Weekend events affect transit, June 13, 14, 15 and 16



Update: Saturday, June 14, 6:16 a.m. — this post now contains details on how an event in Uxbridge will affect transit services and revised information on GO Transit detours in Oshawa.


Several special events will affect transit service this weekend in Burlington, Oshawa, Port Credit (Mississauga), Richmond Hill, Toronto and Uxbridge.


The Friday, June 13 events are: the Mississauga Waterfront Festival; the Sound of Music Festival; and the Taste of Little Italy.

The Saturday, June 14 events are: the Heritage Village Day; the Fiesta Week Parade; the Highland Creek Heritage Festival Parade; the Mississauga Waterfront Festival; the MuchMusic Video Awards; One Hundred Years of Anne in Uxbridge; the Sound of Music Festival; and the Taste of Little Italy.

The Sunday, June 15 events are: the Father’s Day Run / Walk for Prostate Cancer; the Mississauga Waterfront Festival; the MuchMusic Video Awards; One Hundred Years of Anne in Uxbridge; the Rolling Rampage; the Sound of Music Festival; and the Taste of Little Italy.


The events affect these routes:

Burlington: the Sound of Music Festival; and Grande Festival Parade.


The Sound of Music Festival

From 6 p.m. on Friday, June 13 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, the City of Burlington will close several streets in downtown Burlington to acccommodate the annual festival.

Burlington Transit will detour buses operating on several routes during the event.

2 Brant:

Southbound buses operate along their regular route to Brant and Caroline Streets, then detour:

eastward along Caroline; and then
southward along John Street to the Downtown Burlington Terminal.

Northbound buses reverse this routing.

Burlington Transit will also further detour this route during the Grande Festival Parade from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 14. It will also extend the hours of service tonight, Friday, June 13 and tomorrow night, Saturday, June 14 so that the last trip leaves the Downtown Terminal at midnight on both evenings.

Festival Shuttle:

From 6 p.m. until midnight on Friday, June 13, noon until midnight on Saturday, June 14 and noon until 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, Burlington Transit will offer non-stop shuttle service along the 1 Brant route between the Burlington GO Station and the Downtown Burlington Bus Terminal. By parking at the station for free and riding on the shuttle to the festival you can help reduce to environmental effects of driving to the events. Your contribution of $2 will offset the costs of service.

5 Francis:

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Ontario and Locust Streets, then detour:

northward along Locust;
eastward along Caroline Street;
southward along John Street;
eastward along James Street;
southward along Elizabeth Street;
westward along Pine Street; and then
northward along John Street to the Downtown Burlington Bus Terminal.

Westbound buses reverse this routing.

Burlington Transit will also further detour this route during the Grande Festival Parade on Saturday, June 14.


Sound of Music Grande Festival Parade

From 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, the City of Burlington will close several streets to accomodate the parade.

Burlington Transit will further detour buses during this part of the weekend’s festivities.

2 Brant:

Southbound buses operate on their regular routes to the Burlington GO Station and then proceed:

westward along Fairview Street;
southward along Maple Avenue;
eastward along Lakeshore Road;
and then northward along Elizabeth Street to the bus parking turnaround.

Northbound buses reverse this routing.

5 Francis

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Northshore Boulevard and Maple Avenue, then detour:

westward along Lakeshore Road; and then
northward along John Street to the Downtown Burlington Terminal.

Westbound buses reverse this routing.

3 Guelph:

Burlington Transit will extend the hours of service tonight, Friday, June 13 and and tomorrow night, Saturday, June 14 so that the last trip leaves the Downtown Terminal at midnight on both evenings.

10 Maple — New:

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to the Downtown Burlington Terminal then detour:

eastward through the bus parking turnaround;
southward along Elizabeth Street;
eastward along Lakeshore Road;
northward along Guelph Line to New Street,
resuming their regular route eastward along New.

Westbound buses reverse this routing.

Burlington Transit will also extend the hours of service tonight, Friday, June 13 tomorrow night, Saturday, June 14 so that the last trip leaves the Downtown Terminal at midnight on both evenings.

4 Pinedale:

Eastbound buses leave the Downtown Burlington Terminal through the bus parking lot to Elizabeth Street, then proceed:

southward along Elizabeth;
eastward along Lakeshore; and then
northward along Guelph Line to Prospect Street,
resuming their regular route eastward along Prospect.

Westbound buses reverse this routing.


Mississauga: See Port Credit


Oshawa

Fiesta Week Parade

From 12:30 until 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, the City of Oshawa will close several streets in downtown Oshawa to accommodate the 36th annual parade, kicking off a week-long celebration of the various cultures of Durham Region.

Durham Region Transit and GO Transit will detour buses during the event.

DRT

12 Adelaide:

Westbound buses operate along their regular route to Park Road North and Bond Street West, then detour:

westward along Bond;
southward along Stevenson Roads North and South; and then
eastward along Gibb Street to the Oshawa Centre.

Eastbound buses operate from the Oshawa Centre, then proceed:

northward along Gibbons Street; and then
westward along Adelaide Avenue West to Park Road North,
resuming their regular route westward along Adelaide.

6 Dean:

Southbound buses operate along their regular route to Centre Street and Richmond Street West, then detour:

eastward along Richmond;
southward along Mary Street North and South;
westward along Athol Street East;
southward along Celina Street; and then
westward along Olive Avenue to Simcoe Street South,
resuming their regular route southward along Simcoe.

11 Grandview:

Westbound buses operate along their regular route to Bond Street West and Park Road North, then detour:

westward along Bond;
southward along Stevenson Roads North and South; and then
eastward along Gibb Street to the Oshawa Centre.

Eastbound buses operate from the Oshawa Centre, then proceed:

northward along Gibbons Street;
eastward along Adelaide Street West;
southward along Centre Street North;
eastward along Richmond Streets West and East; and then
southward along Mary Street North to King Street East,
resuming their regular route southward along Mary Street South.

2 King

Westbound buses operate along their regular route.

Eastbound buses operate from the Oshawa Centre, then proceed: northward along Gibbons Street;
eastward along Adelaide Street West;
southward along Centre Street North;
eastward along Richmond Streets West and East; and then
southward along Mary Street North to King Street East,
resuming their regular route eastward along King.

10 Olive:

Westbound buses operate along their regular route to Albert Street and John Street East, then detour:

northward along Albert;
eastward along Athol Street East;
northward along Mary Street South and North;
westward along Bond Street East and West; and then
southward along Gibbons Street to the Oshawa Centre.

Eastbound buses operate from the Oshawa Centre, then proceed:

eastward along Gibb Street;
southward along Park Road South;
eastward along Tresane Street;
southward along Cubert Street;
eastward along Mill Street; and then
northward along Simcoe Street South to John Street East,
resuming their regular route eastward along John.

1 Simcoe

Southbound buses operate along their regular route to Centre Street and Richmond Street West, then detour:

eastward along Richmond Streets West and East;
southward along Mary Street North and South;
westward along Athol Street East;
southward along Celina Street; and then
westward along Olive Avenue to Simcoe Street South,
resuming their regular route southward along Simcoe.

09 Lakeshore East:

Westbound buses operate along their regular route.

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Stevenson Road South and King Street West, then detour:

northward along Stevenson Road North;
eastward along Adelaide Avenues West and East; and then
southward along Mary Street North to King Street East
resuming their regular route eastward along King.

94 Oshawa Highway 2:

Westbound buses operate along their regular route. Buses will serve the Oshawa Bus Terminal from an on-street stop during the diversion, instead of entering into the Terminal.

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to King Street West and Stevenson Road North, then detour:

southward along Stevenson to Bloor Street West,
resuming their regular route, westward along Bloor.


Port Credit:

Mississauga Waterfront Festival

The festival takes place tonight, Friday, June 13 from 5 to 11 p.m., tomorrow, Saturday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday, June 15 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Port Credit Memorial Park.

Waterfront Festival Shuttles:

Festival organizers will provide free shuttle bus services to and from the events. Stock Transportation will operate the shuttle buses tonight, Friday, June 13 from 5:15 p.m. until midnight, tomorrow, Saturday, June 14 from 1:15 p.m. until midnight and Sunday, June 15 from 11:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. The service operates every 20 minutes from and to the South Common Mall (Erin Mills Parkway and Burnhamthorpe Road) and every 30 minutes from and to the Erin Mills Town Centre and the Mississauga City Hall area on Duke of York Boulevard, north of City Centre Drive.


Richmond Hill

Heritage Village Day

The Region of York and the Town of Richmond Hill will close Yonge Street between Crosby Avenue and Major Mackenzie Drive tomorrow, Saturday, June 14 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., to accommodate the annual Heritage Village Day festival.

York Region Transit will detour buses during the event.

89A Trench:

Southbound buses operate along their regular route to Crosby and Pugsley Avenues, then detour:

westward along Crosby;
northward along Yonge Street;
westward along Benson Avenue; and then
southward along Hall Street to Mill Street,
resuming their regular route westward along Mill.

Northbound buses reverse this routing.

Viva Blue:

Southbound buses will operate along their regular route to Yonge Street and Elgin Mills Road, then detour:

westward along Elgin Mills;
southward along Newkirk Road; and then
eastward along Major Mackenzie Drive to Yonge,
resuming their regular route southward along Yonge.

Northbound buses will reverse this routing.

99 Yonge South:

Southbound buses operate along their regular route to Yonge Street and Crosby Avenue, then detour:

eastward along Crosby;
southward along Pugsley Avenue; and then
westward along Major Mackenzie Drive to Yonge Street,
resuming their regular route southward along Yonge.

Northbound buses reverse this routing.

Toronto: the Father’s Day Walk / Run for Prostate Cancer; the Highland Creek Heritage Festival; the Much Music Video Awards; the Rolling Rampage;and the Taste of Little Italy.


The Father’s Day Run / Walk for Prostate Cancer Research

The City of Toronto will close all or parts of Mill Street between Trinity and Cherry Streets, Cherry between Trinity and Lake Shore Boulevard East and between Lake Shore and Commissioners Street, Lake Shore, between the north and south branches of Cherry Street, and Commissioners between Cherry and Carlaw Avenue until 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 17, to accommodate participants in the run.

The TTC will divert buses during the event.

172 Cherry Street:

Buses will only operate between Union Station and the intersection of Front Street East and Parliament Street during the event. (Buses likely loop by travelling northward along Parliament Street and then through the King / Parliament Loop, before heading southward along Parliament to Front.) Passengers heading south along Cherry Street to Cherry Beach will have no transit service until the event ends.


Highland Creek Heritage Festival Parade

From 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., the City of Toronto will close Lawson Road west of Centennial Road, the Highland Creek Overpass and Old Kingston Road to accommodate the 23rd annual festival parade.

The TTC will detour transit services during the event.

38 Highland Creek:

Passengers should expect detours or delays.


Much Music Video Awards

From 5:30 until 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 14 and from 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 15 until 3 a.m. on Monday, June 16, the City of Toronto will close Queen Street West between Simcoe Street and Spadina Avenue to accomodate the awards event.

The TTC will divert transit service during the event.

301 Queen (overnight):
501 Queen:

Eastbound streetcars operate along their regular route to Queen Street West and Spadina Avenue, then detour:

southward along Spadina;
eastward along King Streets West and East; and then
northward along Church Street to Queen Street East,
resuming their regular route eastward along Queen.

Westbound streetcars will reverse the routing.

301 Queen (overnight) (shuttle bus):
501 Queen (shuttle bus):

Eastbound buses operate from Wolseley Loop on Bathurst Street, north of Queen Street West and proceed:

eastbound along Queen;
southbound along Spadina Avenue;
eastbound along Adelaide Street West;
northbound along Duncan Street;
eastbound along Queen Streets West and East;
northbound along Mutual; and then
eastward along Shuter Street to Jarvis Street.

Westbound buses will operate from Jarvis and Shuter Streets and proceed:

southward along Jarvis;
westward along Queen Streets East and West;
southbound along Simcoe Street;
westbound along Richmond Street West:
northbound along Peter Street and then
westbound along Queen to Bathurst Street.


The Rolling Rampage

The City will also close Queen’s Park Crescent, and Queen’s Park , between Bloor Street West and College Street on Saturday, June 15 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to accommodate participants in the 10K wheelchair race.

The TTC will detour buses during the event.

The Taste of Little Italy

The City of Toronto will close College Street between Bathurst and Shaw Streets from 7 p.m. this evening, Friday, June 13 at 7 p.m. until 1 a.m. on Monday, June 16 to accommodate the annual event.

The TTC will divert transit service during the event.

306 Carlton (overnight):
506 Carlton:

Eastbound streetcars will follow their regular route to College Street and Ossington Avenue, then detour:

southward along Ossington;
eastward along Dundas Street West; and then
northward along Bathurst Street to College,
resuming their regular route eastward along College.

Westbound cars will reverse this routing.

506 Carlton (shuttle bus):

Eastbound buses operate from Keele Station, then proceed:
southward along Keele Street and Parkside Drive; and then
eastward along Howard Park Avenue, Dundas Street West and College Street to Lansdowne Avenue.

Westbound buses operate from College Street and Lansdowne Avenue, then proceed:

southward along Lansdowne;
westward along Dundas Street West and Howard Park Avenue; and then
northward along Parkside Drive and Keele Street to Keele Station.


Uxbridge

One Hundred Years of Anne in Uxbridge

From 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 14 and from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, the Township of Uxbridge will close the intersection of Brock and Toronto Streets to accommodate this downtown Uxbridge event. (The event marks the centennial of the arrival of Anne of Green Gables author Lucy Maud Montgomery in nearby Leaskdale.)

GO Transit will detour buses while the intersection is closed.

71 Stouffville:

Southbound buses start their trips on King Street, west of Toronto Street North, then proceed:

westward along King;
southward along Railway Street and Victoria Drive; and then
eastward along Peel Street to Toronto Street South,
resuming their regular route southward along Toronto.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route to Toronto Street South and Peel Street, then detour:

westward along Peel;
northward along Victoria Drive and Railway Street;
eastward along Albert Street; and then
northward along Toronto Street North to King Street.
