Burlington committee reviews proposed transit changes, October 29

The City of Burlington’s Community and Corporate Services Committee will review staff recommendations that will significantly affect Burlington Transit services. The committee meets on Wednesday, October 29 from 6:30 until 10:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber, Level 2, Burlington City Hall, 426 Brant Street.

Among many other items, the committee will consider staff reports:

  • reviewing Burlington Transit (BT) services and recommending changing various BT routes, increasing fares and eliminating student activity passes. The recommendations all result from the 2008 transit operational efficiency review. (You can read the staff report here and the operational efficiency review here.) The proposed service changes would take place on Sunday. January 4, 2009.
  • presenting a bylaw setting BT fares and policies and a bylaw that would make Burlington Transit the sole provider of public transit services in the city. (Note Burlington City Council can exempt certain carriers from this policy, which would, presumably, allow GO Transit, the Hamilton Street Railway and Oakville Transit to operate in the city.)
  • updating the committee on revitalizing the BT operations centre.
