Santa Claus Parades and other events disrupt transit services this weekend.


Part 1 of this post describes the events in Ajax, Aurora, Barrie, Guelph and Hamilton.

Part 2 of this post describes the events in Milton, Newcastle (Clarington), Sharon (East Gwillimbury) Oshawa and Weston (Toronto).

The Friday, November 21 event affecting transit is: Ontario Hockey League action.

The Saturday, November 22 events affecting transit are: Ajax Santa Claus Parade, Barrie Santa Claus Parade, Desjardins Vanier Cup, Santa’s Parade of Lights (Oshawa), Santa Under the Stars (Aurora).

The Sunday, November 23 events affecting transit are: East Gwillimbury Santa Claus Parade, Milton Santa Claus Parade, Newcastle Santa Claus Parade, Weston Santa Claus Parade.


Milton

Milton Santa Claus Parade

The Town of Milton will close

  • Main Street between Bronte Street and the Milton Mall

and other streets in central Milton on Sunday afternoon to accommodate the annual parade.

GO Transit will detour bus service during the event.

21 Milton

From 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, all buses start and end their trips at Milton GO Station.


Newcastle

Newcastle Santa Claus Parade

The the Region of Durham and the Municipality of Clarington will close

  • King Avenue Newcastle between Baldwin and Arthur Streets

on Sunday evening to accommodate the fourth annual parade.

GO Transit will detour bus service during the event.

90 Newcastle - Oshawa

GO has confirmed that it will detour buses from 4:30 until 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 25. It has also confirmed that buses will not serve stops east of Rudell Road, but GO has not announced specific detours.

The parade in Oshawa will also affect this route.


Oshawa

Santa’s Parade of Lights

The Region of Durham and the City of Oshawa will close

  • Centre Street South between King and John Streets West,
  • Elmgrove Street between Park Road South and the Oshawa Centre,
  • John Street West between Centre Street South and Park Road South and
  • King Street West between the Centre Street and the Oshawa Centre

on Saturday evening to accommodate the annual parade.

Durham Region Transit and GO Transit will detour bus service during the event.

DRT

412 Adelaide

On Saturday, November 22 from approximately 5:30 until 9:30 p.m., westbound buses operate along their regular route to Park Road North and Bond Street West, then detour:

westward along Bond;
southward along Stevenson Roads North and South; and then
eastward along Gibb Street into the Oshawa Centre Terminal,
ending their trips.

Eastbound buses start their trips at the Oshawa Centre Terminal, then proceed:

westward along Gibb Street;
northward along Stevenson Roads South and North; and then
eastward along Adelaide Avenue West to Park Road North,
resuming their regular route eastward along Adelaide.

405 Central Park

From about 5:30 until 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, westbound buses operate along their regular route.

Eastbound buses start their trips at the Oshawa Centre, then proceed:

eastward along Gibb Street; and then
northward along Simcoe Street South to King Street,
resuming their regular route eastward along King Street East.

406 Dean

From about 5:30 until 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Centre Street North and Richmond Street East, then detour:

eastward along Richmond;
southward along Mary Streets North and South;
westward along Athol Street East;
southward along Celina Street; and then
westward along Elm and Gibb Streets to Centre Street South,
resuming their regular route southward along Centre.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route.

411 Grandview

From about 5:30 until 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, westbound buses operate along their regular route to Bond Street West and Park Road North, then detour:

westward along Bond;
southward along Stevenson Road North and South; and then
eastward along Gibb Street to the Oshawa Centre,
ending their trips.

Eastbound buses start their trips at the Oshawa Centre, then proceed:

eastward along Gibb Street; and then
northward along Simcoe Street South to King Street,
resuming their regular route eastward along King Street East.

402 King

From about 5:30 until 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, westbound buses operate along their regular route to Bond Street West and Gibbons Street, then detour:

westward along Bond;
southward along Stevenson Road North and South; and then
eastward along Gibb Street to the Oshawa Centre,
ending their trips.

Eastbound buses start their trips at the Oshawa Centre, then proceed:

eastward along Gibb Street; and then
northward along Simcoe Street South to King Street,
resuming their regular route eastward along King Street East.

410 Olive-Harmony

From about 5:30 until 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, westbound buses operate along their regular route to Albert Street South and Elm Street, then detour:

westward along Elm and Gibb Streets to the Oshawa Centre, ending their trips.

Eastbound buses start their trips at the Oshawa Centre, then proceed:

eastward along Gibb Street;
northward along Simcoe Street South; and then
eastward along John Street East to Celina Street,
resuming their regular route southward along Celina.

401 Simcoe

From about 5:30 until 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Centre Street North and Richmond Street East, then detour:

eastward along Richmond;
southward along Mary Streets North and South;
westward along Athol Street East;
southward along Celina Street; and then
westward along Elm and Gibb Streets to Centre Street South,
resuming their regular route southward along Centre.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route.

GO Transit

90 Newcastle - Oshawa

From about 5:30 until 10 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, westbound buses operate along their regular route

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Stevenson Road and King Street West, then detour:

northward along Stevenson Road North;
eastward along Adelaide Avenues West and East; and then
southward along Mary Street North to King Street East,
resuming their regular route eastward along King.

The parade in Newcastle also affects this route.

94 Oshawa Highway 2

From about 5:30 until 10 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, westbound buses operate along their regular route to Bond Street West and Prince Street, where they serve a temporary stop on the street, instead of entering the Oshawa Bus Terminal.

They then proceed along their regular route westward along Bond.

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Stevenson Road and King Street West, then detour:

northward along Stevenson Road North;
eastward along Adelaide Avenues West and East;
southward along Ritson Roads North and South; and then
eastward along Bloor Street East to Simcoe Street South,
resuming their regular route eastward along Bloor Street West.

The parade in Ajax also affects this route.


Sharon

East Gwillimbury Santa Claus Parade

The Region of York and the Town of East Gwillimbury will close

  • Leslie Street between Colonel Wayling Boulevard and Mount Albert Road

on Sunday afternoon to accommodate the annual parade.

GO Transit will detour bus service during the event.

69 Sutton

GO has confirmed that, from about 1:30 until 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, GO buses will not serve stops along Leslie Street between Green Lane and Mount Albert Road.

GO has not specified the detour route.

Weston

Weston Santa Claus Parade

The City of Toronto will close

  • Weston Road between Church Street and Sidney Belsey Crescent

on Sunday afternoon to accommodate the Weston Village Business Improvement Area’s 28th annual parade.

The TTC will detour bus service during the event.

52 Lawrence West

From 1 until 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Lawrence Avenue West and Scarlett Road, then detour:

southward along Scarlett;
eastward along Eglinton Avenue West; and then
northward along Jane Street to Lawrence,
resuming their regular route eastward along Lawrence.

Westbound buses reverse this routing.

58 Malton

From 1 until 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Scarlett Road and Lawrence Avenue West, then detour:

southward along Scarlett;
eastward along Eglinton Avenue West; and then
northward along Jane Street to Lawrence,
resuming their regular route eastward along Lawrence.

Westbound buses reverse this routing.

79 Scarlett Rd

From 1 until 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, southbound buses start their trips on Royal York Road at Lawrence Avenue West, then proceed:

eastward along Lawrence to Scarlett Road,
resuming their regular route southward along Scarlett.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route to Scarlett Road and Lawrence Avenue West, then detour:

northward along Scarlett;
westward along Dixon Road; and then
southward along Royal York Road to Lawrence,
ending their trips.

89 Weston

From 1 until 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Weston Road and Oak Street, then detour:

eastward along Oak and Gary Drive;
southeastward along Pelmo Crescent;
southward along Uphill Avenue;
eastward along Church Street;
southward along Jane Street to Weston,
resuming their regular route southeastward along Weston.

Northbound buses reverse this routing.
