Special events in Bowmanville (Clarington), Brampton, Burlington, Caledon, Georgetown (Halton Hills), Guelph, Hamilton, Maple (Vaughan), Newmarket, Oakville, Streetsville, Thornhill (Markham), and Unionville (Markham) will affect transit services this weekend.


The events affect these routes:

Brampton Transit2 Main, Brampton Fall Fair Shuttle.

Burlington Transit2 Brant, 5 Francis.

Durham Region Transit 501 Aspen Springs, 502 Liberty.

GO Transit09 Lakeshore East, 31 Georgetown, 71 Stouffville.

Guelph TransitGuelph Storm service (all routes).

Hamilton Street Railway5 Delaware, 5C West Hamilton, 51 University.

Mississauga Transit44 Mississauga Road.

Oakville Transit18 Glen Abbey South; 28 Glen Abbey North.

York Region Transit3 Thornhill / York U, 4 Major Mackenzie, 90 Leslie South, 91 Bayview South.


The Friday, September 12 events affecting transit are: Brampton Fall Fair; Ontario Hockey League action; Westitalia.

The Saturday, September 13 events affecting transit are: Brampton Fall Fair; Downtown Brampton Farmers Market; Georgetown Farmers Market; The Great Maple Cart Derby; Streetsville 150; United Way Community Streetfest; Westitalia.

The Sunday, September 14 events affecting transit are: Brampton Fall Fair; Terry Fox Runs — in Bowmanville, Newmarket, Oakville, Stouffville, Thornhill; Westitalia.

Terry Fox Runs also take place in Ajax, Aurora, Barrie, Brampton, Burlington, Cannington, Dundas (Hamilton), Guelph, Hamilton, Keswick (Georgina), King City, Markham, Meadowvale (Mississauga), Mount Hope (Hamilton), Oak Ridges (Richmond Hill), Oshawa, Pickering, Port Credit (Mississauga), Port Perry (Scugog), Rockwood, Stoney Creek (Hamilton), Streetsville (Mississauga), Unionville (Markham), Uxbridge, Waterdown (Hamilton) and Woodbridge (Vaughan). As far as we know, these events will not affect transit services. (Most take place in parks or along trails.)


Bowmanville

Terry Fox Run (Bowmanville)

Durham Region Transit

501 Aspen Springs

Run participants will pass along part of Scugog Street North, King Street, Roenigk Drive and Waverley Road. Passengers should expect delays until about noon on Sunday, September 14.

502 Liberty

Run participants will pass along part of Scugog Street North, King Street, Baseline Roads East and West Liberty Streets North and South and Concession Street West. Passengers should expect delays until about noon on Sunday, September 14.

The two trips leaving Church and Temperance Street at 10:45 and 11:45 a.m. only will detour.

Southbound buses will operate along their regular route to Liberty Street South and Southway Drive, then detour:

eastward along Southway to Simpson Street,
resuming their regular route northward along Simpson. GO Transit

09 Lakeshore East

Run participants will pass along part of King Street. Passengers should expect delays until about noon on Sunday, September 14.


Brampton


Brampton events include: Brampton Fall Fair (September 11, 12, 13, 14); Downtown Brampton Farmers Market (September 13).


Brampton Fall Fair

Brampton Fall Fair Shuttle

Brampton Transit shuttle buses offer free and frequent service to carry fairgoers between the Heart Lake Terminal and the Region of Peel Agricultural Society’s 115th annual fall fiesta at the Brampton Fairgrounds on Heart Lake Road.

Buses leave the Terminal:

  • every 30 minutes on Friday, September 12 from 4:05 until 10:05 p.m.;
  • every 30 minutes on Saturday, September 13 from 9:35 a.m. until 9:35 p.m.; and
  • every 30 minutes on Sunday, September 14 from 8:35 a.m. until 5:05 p.m.

Buses leave the fairgrounds:

  • every 30 minutes on Friday, September 12 from 4:20 until 10:20 p.m.;
  • every 30 minutes on Saturday, September 13 from 9:50 a.m. until 9:50 p.m.; and
  • every 30 minutes on Sunday, September 14 from 8:50 a.m. until 5:20 p.m.

Downtown Brampton Farmers Market

The City of Brampton will close Main Street between John Street and Nelson Street West / Theatre Lane every Saturday morning until October 11 to accommodate the market.

Brampton Transit is detouring bus service during the market.

2 Main

From 6 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Main Street North and Nelson Street West, then detour:

westward along Nelson;
southward along George Streets North and South; and then
eastward along Wellington Street West to Main,
resuming their regular route southbound along Main.

Northbound buses reverse this routing.


Burlington

United Way Community Streetfest

The City of Burlington will close Brant Street between Caroline Street on Saturday to accommodate the United Way of Burlington and Greater Hamilton’s fund-raising and fun-raising event.

Burlington Transit will detour bus services during the event.

2 Brant

From 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Brant and Caroline Streets, then detour:

eastward along Caroline; and then
southward along John Street to the Downtown Burlington Transit Terminal,

Northbound buses reverse this routing.

5 Francis

From 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Ontario and Locust Streets, then detour:

northward along Locust;
eastward along Caroline Street;
southward along John Street:
eastward along James Street;
southward along Elizabeth Street;
westward along Pine Street; and then
northward along John Street to the Downtown Burlington Transit Terminal,
ending their trips.

Westbound buses reverse this routing.


Caledon

The Brampton Fairgrounds — home to the Brampton Fall Fair — is actually in the Town of Caledon.


Georgetown

Georgetown Farmers Market

The Town of Halton Hills will close part of Main Street South Georgetown every Saturday morning until October 11 to accommodate the Central Georgetown Business Improvement Area’s weekly market.

GO Transit is detouring bus service during the market.

31 Georgetown

From 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, buses travelling to and from Guelph remain on Highway 7 instead of travelling along Main Street. They do not serve the Georgetown agency during the market hours.

Buses that start or end their trips at Georgetown travel to and from the Georgetown GO Station and do not travel to downtown Georgetown.


Guelph

Ontario Hockey League action

You can ride any Guelph Transit bus for free on Friday, September 12 to the Guelph Storm game against the Barrie Colts at 7:30 p.m. — if you have a valid ticket to the game. You can ride free of fare to and from the Sleeman Centre on Friday evening by simply showing the Guelph Transit driver your game ticket.


Halton Hills

Hamilton

Westitalia

The City of Hamilton will close King Street West between Sterling Street and North Oval on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to accommodate the Westdale Village Business Improvement Area’s annual street festival.

The Hamilton Street Railway will detour bus service during the event.

5 Delaware

From noon on Friday, September 12 until 10 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, buses operate along their regular route to Sterling Street and Cline Avenue North, then detour:

north- and eastward along Cline to King Street West,
resuming their regular route eastward along King.

51 University

From noon on Friday, September 12 until about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Sterling Street and Cline Avenue North, then detour:

north- and eastward along Cline to King Street West,
resuming their regular route eastward along King.

Westbound buses operate along their regular route to King Street West and North Oval, then detour:

westward along North Oval to Sterling Street,
resuming their regular route westward along Sterling.

(The HSR does not operate buses along the 51 University route on Saturday evenings or Sundays.)

5C West Hamilton

From noon on Friday, September 12 until 10 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, buses operate along their regular route to King Street West and North Oval, then detour:

westward along North Oval to Sterling Street,
resuming their regular route westward along Sterling.


Maple

Great Maple Cart Derby

The Region of York will close Major Mackenzie Drive between Keele and Dufferin Streets on Saturday to accommodate the annual cart derby for boys and girls from eight to 14 years old.

York Region Transit will divert transit services during the event.

(YRT has not yet announced detours. this post describes how YRT detoured buses last year during this event.)

4 Major Mackenzie

On Saturday, September 13, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Major Mackenzie Drive and Keele Street, then detour:

southward along Keele;
eastward along Rutherford Road; and then
northward along Dufferin Street to Major Mackenzie,
resuming their regular route eastward along Major Mackenzie.

Westbound buses reverse the routing.


Markham

See Thornhill and Unionville.


Mississauga

See Streetsville.


Newmarket

Run participants will pass along part of Alex Doner Drive and Crossland Gate. Passengers should expect delays until about noon on Sunday, September 14.


Oakville

Run participants will pass along Pilgrim’s Way and part of Nottinghill Gate. Passengers should expect delays until about noon on Sunday, September 14.


Streetsville

Streetsville 150

The City of Mississauga will close Queen Street Streetsville between Thomas and Ontario Streets on Saturday, to accommodate the Streetsville Business Improvement Area ‘s celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the village.

Mississauga Transit will detour bus service during the event.

44 Mississauga Road

From 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Queen Street and Britannia Road West, then detour:

westward along Britannia;
southward along Erin Mills Parkway;
eastward along Thomas Street to Queen,
resuming their regular route southward along Queen.

Northbound buses reverse this routing.

Stouffville

Run participants will pass along parts of Main Street and Tenth Line. Passengers should expect delays from about 1 until 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 14.


Thornhill

91 Bayview South

Run participants will pass along part of Bayview Avenue. Passengers should expect delays until about noon on Sunday, September 14.

90 Leslie South

Run participants will pass along part of Don Mills Road and Leslie Street. Passengers should expect delays until about noon on Sunday, September 14.

3 Thornhill - York U

Run participants will pass along part of Leslie Street, Green Lane and Willowbrook Road. Passengers should expect delays until about noon on Sunday, September 14.

YRT will also detour this route during the Terry Fox Run at York University.


Unionville

Terry Fox Run (Unionville)

York Region Transit

85 Rutherford / 16th Avenue

Race participants will pass along part of 16th Avenue. Passengers should expect delays until about noon on Sunday, September 14.


Vaughan
