Hamilton opens renovated Eastgate Terminal



David Sweet, Member of Parliament for Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale, on behalf of the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Hamilton City Councillor Chad Collins officially opened the newly renovated Eastgate Square Transit Terminal on Friday, May 23. The grand opening was part of the Hamilton celebration of National Public Works Week.

The new terminal can accommodate as many as eight buses at the same time. It also has fully accessible platforms, modern, low-maintenance shelters, and high security lighting.

The new Eastgate Square terminal supports Hamilton’s Transportation Master Plan, which includes a 25-year growth initiative to increase transit ridership.

The Government of Canada invested $1.6 million to renovate the terminal through the Public Transit Capital Trust. (The Federal budget for 2008 also authorizes the government to allocate $500 million among the provinces and territories to invest in public transit.
