DRT detours buses around two construction projects



Durham Region Transit will reroute bus service in Bowmanville (Clarington) and Whitby while area municipalities reconstruct roadways.


The construction affects these routes: DRT Centre3 Garden, 318 Otter Creek / Garden / Whitby Shores; DRT East502 Liberty.


Bowmanville:

The Municipality of Clarington will continue its project to rebuild 3rd Concession Road between Mearns Avenue and Liberty Street North, installing sidewalks, concrete curbs and gutters and storm sewers along the roadway.

DRT will divert bus service during the construction.

DRT East

502 Liberty:

Seven days a week, after Monday, June 30, southbound buses start their trips at Freeland Avenue and Rickaby Street, then proceed:

southward along Rickaby;
westward along Maxwell Court;
northward along Jollow Drive; and then
westward along Freeland to Liberty Street North,
resuming their regular route southward along Liberty.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route to Liberty Street North and Freeland Avenue, then detour:

westward along Freeland to Rickaby Street.

DRT previously diverted buses off 3rd Concession Road during an earlier phase of the project, starting on April 21.


Whitby

The Town of Whitby will start a project to reconstruct and “urbanize” Garden Street between Dundas Street East and Burns Street.

DRT will detour bus service during the construction.

DRT Centre

3 Garden:

Mondays to Fridays during the daytime, starting on Monday, July 7, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Garden Street and Dundas Street East, then detour:

westward along Dundas;
southward along Athol Street to Burns Street,
resuming their regular route westward along Burns.

318 Otter Creek / Garden / Whitby Shores:

Monday-to-Friday evenings and all day on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, starting Monday, July 7, buses operate along their regular route to Garden Street and Dundas Street East, then detour:

westward along Dundas;
southward along Athol Street to Burns Street,
resuming their regular route westward along Burns.

During an earlier phase of this project, the Town reconstructed and urbanized Burns Street between Pringle Creek and St. Lawrence Street. DRT previously diverted buses off Burns Street during this phase of the project, starting on May 26.
