Today’s Globe and Mail reports that the Toronto Transit Commission will not decide which company will build its new fleet of low-floor, accessible streetcars until April.
In his article, report Jeff Gray explains that, after a request for proposals last fall failed to identify a successful vendor, the TTC decided to meet with leading manufacturers directly to discuss its requirements.
The TTC is still discussing the proposed contract with three supplier’s: Canada’s Bombardier Inc., France’s Alstom and Germany’s Siemans AG.
The article quotes TTC chair, Councillor Adam Giambrone, as saying that even if the TTC doesn’t sign a contract with a supplier until April, the project will only be three months behind schedule.
