Coming soon: the end of the line for CN Rail crews on GO trains

CN Rail crews working on GO Transit’s trains are about to reach the end of the line on the suburban commuter trains.

Yesterday’s Toronto Star reports that many members of the crews that CN assigned to GO service signed off on Friday and many Bombardier staff signed on to serve passengers on the trains yesterday.

In November, Bombardier and GO signed a five-year deal, worth $23.9 million in which Bombardier would provide crew members — including conductors and engineers on six of the seven GO lines.

GO has gradually phased in Bombardier staff since June 2, and, as of yesterday, Bombardier staff had replaced CN crews on half of the 169 daily trains that GO operates. By February, Bombardier expects to have hired 175 staff members to serve passengers on all GO trains that travel along CN Rail tracks. (GO’s Milton line is the single exception because the trains on that line travel along CP tracks.)
