YRT service changes start June 29



Starting Sunday, June 29, York Region Transit will reorganize routes and services for passengers travelling along the Rutherford Road / Carrville Road / 16th Avenue corridor and into Beaver Creek and Commerce Valley. The Rutherford / Carrville / 16th and Beaver Creek restructuring is the highlight of YRT’s June service change.


Specifically, YRT will: introduce new routes; extend current routes; revise current routes; cancel a current route; increase service on current routes; decrease service on a current route; decrease service on regular current routes for the summer only; cancel service to high schools for the summer only; and adjust the schedules of current routes.

Introduce new routes

244 Beaver Creek — Commerce Valley Local

Starting Monday, June 30, YRT will introduce this new Monday-to-Saturday shuttle service while restructuring services along the Rutherford Road / Carrville Road / 16th Avenue corridor. Buses operate every 20 minutes from about 6 a.m. until 6:40 p.m. Mondays to Fridays and from about 6 a.m. until 5:40 p.m. on Saturdays.

Buses operate along a clockwise route. Starting at 16th Avenue and Leslie Street, buses proceed:

eastward along 16th;
southward along Mural Street;
east- and southward along East Beaver Creek Road;
south- and westward along Commerce Valley Drive East;
west- and northward along Commerce Valley Drive West;
north- and eastward along West Beaver Creek Road;
northward along Granton Drive; and then
westward along 16th Avenue to Leslie.

210 Lunch Express

If you work in Beaver Creek or Commerce Valley, you’ll know that the Lunch Express is tecnically not a new route, but, starting Monday, June 30, it will become an official YRT route with a number.

YRT has worked with the Town of Richmond Hill, Smart Commute 404-7 and local restaurants for several years to offer this free, Friday-only service. Passengers can ask the driver for a lunch express transfer and receive discounts for lunch at many area restaurants.

Buses operate every 15 minutes from about 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Fridays. Starting at York Square, the buses operate on a counterclockwise route:

northward along East Beaver Creek Road;
westward along East and West Pearce Street;
southward along West Beaver Creek Road;
south- and eastward along Commerce Valley Drive East;
east- and northward along Commerce Valley Drive West; and then
northward along East Beaver Creek and into York Square.

Extend current routes

303 Cornell Express:

Starting Monday, June 30, YRT will extend the route further north- and westward along Bur Oak Avenue. Buses no longer serve stops along White’s Hill, Larkin, Fincham and 16th Avenues and Stone Mason, Raymerville and Snider Drives. Buses operating on the 301 Markham Express route continue to serve those streets.

During Monday-to-Friday morning rush hours, buses start their trips at McCowan Road and Bur Oak Avenue and proceed:

east- and southward along Bur Oak to White’s Hill Avenue,
resuming their current route southward along Bur Oak.

During Monday-to-Friday afternoon rush hours, buses operate along their regular route to Bur Oak and White’s Hill Avenues, then proceed:

north- and westward along Bur Oak to McCowan Road.

2 Milliken:

Starting Monday, June 30, eastbound Monday-to-Friday buses operate along a revised routing at Markham Road.

The buses proceed along their current route to Denison Street and Markham Road, then continue:

eastward along Denison; and then
south- and westward along Elson Street to Eastvale Drive,
resuming their current route southward along Eastvale.

YRT will also adjust the schedule of the route.

9 Ninth Line:

During Monday-to-Friday rush hours and early evenings, YRT will extend service to Ninth Line and Millard Street.

Southbound buses will begin their trips at Elm Road and Glad Park Avenue, then proceed:

northward along Glad Park;
eastward along Millard Street; and then
southward along Ninth Line (jogging westward along Main Street Stouffville between the northern and southern sections of Ninth Line) to Parkview Village,
resuming their current route westward into Parkview.

Northbound buses proceed along their current route to Parkview Village, then proceed:

westward out of Parkview;
northward along Ninth Line (jogging eastward along Main Street Stouffville between the southern and northern sections of Ninth Line); and then
westward along Elm Road to Glad Park.

Revise current routes

85 Rutherford — 16th Avenue:

YRT is restructuring the services along the Rutherford Road / Carrville Road / 16th Avenue corridor and into Beaver Creek and Commerce Valley.

Starting Sunday, June 29, YRT buses will continue to operate along three branches of the route, but YRT will alter the terminals and service levels of the branches. It will also adjust the schedules of buses operating on all three branches to improve the frequency of service and transfer connections along the entire corridor particularly at Vaughan Mills Terminal, Yonge Street and Carrville Road / 16th Avenue and Leslie Street and 16th Avenue.

Buses on the basic 85 branch operate seven days a week between Vaughan Mills Terminal and Markham — Stouffville Hospital.

Eastbound buses start their trips at Vaughan Mills, then proceed:
eastward along Rutherford and Carrville Roads and 16th Avenue;
southward along Ninth Line; and then
eastward along Church Street to the Markham — Stouffville Hospital.

Westbound buses start their trips at the Hospital, then proceed:
eastward along Church Street;
northward along Bur Oak Avenue; and then
westward along 16th Avenue and Carrville and Rutherford Roads to Vaughan Mills Terminal.

Buses operating on the 85A branch will replace the current 85 branch service along Rutherford Road west of Vaughan Mills.

On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, passengers can transfer between buses operating on the 85 and 85A branches at Vaughan Mills.

85A Rutherford — 16th Avenue:

YRT is restructuring the services along the Rutherford Road / Carrville Road / 16th Avenue corridor and into Beaver Creek and Commerce Valley.

Starting Sunday, June 29, YRT buses will continue to operate along three branches of the route, but YRT will alter the terminals and service levels of the branches. It will also adjust the schedules of buses operating on all three branches to improve the frequency of service and transfer connections along the entire corridor particularly at Vaughan Mills Terminal, Yonge Street and Carrville Road / 16th Avenue and Leslie Street and 16th Avenue.

Seven days a week, starting Sunday, June 29, buses operating on the 85A branch will replace the current 85 service along Rutherford Road west of Vaughan Mills. Buses operating on the 85A branch no longer loop at Bathurst Street along Bathurst, Shaw Boulevard and Ayr Road and no longer serve the Beaver Creek and Commerce Valley areas. Buses operating on the 85B branch and YRT’s new 244 Beaver Creek — Commerce Valley Local shuttle route and the TTC’s 25 Don Mills route will serve stops in Beaver Creek and Commerce Valley.

On Sundays and holidays, starting Sunday, June 29, eastbound buses operating on the 85A branch start their trips at the Al Palladini Community Centre near Rutherford Road and Islington Avenue, and proceed:

eastward along 16th Avenue to Vaughan Mills Terminal.

On Sundays and holidays, westbound buses reverse this route.

From Monday to Friday, starting Monday, June 30, eastbound buses start their trips at Rutherford Road and Napa Valley Avenue, then proceed:

north- and eastward along Napa Valley;
southward along Islington Avenue;
eastward along Rutherford Road;
through Vaughan Mills Terminal; and then
continuing eastward along Rutherford and Carrville Roads to Yonge Street.

From Monday to Friday, starting Monday, June 30, westbound buses start their trips at Yonge Street and Carrville Road, then proceed:

westward along Carrville and Rutherford Roads;
through Vaughan Mills Terminal; and then
westward along Rutherford to Napa Valley Avenue.

On Saturdays, starting Saturday, July 5, eastbound buses start their trips at Rutherford Road and Napa Valley Avenue, then proceed:

north- and eastward along Napa Valley;
southward along Islington Avenue; and then
eastward along Rutherford Road to Vaughan Mills Terminal.

On Saturdays, westbound buses start their trips at Vaughan Mills and proceed: westward along Rutherford Road to Napa Valley Avenue.

On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, passengers can transfer between buses operating on the 85 and 85A branches at Vaughan Mills.

85B Rutherford — 16th Avenue:

eastward along Davos Road and Ashberry Boulevard;
southward along Vellore Woods Boulevard;
westward along Hawkview Boulevard;
southward along Weston Road;
eastward along Rutherford;
through Vaughan Mills Terminal;
continuing eastward along Rutherford, Carrville Road and 16th Avenue;
southward along Mural Street;
east-, south- and westward along Leek Crescent;
southward along Mural;
east- and southward along East Beaver Creek Road;
westward along East Wilmot Street;
southward along Leslie Street;
eastward along East Pearce Street;
southward along East Beaver Creek;
south- and westward along Commerce Valley Drive South; and then
west- and northward along Commerce Valley Drive East to Highway 7.

During Monday-to-Friday rush hours, starting Monday, June 30, westbound buses operating on the 85B branch will start their trips at Highway 7 and West Beaver Creek Road, and proceed every 20 minutes:

north- and eastward along West Beaver Creek;
northward along Leslie Street;
westward along 16th Avenue, Carrville and Rutherford Roads;
through Vaughan Mills Terminal;
continuing westward along Rutherford; and then
northward along Fossil Hill Road to Alba Avenue.

Buses operating on YRT’s new 244 Beaver Creek — Commerce Valley Local shuttle bus route will serve stops in the Beaver Creek and Commerce Valley areas all day and evening, Monday to Saturday. Buses operating on the TTC’s 25 Don Mills route will serve the same area all day Monday to Friday.

224B Woodbine Avenue:

On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, starting Saturday, June 28, YRT will extend the route so that southbound buses start their trips one block further north at Woodbine Avenue and Stony Hill Boulevard, instead of Woodbine and Vine Cliff Boulevard, and proceed:

eastward along Stony Hill; and then
southward along Hazelton Avenue to Vine Cliff,
resuming their current route southward along Hazelton.

Northbound buses operate along their current route to Woodbine Avenue and Vine Cliff Boulevard, continuing northward along Woodbine one block to Stony Hill Boulevard, where they end their trips.

Friday, June 27 will be the last day that buses operate along route.


Increase service on current routes

88 Bathurst:

Starting Monday, June 30, YRT will start earlier Monday-to-Friday southbound service from Senaca College’s King Campus, with the first bus leaving the college at 6:12 a.m.

Decrease service on a current route

1 Highway 7

Starting Monday, June 30, YRT will reduce the frequency of service during Monday-to-Friday rush hours to every 15 to 20 minutes. The decrease results from more passengers using YRT’s Viva purple route.

Friday, June 27 will be the last day until September that YRT operates extra high school service on the route.

5 Clark:

From Monday to Friday, starting Monday, June 30, YRT will reduce the rush hour frequency of service to every 15 minutes until September.

90 Leslie South:

From Monday to Friday, starting Monday, June 30, all buses operating on the route will end their trips at Bathurst Street and Shaftesbury Avenue (West Elgin Community Centre) instead of travelling to Seneca College’s King City Campus until September.

YRT will also reduce services to Richmond Green High School.

Cancel services to high schools for the summer only

91 Bayview South:

With the end of the school year at Thornlea Secondary School on Friday, June 27, YRT will cancel until September the Monday-to-Friday southbound trip leaving Bayview Avenue and High Tech Road at 2:54 p.m., the Monday-to-Friday northbound trip leaving Steeles Avenue West and Henderson Avenue at 2:55 p.m. and the Monday-to-Friday northbound trip leaving Bayview Avenue and John Street at 3 p.m.

With the end of the school year at Father McGivney Catholic Academy on Friday, June 27, YRT will cancel until September the 2:47 p.m. eastbound Monday-to-Friday trip leaving McCowan Road and 14th Avenue. With the end of the school year at Markham District High School, YRT will cancel until September the 7:10 a.m. eastbound Monday-to-Friday trip leaving McCowan Road and 14th Avenue. Starting Monday, June 30, a bus operating on a westbound Monday-to-Friday trip will leave Markham Stouffville Hospital at 3 p.m. until September.

1 Highway 7:

Starting Monday, June 30, with the end of the school year at Markham District High School, all Monday-to-Friday eastbound Monday-to-Friday morning rush hour trips will operate along Highway 7. The bus operating on the westbound Monday-to-Friday trip that currently leaves Markham District High School at 3:05 p.m. will now leave Markham Stouffville Hospital at 3:20 p.m.

YRT will also decrease service on the entire route.

2 Milliken

Starting Monday, June 30, eastbound buses leave Finch GO Bus Terminal on new Monday-to-Friday trips at 5:50 a.m., 3:15 p.m. and 7 p.m. The bus that currently leaves Finch at 3:05 p.m. trip will leave five minutes earlier at 3 p.m. YRT will also adjust the Monday-to-Friday schedule to accommodate the detour that results from bridge construction along John Street between Bayview and Henderson Avenues.

YRT has also extended the route.

18 Bur Oak:

Starting Monday, June 30, YRT will help passengers wanting to transfer to or from buses operating on the TTC ‘s 129A McCowan North route. The westbound Monday-to-Friday bus that currently leaves Markham Stouffville Hospital at 8:45 a.m. will leave two minutes earlier at 8:43 a.m.
