Weekend events affect transit,
August 7, 8, 9, 10



Special events in Brampton, Georgetown, Hamilton, Oakville, Oshawa and Toronto will affect transit services this weekend.


The events affect these routes:

The Friday, August 8 events are: Downtown Oakville Jazz Festival; Krinos Taste of the Danforth; Play on! Oshawa.

The Saturday, August 9 events are: Brampton Rose — South Asian Heritage Festival; Downtown Brampton Farmers Market; Downtown Oakville Jazz Festival; Georgetown Farmers Market; Krinos Taste of the Danforth; Play on! Oshawa.

The Sunday, August 10 events are: Krinos Taste of the Danforth; Ontario Cycling Association — Brampton Cycling Club Criterium; Play on! Oshawa.


Brampton

Brampton events are: Brampton Rose — South Asian Heritage Festival (August 9); Downtown Brampton Farmers Market (August 9); Ontario Cycling Association — Brampton Cycling Club Criterium.


Brampton Rose — South Asian Heritage Festival

Downtown Brampton Farmers Market

The City of Brampton will close Main Street between John Street and Nelson Street West / Theatre Lane every Saturday morning until October 11 to accommodate the market and, this Saturday only, continue to close Main Street between Main and Nelson Streets until 11 p.m. to accommodate the South Asian Fesival.

Brampton Transit is detouring bus service during the market and festival.

2 Main:

From 6 a.m. until 11 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Main Street North and Nelson Street West, then detour:

westward along Nelson;
southward along George Streets North and South; and then
eastward along Wellington Street West to Main,
resuming their regular route southbound along Main.

Northbound buses reverse this routing.

Brampton Rose — South Asian Heritage Festival Shuttles

From 4 p.m. until midnight on Saturday, August 9, Brampton Transit will operate a free shuttle bus service between Shoppers World Parking Lot #4 and the Downtown Brampton Transit Terminal.


Ontario Cycling AssociationBrampton Cycling Club Criterium

On Sunday, the City of Brampton will close Hereford Drive between Ironbridge and Edenbridge Drives to accommodate the race.

Brampton Transit is detouring bus service during the event:

51 Steeles West

From 7:45 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, eastbound buses start their trips at Mississauga Road and Steeles Avenue West and then proceed along their regular route eastward along Steeles.

Westbound buses operate along their regular routes to Mississauga Road and Hereford Drive, then detour:

northward along Mississauga to Steeles Avenue West,
where the buses end their trips.


Georgetown

Georgetown Farmers Market

The Town of Halton Hills will close part of Main Street South Georgetown every Saturday morning until October 11 to accommodate the Central Georgetown Business Improvement Area’s weekly market.

GO Transit is detouring bus service during the market.

31 Georgetown:

From 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, buses travelling to and from Guelph remain on Highway 7 instead of travelling along Main Street. They do not serve the Georgetown agency during the market hours.

Buses that start or end their trips at Georgetown travel to and from the Georgetown GO Station and do not travel to downtown Georgetown.

You can ride any HSR bus for free to tonight’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats game against the Toronto Argonauts at 7 p.m. — if you hold a valid ticket to the game. With the HSR’s Ticket to Ride program, you can ride free of fare to Ivor Wynne Stadium for as long as three hours before game time and free of fare from the stadium until the end of service tonight.

Tiger-Cats Express

Four free shuttles will also speedily transport ticket-holders from four terminals across the city to the stadium and back again after the game is over. The shuttles operate from Limeridge Mall, Eastgate Square, University Plaza and downtown Hamilton. You can read the schedule for tonight’s shuttle service here. (.pdf)

You can also ride D.A.R.T.S (Disabled and Aged Regional Transportation System) buses free if you hold a valid ticket to the game.

Oakville

Downtown Oakville Jazz Festival

On Friday and Saturday, the Downtown Oakville Business Improvement Area will host the annual music event.

To help jazz buffs take advantage of free parking at the Oakville GO Station, instead of parking downtown with limited space, Oakville Transit will operate frequent express shuttle bus service on Friday and Saturday evenings between the GO Station and OT’s downtown terminal. Buses leave Oakville GO Station every 15 minutes, starting at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, August 8 and Saturday, August 9. They leave the bus terminal at Church and Dunn Streets every fifteen minutes until 12:30 a.m.


Oshawa

Play on! Oshawa

The City of Oshawa will close King Streets East and West between Centre and Mary Streets this weekend to accommodate CBC Sports Hockey Night in Canada’s street hockey tournament.

Durham Region Transit and GO Transit will detour bus service during the event.

405 Central Park

Southbound buses operate along their regular route.

From about 8:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, northbound buses operate along their regular route to King Street West and Centre Street, then detour:

southward along Centre Street South;
eastward along John Streets West and East;
northward along Albert Street;
eastward along Athol Street Street East; and then
northward along Mary Street South to King Street East,
resuming their regular route eastward along King.

(DRT buses do not operate along the 405 Central Park route on Friday evenings or Sundays.)

411 Grandview

Westbound buses operate along their regular route.

From 7 p.m. on Friday, August 8 until 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, eastbound buses will operate along their regular routes to King Street West and Centre Street, then detour:

southward along Centre Street South;
eastward along John Streets West and East;
northward along Albert Street; and then
eastward along Athol Street East to Mary Street South;
resuming their regular route eastward along Athol.

402 King

Westbound buses operate along their regular route.

From 7 p.m. on Friday, August 8 until 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to King Street West and Centre Street, then detour:

southward along Centre Street South;
eastward along John Streets West and East;
northward along Albert Street;
eastward along Athol Street; and then
northward along Mary Street South to King Street East,
resuming their regular route eastward along King.

GO Transit

09 Lakeshore East

Westbound buses operate along their regular route.

From 7 p.m. on Friday, August 8 until 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, eastbound buses (heading to Newcastle) operate along their regular route to King Street West and Centre Street, then detour:

southward along Centre Street South;
eastward along John Streets West and East;
northward along Albert Street;
eastward along Bruce Street; and then
northward along Charles Street to King Street East,
resuming their regular route eastward along King.


Toronto

Krinos Taste of the Danforth

The City of Toronto will close Danforth Avenue between Broadview and Jones Avenues — including the entire intersection of Pape and Danforth Avenues — from Friday morning until Sunday evening to accommodate the 15th annual Greek festival.

The TTC will divert bus service during the event.

300 Bloor — Danforth (overnight)

From 2 a.m. on Saturday, August 9 until 9 a.m. on Sunday, August 10, westbound buses operate along their regular route to Danforth and Donlands Avenues, then detour:

northward along Donlands;
westward along Mortimer Avenue; and then
southward along Broadview Avenue to Danforth,
resuming their regular route westward along Danforth Avenue.

Eastbound buses reverse this routing.

303 Don Mills (overnight)

From 2 a.m. on Saturday, August 9 until 5 a.m. on Sunday, August 10, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Pape and Mortimer Avenues, then detour:

westward along Mortimer; and then
southward along Broadview Avenue to Danforth Avenue,
resuming their regular route southward along Broadview.

Northbound buses reverse this routing.

72 Pape

From 6 p.m. on Friday, August 8 until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, southbound buses start their trips at Donlands Station (instead of Pape Station), then proceed:

southward along Donlands Avenue;
westward along Danforth Avenue;
southward along Jones Avenue; and then
westward along Gerrard Street East to Carlaw Avenue,
resuming their regular route southward along Carlaw.

Northbound buses will reverse this routing.
