HSR revises service, August 31



The Hamilton Street Railway will introduce service on two new routes, offer passengers free rides on those new routes, revise two current routes and make other changes to its routes and service, starting Sunday, August 31.


Specificially, the HSR will: introduce new routes; revise current routes; increase service on current routes; resume services to colleges and universities; cancel seasonal routes; and adjust the schedules of current routes.


The changes affect these routes: 3 Cannon; 4 Bayfront; 6 Aberdeen; 7 Locke; 8 York; 10 Beeline Express; 11 Parkdale; 18 Waterdown; 21 Upper Kenilworth; 22 Upper Ottawa; 23 Upper Gage; 24 Upper Sherman; 27 Upper James; 33 Sanatorium; 34 Upper Paradise; 35 College; 41 Mohawk; 44 Rymal; 51 University; 52A Dundas Local; 56 Confederation Park; 99 Waterfront Shuttle; Redeemer College University Shuttle.


Introduce new routes

44 Rymal

Starting Tuesday, September 2, the HSR will introduce Monday-to-Friday rush-hour crosstown bus service along Rymal Roads East and West between Pritchard and Glancaster Roads.

Westbound buses start their trips at Anchor and Bigwin Roads, then proceed:

southward along Anchor;
eastward along Harlowe Road;
southward along Pritchard Road;
westward along Rymal Roads East and West; and then
southward along Glancaster Road to the Glancaster Loop
(Hamilton District Christian High School),
where the buses end their trips.

Eastbound buses start their trips at Glancaster Loop, then proceed:

northward along Glancaster Road;
eastward along Rymal Roads West and East;
northward along Pritchard Road;
westward along Stone Church Road East; and then
southward along Anchor Road to Bigwin,
where the buses end their trips.

Westbound buses leave Anchor and Bigwin about every 30 minutes Mondays to Fridays from 6:23 until 9:21 a.m. and from 3:04 until 6:04 p.m.

Eastbound buses leave Glancaster Loop about every 30 minutes Mondays to Fridays from 6:25 until 9:25 a.m. and from 2:36 until 6:16 p.m.

18 Waterdown

Starting Tuesday, September 2, the HSR will introduce Monday-to-Friday rush-hour bus service between the former village of Waterdown and Aldershot GO Station.

Southbound buses start their trips at Evans Road and Parkside Drive, then proceed:

southward along Evans;
westward along Dundas Street (Highway 5); and then
southward along Mill Street South / Waterdown Road
to Aldershot GO Station, where the buses end their trips.

Northbound buses start their trips at Aldershot GO Station, then proceed:

northward along Waterdown Road / Mill Street South;
westward along Dundas Street;
northward along Highway 6; and then
eastward along Parkside Drive to Evans Road,
where the buses end their trips.

Southbound buses leave Parkside and Evans about every 30 minutes from 5:38 until 8:29 a.m. and from 2:44 until 6:58 p.m.

Northbound buses leave Aldershot GO Station about every 30 minutes from 5:18 until 8:09 a.m. and from 2:51 until 6:38 p.m.

Waterdown passengers can get a free HSR transfer when they pay their fare and connect at Aldershot GO Station with buses operating on Burlington Transit’s 1 Fairview — Plains route to travel westward to downtown Hamilton or eastward to Burlington.

Revise current routes

10 Beeline Express

As the first phase of a long-term plan to eliminate buses traveling through the McMaster University campus, the HSR will revise the route so that buses no longer travel along King Street West, west of Paradise Road, Sterling Street or University Avenue.

Starting Tuesday, September 2, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Main Street West and Emerson Avenue, then proceed:

eastward along Main to Longwood Road South,
resuming their regular route eastward along Main.

Westbound buses operate along their regular route to King Street West and Paradise Road, then proceed:

southward along Paradise Road; and then
westward along Main Street West to Emerson Avenue,
resuming their regular route westward along Main.

Eastbound buses operating on the 10A branch will start their trips at the McMaster University Health Sciences Building, then travel along the main 10 Beeline route eastward along Main Street West.

Westbound buses operating on the 10A branch will operate along the main 10 Beeline Express route to Main Street West and Emerson Avenue, then end their trips at the McMaster University Health Sciences Building.

Passengers travelling eastward from McMaster University can board buses at the Health Sciences Building or on the south side of Main Street West at Emerson Avenue.

Eastbound buses on the main route now stop at the southwest corner of Main and Emerson and the southeast corner of Main and Longwood. Eastbound buses on the 10A branch now stop at the Health Sciences Building and Main and Longwood.

Westbound buses on the main route now stop at the north-east corner of Main and Longwood and on the north side of Main, west of University Avenue, opposite Emerson. Westbound buses operating on the 10A branch now stop at Main and Longwood and the Health Sciences Building.

HSR buses operating on the 5 Delaware, 1 King, 51 University and 5C West Hamilton routes continue to serve stops along King Street West, west of Paradise Road, Sterling Street and University Avenue.

11 Parkdale

Starting Sunday, August 31, buses will operate in a circular loop around Paramount and Winterberry Drives, instead of two-way service along Paramount and Winterberry south of Mud Street.

Northbound buses start their trips at Valley Park loop, then proceed:

north-, west- and southward along Paramount, resuming their current route westward along Mud.

Southbound buses continue to operate along their current route to Valley Park.

6 Aberdeen

Starting Tuesday, September 2, the HSR resumes full service on the route. It reduced the service in June because fewer passengers ride the route during the summer.

4 Bayfront

3 Cannon

Starting Tuesday, September 2, the HSR resumes full service on the route. It reduced the service in June because fewer passengers ride the route during the summer.

Starting Tuesday, September 2, the HSR resumes full service on the route. It reduced the service in June because fewer passengers ride the route during the summer. It will also adjust the schedule.

23 Upper Gage

Starting Tuesday, September 2, the HSR resumes full service on the routes. It reduced the service in June because fewer passengers ride the routes during the summer.

27 Upper James

Starting Tuesday, September 2, the HSR resumes full service on the route. It reduced the service in June because fewer passengers ride the route during the summer. It will also adjust the schedule.

21 Upper Kenilworth
22 Upper Ottawa

Starting Tuesday, September 2, the HSR resumes full service on the routes. It reduced the service in June because fewer passengers ride the routes during the summer.

34 Upper Paradise

Starting Tuesday, September 2, the HSR resumes full service on the route. It reduced the service in June because fewer passengers ride the route during the summer. It will also adjust the schedule.

24 Upper Sherman
8 York

Starting Tuesday, September 2, the HSR resumes full service on the routes. It reduced the service in June because fewer passengers ride the routes during the summer.


Resume services to colleges and universities

51 University

Starting Tuesday, September 2, the HSR will resume service on the route between the Hamilton GO Centre and West Hamilton Loop, passing through McMaster University.

Buses operate about every 10 to 15 minutes from about 7 a.m. until 10 p.m., Mondays to Fridays and every 30 minutes from about 11:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. Saturdays.

Redeemer College University Shuttle

Starting Tuesday, September 2, the HSR will again offer shuttle service between the Meadowlands and Glancaster Loops for students at Redeemer College University. Students pay an annual fee that entitles them to free transit service on all HSR routes, if they show valid University identification.

Labour Day, Monday, September 1 will be the last day this year that the HSR operates buses along these routes to the waterfront.


Adjust the schedules of current routes

4 Bayfront

Starting Sunday, August 27, the HSR will make minor adjustments to the schedule. It will also increase service along the route.

35 College

Starting Sunday, August 27, the HSR will make minor adjustments to the schedule. It will also increase service along the route.

52A Dundas Local

Starting Tuesday, September 2, the HSR will make minor adjustments to the schedule.

27 Upper James

Starting Sunday, August 27, the HSR will make minor adjustments to the schedule. It will also increase service along the route.

34 Upper Paradise

Starting Sunday, August 27, the HSR will make minor adjustments to the schedule. It will also increase service along the route.
