Thousands of protestors snarl downtown transit

Thousands of protestors, demonstrated against the ongoing civil war in Sri Lanka have formed a human chain along University Avenue, Front Street and Yonge Street as far north as Bloor Street today.

After marching along University Avenue, the demonstration will continue at least until 6 p.m. tonight, slowing traffic and transit services throughout downtown Toronto.

Transit riders have reported a number of delays today, including jammed platforms at Scarborough Centre Stations as people traveled downtown to join the protest, along University Avenue and at Yonge - Dundas Square earlier today.

Toronto Police Service officers are on the scene to maintain order and transit passengers should expect slow service until they leave the downtown area this afternoon.
