The Town of Markham has organized two transit-related events next week so you can learn about, and discuss, “how emerging social trends, new technologies and urban pressure are driving the future of transportation and transit.”
On Sunday, November 2 from 2 until 5 p.m. the Town will host “A Transit Vision”. You can hear the views of international urban planning futurists including Joe Berridge, Richard Gilbert, Peter Newman and Neal Irwin on the future of urban transportation. You can also learn more about the Metrolinx draft regional transportation plan from Metrolinx chair Rob MacIsaac and how Vancouver has become one of the few metropolitan centres to reduce commuter traveling times from Lon LaClaire, Vancouver’s Manager of Strategic Transportation Planning.
On Monday, November 3 from 6:30 until 9:30 p.m., the Town presents “A Transit Plan”, your chance to find out more about how the Metrolinx plan affects Markham and York Region and comment on the plan.
You’ll hear presentations from Regional Councillor (and Chair of the Markham Transportation Committee) Gordon Landon, Regional Councillor Jim Jones and Metrolinx General Manager Leslie Woo.
Both sessions take place at:
Council Chamber,
Markham Civic Centre
101 Town Centre Boulevard.
You can register for the events here or by calling 905-477-5530.
You can also watch and participate on-line from the Town’s website.
