Starting Monday, July 7, Oakville Transit will start to operate buses along a new route, increase its services along other routes and cancel community bus services.
Specifically, OT will: introduce a new route; cancel current routes; and increase service on current routes.
The changes affect these routes: 22 Upper Middle — Glen Abbey West; 24 South Common Mall; 32 Burloak North; 200 Northridge; Blue Community Bus; Green Community Bus; Red Community Bus; Yellow Community Bus.
Introduce a new route 32 Burloak North:
Starting Monday, July 7, Oakville Transit buses will start operating along this new, seven-day-a-week route between the Rio-Can Centre and Hopedale Mall.
South- and eastbound buses start their trips at Rio-Can and then proceed:
westward along Wyecroft Road;
southward along Burloak Drive; and then
eastward along Rebecca Street to Hopedale Mall.North- and westbound buses reverse this routing.
Buses leave Hopedale Mall every 30 minutes from 8:20 a.m. until 11: 20 p.m., Mondays to Saturdays. You can view the Monday-to-Friday schedule here. You can view the Saturday schedule here. Cancel current routes Blue Community Bus:
Green Community Bus:Tomorrow, Saturday, July 5 will be the last day that Oakville Transit operates buses along this Monday, Wednesday and Saturday route.
Red Community Bus:Yesterday, Thursday, July 3 was the last day that Oakville Transit operated buses along this Tuesday and Thursday route.
Yellow Community Bus:Today, Friday, July 4 is the last day that Oakville Transit is operating buses along this Friday-only route.
Tomorrow, Saturday, July 5 will be the last day that Oakville Transit operates buses along this Monday-to-Saturday route.
Oakville Transit has decided to cancel its community bus since the routes now duplicate regular, low-floor bus routes. The number of passengers using community bus service has steadily decreased during the last several years.
On the average, OT’s community buses carry three customers every hour while the service costs the Town of Oakville $267,000 per year. The Town will use the money that it saves by cancelling the community bus serivce to improve service on other routes.
OT already offers conventional accessible bus service to all the destinations that community buses currently serve. Now 80 per cent of all OT buses are low-floor buses and, by the end of this year, 90 per cent of the fleet will be low-floor. All buses that operate during off-peak hours and on weekends are low-floor buses.
OT first introduced community bus service in 1991 to fill a void in the transportation options available for seniors in Oakville because OT did not then have any low-floor buses in its transit fleet.
Increase service on current routes: 200 Northridge:
24 South Common Mall:Starting Monday, July 7, OT will increase the frequency of Monday-to-Friday rush hour service.
22 Upper Middle — Glen Abbey West:Starting Saturday, July 11, OT will increase the frequency of Saturday service.
Starting Saturday, July 11, OT will introduce Saturday service on this route linking Hopedale Mall, Bronte GO Station, the Halton Region Centre and the Glen Abbey West neighbourhood. Buses will leave Bronte GO Station every hour from 6:40 a.m. until 7:40 p.m.

Oakville Transit has quietly increased its services throughout 2008. It has:
- extended the 13 West Oak Trails route so that buses serve the area west of Bronte Road. It also improved the frequency of service so that buses operate every 30 minutes instead of every 60 minutes.
- increased service on the 22 Upper Middle — Glen Abbey West route so that buses operate all day Monday to Friday and serve the Halton Regional Centre.
- operated one more bus during Monday-to-Friday morning rush hours on the 24 South Common Mall route.
- started to operate buses on the 28 Glen Abbey North route Monday-to-Saturday evenings and during the daytime Sundays and holidays.
- started to offer Care-A-Van (accessible) service to residents Monday-to-Saturday evenings and during the daytime Sundays and holidays.
- increased late-night bus service from Oakville GO Station.
Later this year, OT will increase Saturday service on the 13 West Oak Trails route to every 30 minutes from every 60 minutes and offer all-day Monday-to-Friday service on the 200 Northridge route.
