TTC close to end of process to buy streetcars?

According to Railway Gazette, the TTC is on the home stretch of the long process to buy 204 low-floor streetcars to replace the current fleet.

The Gazette reports that the TTC finished negotiations about technical details and commercial arrangements with Canada’s Bombardier Inc., France’s Alstom SA and Germany’s Siemans AG on January 5. It then gave the three companies seven weeks to submit prices to staff. The TTC expects to announce the successful bidder in April.

The TTC rejected the only two bids it received from a request for proposals last year. It then re-opened the process and invited the three companies to participate. The Gazette says that all three companies agreed to participate and said they could build cars to the TTC’s specifications.
