Link:

You can park at either of the Hershey Centres — together housing six pavilions — or the Tomken Twin Arena — housing 14 pavilions — and use this continuous link to travel between the two areas or transfer to other shuttle buses to visit other pavilions.

Every 15 minutes continuously throughout the Festival hours, a TransHelp bus will pick up and drop off passengers at the Tomken main entrance in the parking lot, at the Hershey Sports Centre main entrance in the parking lot beside the Africa and Guyana pavilions and on Rose Cherry Place by the main entrance to the Egypt pavilion in the Hershey Centre. Buses travel from Tomken along Tomken Road, Matheson Boulevard West, Kennedy Road and Rose Cherry Place. Buses travel from the Hershey Centres along Rose Cherry, Matheson and Tomken to the Twin Arena.

You can transfer to and from the North Shuttle at Tomken Twin Arena and the Hershey Centres.

Lithuania Link:

Every 20 minutes between 5 and 9 p.m. on Saturday and from 2 and 6 p.m. on Sunday, a TransHelp bus will pick up and drop off passengers at the front door of the Huron Park Community Centre and the front door of the Lithuania Pavilion in Anapilis Christian Community Centre at 2185 Stavebank Road. Buses operate from Huron Park along Paisley Boulevard West, Mavis Road and Stavebank Road and reverse the routing from Anapilis. The South Shuttle bus does not serve the Lithuania pavilion.

Islington Subway Link:

An MT bus will pick up passengers at Islington Station at the start of each day’s activities and return them to the station at the end of each day’s activities. One bus only will run in each direction each day of the event.

The bus leaves Islington at 7 p.m. on Friday, 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and 12:30 p.m. on Sunday and operates express along Bloor Street West, Dundas Street West, Jopling Avenue, Bloor, Kipling Avenue, Burnhamthorpe Road and Tomken Road, stopping only on Tomken in front of the Tomken Twin Arena. It then operates express along Tomken, Matheson Boulevard West, Kennedy Road and Rose Cherry Place stopping only at the Hershey Sports Centre and the Hershey Centre.

The bus picks up passengers at on Tomken Road in front of the arena at 11:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 6:30 p.m. and operate express along Tomken, Matheson Boulevard West, Kennedy Road and Rose Cherry Place, stopping only at the Hershey Sports Centre and Hershey Centre. The bus picks up passengers on Rose Cherry in front of the main entrance of each centre at 11:40 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 6:40 p.m. on Sunday. Buses then operate express along Rose Cherry, Matheson, Eglinton Avenue, Highway 401, Highway 427, Dundas Street West, Islington Avenue and Bloor to Islington Station.

You can transfer to and from the North Shuttle at Tomken Twin Arena and the Hershey Centres.

Malton Link:

An MT bus will pick up passengers at Westwood at the start of each day’s activities and return them to the station at the end of each day’s activities. One bus will run in each direction each day of the event. An extra bus will operate in both directions early on Saturday evening.

The bus will pick up passengers at Westwood at 7 p.m. on Friday, 2:30 and 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and 12:30 p.m. on Sunday and operate express along Morning Star Drive, Goreway Drive, Derry Road West, Dixie Road, Eastgate Parkway, Tomken Road, stopping on Tomken in front of the Tomken Twin Arena, then continue express again along Tomken, Matheson Boulevard West, Kennedy Road and Rose Cherry Place, stopping only at the Hershey Sports Centre and the Hershey Centre.

The bus will pick up passengers at Tomken at 11:30 p.m. on Friday, 6:30 and 11:30 p.m. on Saturday and 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, then operate express along Tomken, Matheson, Kennedy and Rose Cherry stopping only at the Hershey Sports Centre and the Hershey Centre. The bus will pick up passengers on Rose Cherry in front of the main entrance to each centre at 7 p.m. on Friday, 6:55 and 11:30 p.m. on Saturday and 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, operating express along Matheson, Dixie Road, Derry Road, Goreway Drive and Morning Star Drive to Westwood.

You can transfer to and from the North Shuttle at Tomken Twin Arena and the Hershey Centres.

West — North Link:

You can travel for free on buses operating on MT’s regular 10 Bristol — Britannia route if you have a Carassauga passport to link between the West and North Shuttle routes. After 10 p.m. on Saturday, when MT no longer operates buses on the 10 Bristol — Britannia route, a bus will continue to operate every 30 minutes along Bristol Road West, linking the Macedonia and China pavilions.

Newmarket

The annual Easter Seals Run / Walkathon will take place at Upper Canada Mall and along Yonge Street north of Davis Drive on Sunday, May 25 from 8:15 a.m. until noon.

YRT and GO Transit will revise bus services during the event.

GO Transit

65 Barrie:


The event will restrict the number of traffic lanes on Yonge Street north of Davis Drive, and may delay buses travelling in both directions on the route.

YRT

55 Davis Drive:


Buses will not travel through the Upper Canada Mall parking lot.

56 Gorham — Eagle


Buses will not travel through the Upper Canada Mall parking lot.

520 Newmarket Community Bus


Buses will not travel through the Upper Canada Mall parking lot. The event will also restrict the number of traffic lanes on Yonge Street north of Davis Drive, and may delay buses travelling in both directions on the route.

Viva blue:


The event will restrict the number of traffic lanes on Yonge Street north of Davis Drive, and may delay buses travelling in both directions on the route.

98 Yonge North:


The event will restrict the number of traffic lanes on Yonge Street north of Davis Drive, and may delay buses travelling in both directions on the route.

(Note that construction along Davis Drive will also affect services in Newmarket on Sunday, May 25.)


Vaughan

Until about 10:45 a.m., on Sunday, May 25, the City of Vaughan will close Jane Street between Kirby and Teston Roads and several other streets to accommodate the Run for Vaughan.

YRT will detour bus service during the event.

20 Jane — Concord:

Southbound buses start their trips at Jane Street and Brandon Gate Drive, then proceed:
eastward along Brandon Gate;
southward along Melville Avenue; and then
westward along Cunningham Avenue to Jane,
resuming their regular route southward along Jane.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route to Jane Street and Brandon Gate Drive, where they end their trips.
