Federal government quietly commits funds
for extending the Spadina subway

The September 10 issue of urban-affairs newsletter Novae Res Urbis reports that on Thursday, September 5, the federal government announced that the federal, provincial and municipal governments have signed a contribution agreement for the project to extend the TTC’s 1 Yonge - University - Spadina subway northwestward to Vaughan.

According to Transport Canada’s news release, “with the signing of the contribution agreement, the Government of Canada will commit to paying up to $622 million under the Building Canada infrastructure plan towards the design and construction of this project. This is in addition to the $75 million already received by the project under the Public Transit Capital Trust.”
