On Saturday, February 28, GO Transit opened its latest environmentally friendly, state-of-the-art bus garage in Streetsville. The new bus facility at 6190 Mississauga Road is now home base for more than 200 buses, including GO’s double-decker buses.
This new facility allows GO to park, maintain and service hundreds of buses in the western Greater Toronto Area. By limiting the distance buses travel to the west region, GO will save fuel, reduce fleet mileage and minimize maintenance requirements. Storing buses in multiple locations helps GO deliver better, more reliable service to passengers. GO has built the new Streetsville facility so that it can expand the structure to meet more demands from passengers as GO ridership grows.
The Canada Green Building Counci introduced LEED — Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design — standards to Canada, encouraging developers and builders to adopt sustainable green building and development practices. GO has designed and built the facility to the silver LEED standard. It is the first LEED transit building in the Greater Toronto Area.
The new facility is on Mississauga Road, north of Britannia Road West.
