Weekend events affect transit,
August 14, 15, 16, 17



Special events in Bowmanville (Clarington), Bradford, Brampton, Courtice (Clarington), Dundas (Hamilton), Georgetown (Halton Hills), Markham, Oshawa and Toronto will affect transit services this weekend.


The events affect these routes:

The Thursday, August 14 event is: Dundas Cactus Festival Parade.

The Friday, August 15 events are: Canadian National Exhibition; Dundas Cactus Festival; Moonlight Madness.

The Saturday, August 16 events are: Autofest Soap Box Derby; Canadian National Exhibition; Carrot Fest; Downtown Brampton Farmers Market; Dundas Cactus Festival; Georgetown Farmers Market; Moonlight Madness.

The Sunday, August 17 events are: Canadian National Exhibition; Kids of Steel — Courtice Triathalon; Markham Jazz Festival.


Bowmanville

Moonlight Madness

The Municipality of Clarington will close King Street East between Scugog and George Streets on Friday afternoon and evening to accommodate the Downtown Bowmanville Business Improvment Area’s annual event.

GO Transit will likely divert buses on the 09 Lakeshore East service during the event.

09 Lakeshore East

From 4 p.m. on Friday, August 15 until 12:30 a.m. on Saturday August 16, westbound buses operate on their regular route to King Street and Ontario Street, then detour:

southward along Ontario Street South;
westward along Queen Street; and then
northward along Scugog Street South to King,
resuming their regular route westward along King Street West.

Eastbound buses reverse this routing.

(GO has not announced detours, but used this routing last year to detour the buses during this event.)

The Autofest Soap Box Derby in Oshawa and the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto will also affect GO train and bus service on the 09 Lakeshore East route this weekend.


Bradford

Carrot Fest

The Town of Bradford — West Gwillimbury will close Holland Streets East and West between Church and Nelson Streets all day on Saturday, August 16 to accommodate Carrot Fest.

GO Transit will divert bus service during the event.

65 Barrie

Southbound buses will operate along their regular route to Barrie Street and Britannia Avenue, then detour:

northeastward along Britannia;
eastward along Jay Street; and then
southward along Disette Street to Bridge Street,
resuming their regular route southward along Bridge.

Northbound buses will reverse this routing.


Brampton

Downtown Brampton Farmers Market

The City of Brampton will close Main Street between John Street and Nelson Street West / Theatre Lane every Saturday morning until October 11 to accommodate the market.

Brampton Transit is detouring bus service during the market.

2 Main

From 6 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Main Street North and Nelson Street West, then detour:

westward along Nelson;
southward along George Streets North and South; and then
eastward along Wellington Street West to Main,
resuming their regular route southbound along Main.

Northbound buses reverse this routing.


Clarington: See Bowmanville and Courtice.


Courtice

Kids of SteelCourtice Triathlon

The Municipality of Clarington will close Nash Road between Trulls and Courtice Roads and Courtice Road between Nash Road and Durham Region Highway 2 / King Street on Sunday morning to accommodate the various races.

Durham Region Transit will detour bus service during the event.

402 King:

From 9 until 11:30 a.m., on Sunday, August 17, westbound buses will start their trips at Trulls Road and Durham Region Highway 2 / King Street, then proceed along their regular route.

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Trulls and Nash Roads, then detour:

southward along Trulls to Durham Region Highway 2 / King Street, where the buses end their trips.

DRT will also detour buses on the 402 King route during the Autofest Soap Box Derby in Oshawa.


Dundas

Dundas Cactus Festival

The City of Hamilton will close King Streets East and West from York Road to Market Street and other streets in central Dundas on Thursday evening to accommodate the festival parade. It will also close King Street West from Cross Street to Market Street on Friday evening, Saturday daytime and evening and Sunday daytime to accommodate the festival itself.

The Hamilton Street Railway will detour bus services during the event.

5 Delaware

From 6 until 10 p.m. tonight, Thursday, August 15, buses operate along their regular route to King and Napier Streets, then detour:

southward along Napier Street South;
eastward along Hatt Street;
northward along York Road; and then
eastward along Baldwin Street to West Street,
resuming their regular route southward along West.

From 5 p.m. on Friday, August 15 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, buses operate along their regular route to King Street West and Market Street, then detour:

southward along Market Street South;
eastward along Hatt Street; and then
northward along York Road to King Street East / Cootes Drive,
resuming their regular route eastward along Cootes.

52 Dundas

From 6 until 10 p.m. tonight, Thursday, August 15, buses operate along their regular route to West and Baldwin Streets, then detour:

westward along Baldwin;
southward along York Road; and then
westward along Hatt Street to Wellington Street South,
resuming their regular route southward along Wellington.

From 5 p.m. on Friday, August 15 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, buses operate along their regular route to King Street East and York Road, then detour:

northward along York;
westward along Park Streets East and West; and then
southward Market Street North to King Street West,
resuming their regular route westward along King.


Georgetown

Georgetown Farmers Market

The Town of Halton Hills will close part of Main Street South Georgetown every Saturday morning until October 11 to accommodate the Central Georgetown Business Improvement Area’s weekly market.

GO Transit is detouring bus service during the market.

31 Georgetown:

From 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, buses travelling to and from Guelph remain on Highway 7 instead of travelling along Main Street. They do not serve the Georgetown agency during the market hours.

Buses that start or end their trips at Georgetown travel to and from the Georgetown GO Station and do not travel to downtown Georgetown.

Markham

Markham Jazz Festival

On Sunday, the Town of Markham will close Main Street between Highway 7 and Parkway Avenue to accommodate the 10th annual festival.

The TTC and YRT are diverting bus services during the event.

From 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Main Street and Parkway Avenue, then detour:

eastward along Parkway;
southward along Wooten Way; and then
westward along Highway 7,
resuming their regular route southward along Main.

Northbound buses will reverse this routing.

York Region Transit

1 Highway 7

Westbound buses operate along their regular route.

From 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Highway 7 and Main Street, then detour:

eastward along Highway 7 and then;
northward along Wooten Way to Church Street,
resuming their regular route eastward along Church.


Oshawa

Autofest Soap Box Derby

The City of Oshawa will close Bond Street West from Centre Street to Arena Drive on Saturday to accommodate the 8th annual derby. The derby is an early event for next weekend’s Autofest at Lakeview Park in Oshawa.

Durham Region Transit and GO Transit will detour bus service during the event.

402 King

From 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, westbound buses operate along their regular route to Bond and Simcoe Streets, then detour:

northbound along Simcoe Street North;
westbound along Adelaide Avenue West; and then
southward along Arena Street to Bond Street West,
resuming their regular route westward along Bond.

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route.

The Kids of Steel — Courtice Triathlon will also affect service on the 402 King route this weekend.

GO Transit

09 Lakeshore East

From 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, westbound buses operate along their regular routes to a temporary stop at Bond Street East and Prince Street, then detour:

westward along Bond;
southward along Centre Streets North and South;
westward along John Street West; and then
northward along Park Roads South and North to Bond Street West,
resuming their regular route westward along Bond.

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to King Street West and Park Road, then proceed:

southward along Park Road South;
eastward along John Street West; and then
northward along Simcoe Street South to King,
resuming their regular route eastward along King Street East.

The Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto and the Moonlight Madness event in Bowmanville will also affect GO bus and trains operating on the 09 Lakeshore East route this weekend.

94 Oshawa Highway 2

From 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, westbound buses start their trips from a temporary stop on Bond Street East at Prince Street, then proceed:

westward along Bond;
southward along Centre Streets North and South;
westward along John Street West; and then
northward along Park Roads South and North to Bond Street West,
resuming their regular route westward along Bond.

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to King Street West and Park Road, then proceed:

southward along Park Road South;
eastward along John Street West;
northward along Simcoe Streets South and North; and then
westward along Bond Street West to a temporary stop at Prince Street, where the buses end their trips.


Toronto

Canadian National Exhibition

The “Ex” starts its 129th year on Friday, August 15 and continues until Labour Day, Monday, September 1.

GO Transit and the TTC have increased service to handle the crowds heading to the “Ex”.

GO will add extra service to both lines, with more trains stopping at the Exhibition Station. See Transit Toronto’s August 8 post for details.

The Autofest Soap Box Derby in Oshawa and the Moonlight Madness event in Bowmanville will also affect buses operating on the 09 Lakeshore East route this weekend.

TTC

511 Bathurst

From Friday, August 15 until Monday, September 1, the TTC has increased the frequency of service and will revise its fare collection procedures at Exhibition East Loop during the CNE. See Transit Toronto’s August 8 post for details.

29 Dufferin

From Friday, August 15 until Monday, September 1, the TTC has increased the frequency of service and will revise its fare collection procedures at Dufferin Gate Loop during the CNE. All buses will end their trips at Dufferin Gate and will not operate along the branches through Exhibition Place until the CNE is over. See Transit Toronto’s August 8 post for details.

329 Dufferin (overnight)

From Saturday, August 16 until Tuesday, September 2, buses will operate along a revised route during the CNE. See Transit Toronto’s August 8 post for details.

193 Exhibition Rocket

From Friday, August 15 until Monday, September 1, the TTC will operate this non-stop express route between Dundas West Station and the Dufferin Gate Loop and will revise its fare collection procedures at Dufferin Gate Loop during the CNE. See Transit Toronto’s August 8 post for details.

509 Harbourfront

From Friday, August 15 until Monday, September 1, the TTC has increased the frequency of service and will revise its fare collection procedures at Exhibition East Loop during the CNE. See Transit Toronto’s August 8 post for details.
