Toronto Transit Commission meets Thursday

The Commission will hold its regular monthly meeting Thursday, October 23 at 1 p.m. in Committee Room 2, 2nd Floor, City Hall, 100 Queen Street West.

Among many other items, the Commission will consider staff reports recommending that the Commission:

  • amend its previous approval to buy 120 hybrid buses from Daimler Buses North America Limited. Staff are now recommending that the Commission buy, instead, 120 clean-diesel, low-floor 40-foot Orion VII NG buses from Daimler. The recommendation results from the unreliability of batteries in earlier hybrid buses that the commission has bought. (You can read the staff report here.) (.pdf)
  • deny a request to implement express bus service along Lake Shore Boulevard West to serve residents in the Humber Bay Shores Area. (You can read the staff report here.) (.pdf)

(One report that does not appear on this agenda is a report reviewing ongoing service issues on the 501 Queen streetcar route. The report on the proposed express bus service along Lake Shore Boulevard West indicates that this report will appear on this month’s agenda, so perhaps a supplementary agenda for the meeting will contain it.)

This meeting agenda also includes a presentation about the progress of the TTC’s program to improve the apperance and cleanliness of rapid transit stations. (You can view the presentation here.) (.pdf) It also includes an information report advising the Commission that staff are prepared to proceed shortly with building part of the project to improve Kipling Station. (You can read the report here.) (.pdf)
