Some passengers pay more for transit in January



You’ll be paying more to ride transit in Barrie, Oakville and York Region, starting Thursday, January 1, 2009. And, you’ll be paying more in Burlington, starting Sunday, January 4.


Barrie Transit increases the cost of monthly passes on Thursday, January 1. (Because Barrie Transit does not operate any buses on New Year’s Day, passengers actually don’t pay more for the service until Friday, January 2). The cost of an adult pass for January 2009 is $72, up $2 a month from last year’s cost of $70. Barrie Transit is also increasing the cost of other passes, but is not raising the cash fare.

Burlington Transit increases the cost of cash fares, tickets and passes on Sunday, January 4. The cost of adult cash fare increases by $0.25 from $2.50 to $2.75.

Oakville Transit increases the cost of adult cash fares on Thursday, January 1. Adult cash fares increase by $0.25 from $2.75 to $3. OT is also increasing the costs of tickets and passes.

York Region Transit increases the cost of adult cash fares on Thursday, January 1. Adult cash fares for traveling in one zone only increase by $0.25 from $3 to $3.25. YRT is also increases the costs of tickets and passes for traveling in all zones.

YRT passengers can continue to use old tickets from 2006, 2007 and 2009 without having to pay more at the farebox. If passengers have tickets from 2005 or earlier, they can exchange them, with an appropriate extra fare with the applicable supplement at the YRT / Viva office, 50 High Tech Road, Richmond Hill.
