Burlington Transit revises service, January 4



After extensively consulting with passengers and residents of Burlington, and at least one visit back to the drawing board, Burlington Transit finally introduces major changes to its routes and service, starting Sunday, January 4.


The changes affect these routes: 1 Fairview / Plains; 2 Brant; 3 Guelph; 4 Pinedale; 5 Francis; 6 Headon Forest; 7 Tyandaga; 8 Harvester / North Service; 10 New - Maple; 11 Appleby; 12 Upper Middle; 13 New / Rebecca; 15 Walkers; 16 Burloak; 61 Orchard GO Special; 62 Headon GO Special; 78 Aldershot, 79 Rolling Meadows / M. M. Robinson / Notre Dame, 81 Corpus Christi, 83 Corpus Christi, 84 Notre Dame / M. M. Robinson / Rolling Meadows, 85 Rolling Meadows, 86 Aldershot; Dial-a-Ride.


Specifically, Burlington Transit will: introduce a new route; cancel current routes; introduce new dial-a-ride service; extend current routes; revise current routes; increase service along current routes; decrease service along current routes; resume extra service to high schools; adjust the schedules of current routes.


Introduce a new route

16 Burloak

Starting Sunday, January 4, Burlington Transit operates buses along this new route between Appleby GO Station and the Rio Can Centre on Wyecroft Road, west of Burloak Drive on Saturdays, Sundays and most holidays.

Eastbound buses start their trips at Appleby GO Station, then proceed:

westward along Fairview Street;
northward along Appleby Line;
westward along Harvester Road and Wyecroft Road into the Rio Can Centre.

Westbound buses reverse this routing.

Buses leave Appleby GO Station every 30 minutes from 8:35 a.m. until 7:35 p.m. Saturdays. They leave Appleby every hour from 7:35 p.m. until 9:35 p.m. Saturdays and from 9:50 a.m. until 4:50 p.m. Sundays and holidays.

Buses leave the Rio Can Centre every 30 minutes from 8:45 a.m. until 7:45 p.m. Saturays. They leave Rio Can every hour from 7:45 until 9:45 p.m. Saturdays and from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sundays and holidays.

At the Rio Can Centre, passengers can transfer to and from Oakville Transit buses operating on the 32 Burloak North route.

Buses operating on Burlington Transit’s 4 Pinedale route carry passengers between Appleby GO Station and the Rio Can Centre Mondays to Fridays until about 10 p.m. Buses operating on Burlington Transit’s 8 Harvester / North Service route carry passengers along Harvester Road between Appleby Line and Burloak Drive Mondays to Fridays until about 6 p.m.

Cancel current routes

7 Tyandaga

Friday, January 2 is the last day that buses operate along this Monday-to-Friday rush hour route. Starting Monday, January 4, Burlington Transit introduces new dial-a-ride service to passengers traveling to and from Tyandaga Park Drive, Kerns Road, North Service Road, Leighland Road, Glendor Avenue and Helena Street.

13 Rebecca - New

Friday, January 2 is the last day that buses operate along this Monday-to-Friday rush-hour route between Appleby GO Station and Hopedale Mall in Oakville. Buses operating along Oakville Transit’s 32 Burloak North route serve the same area.


Introduce new dial-a-ride service

Dial-a-Ride

Starting Monday, January 4, passengers traveling to and from Tyandaga Park Drive, Kerns Road, North Service Road, Leighland Road, Glendor Avenue and Helena Street can use new dial-a-ride service from 6:30 until 9:15 a.m. and from 4:30 until 7:15 p.m., Mondays to Fridays.

If you’re traveling from the area call 905-333-1113 about 30 minutes before your trip. A taxi will pick you up and deliver you to the nearest transfer point. You pay regular Burlington Transit fare and the driver will issue you a transfer, which you can use when you board a regular Burlington Transit bus at the transfer point.

If you’re traveling to the area by Burlington Transit, tell the driver that you need to transfer to a dial-a-ride service and the driver will issue a special dial-a-ride transfer and book a cab to pick you up at the transfer point. Or you can call 905-333-1113 to book your cab 30 minutes before your trip.

You can also schedule a cab for regular trips and the cab will pick you and drop you off at a regular time as often as you require.

Transfer points for this dial-a-ride service are at Tyandaga Park Drive and Brant Street and North Service Road and Brant Street.

The new dial-a-ride service replaces buses operating on the 7 Tyandaga route.


Extend current routes

4 Pinedale

Starting Monday, January 4, Burlington Transit extends the route to the Rio Can Centre on Wyecroft Road, east of Burloak Drive Mondays to Fridays only.

Eastbound buses operate along their current route to Deerhurst Avenue and New Street, then proceed:

eastward along New;
northward along Burloak Drive; and then
eastward along Wyecroft Road to the Rio Can Centre,
ending their trips.

Westbound buses start their trips at the Rio Can Centre, then proceed:

westward along Wyecroft Road;
southward along Burloak Drive;
westward along New Street;
northward along Deerhurst Avenue; and then
westward along Riverside Drive and Pinedale Avenue to Wedgewood Drive,
resuming their current route westward along Pinedale.

On Saturdays, buses operate along their current route.

Eastbound buses end their trips at Deerhurst Avenue and New Street.

Westbound buses start their trips at Deerhurst Avenue and New Street, then proceed:

westward along New; and then
northward along Wedgewood Drive to Pinedale Avenue,
resuming their Monday-to-Friday route westward along Pinedale.

Burlington Transit also increases the hours that buses operate along the route.

Revise current routes

11 Appleby

Starting Monday, January 5, southbound buses operate along their current route to Sutton and Pathfinder Drives, then proceed:

southward along Sutton; and then westward along Upper Middle Road to Imperial Way,
resuming their current route southward along Imperial.

Northbound buses reverse this routing.

Buses operating on the revised route serve stops along Sutton Drive and Upper Middle Road between Sutton Drive and Imperial Way that buses operating on the 12 Upper Middle route currently serve. During Monday-to-Friday rush hours only, buses operating on the 61 Orchard GO Special route serve stops along Pathfinder Drive, Orchard Road and Dryden Avenue that buses operating on the 11 Appleby route currently serve.

Burlington Transit also increases the hours that buses operate along the route.

61 Orchard GO Special

Southbound buses operate only during Monday-to-Friday morning rush hours. Starting Monday, January 5, they start their trips at Dryden Avenue and Orchard Road, then proceed:

eastward along Dryden to Sutton Drive,
resuming their current route northward along Sutton.

Northbound buses operate only during Monday-to-Friday afternoon rush hours. Starting Monday, January 5, they operate along their current route to Dryden Avenue and Orchard Road, then proceed:

eastward along Dryden;
northward along Sutton Drive;
westward along Pathfinder Drive;
southward along Orchard Road to Dryden Avenue,
ending their trips.

12 Upper Middle

Starting Monday, January 5, southbound buses start their trips at the First Pro Shopping Centre (WalMart) as they do currently, but proceed:

southward along Appleby Line; and then
southwestward along Millcroft Way to Upper Middle Road,
resuming their current route westward along Upper Middle.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route to Upper Middle Road and Appleby Line, then proceed:

northward along Appleby to the First Pro Shopping Centre.

Buses operating on the revised 11 Appleby route serve stops along Upper Middle Road, west of Appleby Line and Sutton Drive that buses operating on the 12 Upper Middle currently serve.

Increase service along current routes

5 Francis

Starting Monday, January 5, Burlington Transit operates later trips Monday-to-Friday evenings. Eastbound buses leave King Road and Townsend Avenue at 6:45, 7:15 and 7:45 p.m. Westbound buses leave the Downtown Burlington Transit Terminal at 7 and 7:30 p.m.

4 Pinedale

Starting Monday, January 5, Burlington Transit operates later trips Monday-to-Friday evenings. Eastbound buses leave the Downtown Burlington Transit Terminal at 7 and 7:30 p.m. Eastbound buses leave Appleby GO Station at 7:30, 8, 8:30, 9 and 9:30 p.m. Westbound buses leave the Rio Can Centre at 7:15 p.m. for the Downtown Terminal and at 7:45, 8:15, 8:45, 9:15 and 9:45 p.m. for Appleby GO Station.

Burlington Transit is also extending the route.

11 Appleby

Starting Monday, January 5, Burlington Transit operates one more trip along the route in each direction Monday-to-Friday evenings. A southbound bus leaves the First Pro Shopping Centre at 10:59 p.m. A northbound bus leaves Appleby GO Station at 11:01 p.m.

Burlington Transit is also revising the route.

15 Walkers

Starting Monday, January 5, Burlington Transit is operating one later Monday-to-Friday evening trip. A northbound bus leaves Appleby GO Station at 10:31 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.

Decrease service along current routes

8 Harvester / North Service

Starting Monday, January 5, Burlington Transit operates one less bus in each direction along Harvester Road between Burlington and Appleby GO Stations. It cancels the eastbound bus that leaves Burlington GO Station at 6:35 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. It also cancels the westbound bus that leaves Appleby GO Station at 6:50 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.

Buses operating on the new 16 Burloak route serve Harvester Road between Appleby Line and Burloak Drive Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

6 Headon Forest

Starting Monday, January 5, Burlington Transit operates one less trip along the route early Monday-to-Friday evenings. It cancels the northbound bus leaving Burlington GO Station at 7:15 p.m.

62 Headon GO Special

Starting Monday, January 5, Burlington Transit operates fewer trips along the route. It is canceling the Monday-to-Friday morning rush hour southbound bus that leaves the Super Centre (Guelph Line and Upper Middle Road) at 7 a.m. It is canceling the Monday-to-Friday afternoon rush hour northbound buses that leave Appleby GO Station at 4:22, 5:35 and 7 p.m.

Buses resume operating along these high school special routes on Monday, January 5. (Buses have not operated along the routes since Friday, December 19.)

15 Walkers

Starting Monday, January 5, Burlington adjusts the schedule to so that buses align better with the schedule of buses operating on the 11 Appleby route. It also increases the hours that buses operate along the route. You can see a route map and schedule here.


Burlington Transit also raises fares on Sunday, January 4.


Burlington Transit held public consultation meetings last May, intending to introduce these service changes in September. It received extensive feedback from the public and, as a result, went back to the drawing boards to develop another plan. It again consulted with the public in July. The proposals then moved through the political process and, after several postponed meetings, the City of Burlington’s Community and Corporate Services Committee approved the proposals at a special meeting on November 15. Finally, City Council passed the plan at its meeting on December 1.
