Guelph Transit revises services, September 2



Note: Guelph Transit information about its service changes and this post are still “under construction”. Transit Toronto will update the post as more information becomes available.


University of Guelph students pay for unlimited travel on public transit as part of their tuition fees, so Guelph Transit will markedly increase its services to the University and make other changes, starting Tuesday, September 2.


Specifically, Guelph Transit will: introduce new routes; revise current routes; cancel routes; decrease service; resume service to the university; resume service to high schools.


The changes affect these routes: 50 Stone Road Express; 53 University Express; 55 University / College; 56 Rickson Express; 57 Harvard Express; 58 Scottsdale Express; 58 Edinburgh Express; 59 University / Gordon; 70A Perimeter; 70B Perimeter; Downtown Shuttle; Harts Lane High School Special; John F. Ross High School Special; Lourdes High School Special; North London — Elizabeth Loop; Scottsdale — Kortright Loop; West Hanlon Loop.


Introduce new routes

50 Stone Road Express

Starting Tuesday, September 2, Guelph Transit will operate buses along this new route every 20 minutes, Mondays to Fridays from about 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., linking the University Centre with Stone Road Mall.

Eastbound buses start their trips at Stone Road West and Scottsdale Drive (Stone Road Mall), then proceed:

northward along Scottsdale;
eastward along Wilsonview Drive;
southward along Edinburgh Road South;
eastward along Stone Roads West and East; and then
northward into the University Centre,
ending their trips.

Westbound buses start their trips at the University Centre, then proceed:

westward along Stone Roads East and West to Scottsdale Drive,
ending their trips.

58 Edinburgh Express

Starting Tuesday, September 2, Guelph Transit will operate buses along this new route every 20 minutes, Mondays to Fridays from about 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., linking the University Centre with the Edinburgh / Kortright area. Buses on the new route will replace the former 58 Scottsdale Express service.

Eastbound buses start their trips at Edinburgh Road South and Kortright Road South, and proceed:

eastward along Kortright;
northward along Gordon Street; and then
eastward along Stone Road East to the University Centre,
ending their trips.

Westbound buses start their trips at the University Centre, and proceed:

westward along Stone Roads East and West; and then
southward along Edinburgh Road South to Kortright Road West,
ending their trips.

Guelph Transit buses operating on the 57 Harvard Express and 52 University — Kortright routes continue to serve areas that buses operating on the former 58 Scottsdale Express route served and that buses on the new 58 Edinburgh Express route do not.

Buses on both routes serve stops along Ironwood Road between Scottsdale Drive and Edinburgh Road South and along Scottsdale Drive between Stone Road West and Ironwood Road.

Buses on the 52 University — Kortright route also serve stops along Ironwood between Scottsdale and Kortright Road West.

Revise current routes

70A Perimeter

Starting Tuesday, September 2, buses operate along their current route to York Road and Elizabeth Street, then proceed:

westward along York; and then
northward along Victoria Road to Elizabeth,
resuming their current route northward along Victoria.

(Buses no longer operate along Elizabeth Street.)

70B Perimeter

Starting Tuesday, September 2, buses operate along their current route to Victoria Road and Elizabeth Street, then proceed:

southward along Victoria; and then
westward along York Road,
resuming their regular route westward along York.

(Buses no longer operate along Elizabeth Street.)


Decrease service

56 Rickson Express

Starting Tuesday, September 2, Guelph Transit will resume service on the route, but decrease the hours of service. Buses will operate on just three Monday-to-Friday trips from the University Centre at 8, 8:20 and 8:40 a.m.

Cancel routes

58 Scottsdale Express

Guelph Transit will not operate buses on this route this semester. Buses operating on the new 58 Edinburgh Express route will serve most stops along the former route. Buses on the 57 Harvard Express and 52 University — Kortright routes will also serve stops along other parts of the former route.

53 University Express

Guelph Transit will not operate buses along the route this semester. Buses operating on the 51 Gordon route serve all stops along the former route.

59 University / Gordon

Guelph Transit will not operate buses along the route this semester. Buses operating on the 51 Gordon or 54 Arkell routes serve most stops along the former route.


Resume service to the university

Downtown Shuttle

Starting Friday, September 5, Guelph Transit will resume this late-night (early-morning) service between downtown Guelph and the University Centre.

Southbound buses start their trips at City Hall on Carden Street, leaving every five minutes from 12:15 until 3:45 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. They proceed:

eastward along Carden;
southward along Wyndham Streets North and South;
westward along Wellington Street East;
southward along Gordon Street;
westward along College Avenue West;
southward along East Ring Road; and then
eastward along South Ring Road to the University Centre,
ending their trips.

Northbound buses start their trips at the University Centre, late Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, then proceed:

eastward along South Ring Road;
northward along Gordon and Norfolk Streets; and then
westward along Carden Street to City Hall,
ending their trips.

58 Edinburgh Express

Starting Tuesday, September 2, Guelph Transit will introduce this new route, replacing the former 58 Scottsdale Express.

57 Harvard Express

Starting Tuesday, September 2, Guelph Transit will resume service on the route. Buses will operate every 20 minutes, Mondays to Fridays from about 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.

North London — Elizabeth Loop

Starting Wednesday, September 3, Guelph Transit will take over the former Magic Bus late-night (early-morning) shuttle services.

Every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning, buses will leave the University Centre every hour from 12:45 until 3:45 a.m. and proceed:

westward along Stone Roads East and West;
northward along Edinburgh Roads South and North;
eastward along London Road West;
southward along Woolwich Street;
eastward along Macdonnell Street;
southward along Arthur Street South;
eastward along Elizabeth Street;
southward along Victoria Road South; and then
westward along Stone Road West to the University Centre,
ending their trips.

Buses drop off passengers on request along the route but only pick up passengers at the University Centre, Woolwich Street and Wyndham Street North and Woolwich Street and Macdonnell Street.

56 Rickson Express

Starting Tuesday, September 2, Guelph Transit will resume service on the route, but decrease the hours of service.

Scottsdale — Kortright Loop

Starting Wednesday, September 3, Guelph Transit will take over the former Magic Bus late-night (early-morning) shuttle services.

Every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning, buses will leave the University Centre every 30 minutes from 12:15 until 3:45 a.m. and proceed:

westward along South Ring Road;
southward along Gordon Street;
westward along Oak Street;
northward along Rickson Street;
west- and southward along Harvard Road;
westward along Youngman Drive;
northward along Edinburgh Road South;
westward along Wilsonview Drive;
southward along Scottsdale Drive;
west-, south-, east- and northward along Ironwood Road;
eastward along Kortright Road West;
northward along Gordon Street; and then
eastward along South Ring Road to the University Centre,
ending their trips.

Buses drop off passengers on request along the route but only pick up passengers at the University Centre.

50 Stone Road Express

Starting Tuesday, September 2, Guelph Transit will introduce this new route.

55 University / College

Starting Tuesday, September 2, Guelph Transit will resume service on this Monday-to-Friday rush-hour route. Buses operate every 30 minutes from about 7:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. and from 2:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.

West Hanlon Loop

Starting Wednesday, September 3, Guelph Transit will take over the former Magic Bus late-night (early-morning) shuttle services.

Every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning, buses will leave the University Centre every hour from 12:15 until 3:15 a.m. and proceed:

westward along Stone Roads East and West;
northward along Edinburgh Road South;
westward along College Avenue West;
southward along Old Hanlon Road;
westward along Flanders Road;
northward along Devere Drive;
west- and southward along College;
eastward along Stone West;
southward along Woodland Glen;
westward along Kortright Road West and Niska Road;
south- and eastward along Ptarmigan Drive;
south-, east- and northward along Pheasant Run Drive;
northward along Downey Road;
eastward along Kortright;
northward along Hanlon Parkway; and then
westward along Stone Roads West and East to the University Centre,
ending their trips.

Buses drop off passengers on request along the route but only pick up passengers at the University Centre.


Resume service to high schools

Hart’s Lane High School Special

Mondays to Fridays, starting Tuesday, September 2, a bus will leave Hart’s Lane East and Bathgate Drive at 8:30 a.m. and proceed:

northward along Bathgate;
east- and northward along Brady Lane;
westward along Kortright Road East;
northward along Dimson Avenue;
westward along Hands Drive;
northward along Gordon Street; and then
westward along College Avenue West to Centennial Collegiate Institute,
ending its trip at 8:50 a.m.

Mondays to Fridays, starting Tuesday, September 2, a bus will leave Centennial at 3:35 p.m. and proceed:

eastward along College Avenue West;
southward along Gordon Street;
eastward along Hart’s Lane East;
northward along Bathgate;
east- and northward along Brady Lane;
westward along Kortright Road East;
northward along Dimson Avenue;
westward along Hands Drive; and then
northward along Gordon Street to Monticello Drive,
ending its trip at 3:55 p.m.

Lourdes High School Special
