Weekend event affects transit service, March 15



St. Patrick’s Day has evolved into a international day to celebrate Irish people and all things Irish. Even folks who aren’t Irish wear the green, drink green beer and become temporarily Irish for the day.

In Toronto, this year’s St. Patrick’s Day parade takes place in Toronto on Sunday, March 15, and the TTC will detour transit vehicles during the parade.


The parade affects service on these routes: 5 Avenue Rd; 6 Bay; 26 Dupont; 94 Wellesley; 501 Queen; 505 Dundas; 506 Carlton.


While parade organizers are setting up the parade from 8 a.m. until about 12:30 p.m., the City of Toronto will close

  • Harbord Street between Spadina Avenue and St. George Street,
  • Hoskin Avenue between St. George Street and Queen’s Park Crescent West

and other streets near the St. George Campus of the University of Toronto.

The parade starts from St. George Street and Bloor Street West at noon. As the parade reaches various parts of its route and then clears the streets after it passes by, the City is closing and then re-opening various streets in downtown Toronto from noon until about 3 p.m., including

  • Bloor Street West between Avenue Road / Queen’s Park and Yonge Street,
  • Queen Street West between Yonge Street and University Avenue and
  • Yonge Street between Bloor and Queen Streets.

To help control traffic during the parade and while parade participants are dispersing, the City is also closing several streets around City Hall from 12:30 until about 3 p.m., including:

  • Bay Street between Dundas and Queen Streets West.

5 Avenue Rd

Buses operate along their regular route. As the parade passes Bloor Street West and Avenue Road / Queen’s Park, from about noon until about 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, Toronto Police Service officers will allow buses to proceed through gaps in the parade at Bloor Street West and Avenue Road. Passengers should expect delays until the parade clears the intersection.

6 Bay

Buses operate along their regular route.

From about noon until about 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, Toronto Police Service officers will allow buses to proceed through gaps in the parade at Bay Street and Bloor Street West. Passengers should expect delays until the parade clears the intersection.

From 12:30 until 3:30 p.m., Toronto Police Service officers will allow buses to proceed through the closed portion of Bay Street between Dundas and Queen Streets West.

From about 2 until 3:30 p.m., Toronto Police Service officers will allow buses to proceed through gaps in the parade at Bay Street and Queen Street West. Passengers should expect some delays until the parade disperses.

506 Carlton

Streetcars operate along their regular route. As the parade passes Yonge and Carlton / College Streets, from about 1 until about 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, Toronto Police Service officers will allow streetcars to proceed through gaps in the parade. Passengers should expect some delays until the parade clears the intersection.

505 Dundas

Streetcars operate along their regular route. As the parade passes Yonge and Dundas Streets, from about 1 until about 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, Toronto Police Service officers will allow streetcars to proceed through gaps in the parade at Dundas and Yonge Streets. Passengers should expect some delays until the parade clears the intersection.

26 Dupont

The TTC is already detouring buses due to construction in St. George Station bus terminal. During the parade it will further detour the buses. From noon until about 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Bedford Road and Lowther Avenue, then detour:

westward along Lowther;
southward along St. George Street; and then
eastward along Prince Arthur Avenue to Bedford,
ending their trips on the street outside of St. George Station.

Westbound buses operate along their regular route.

Buses resume their regular detour route after the parade has cleared Bloor Street West between St. George Street and Bedford Road.

501 Queen

From about 2 until 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, eastbound streetcars operate along their regular route to Queen Street West and Spadina Avenue, then detour:

southward along Spadina;
eastward along King Streets West and East; and then
northward along Church Street to Queen Street East,
resuming their regular route eastward along Queen East.

Westbound streetcars reverse this routing.

94 Wellesley

From 8 a.m. until12:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Harbord Street and Spadina Avenue, then detour:

southward along Spadina Avenue and Crescent;
eastward along College Street; and then
northward along Queen’s Park and Queen’s Park Crescent East to Wellesley Street West,
resuming their regular route eastward along Wellesley West.

Westbound buses operate along their regular route to Wellesley Street West and Queen’s Park Crescent East, then detour:

westward along Wellesley West;
southward along Queen’s Park Crescent West and Queen’s Park;
westward along College Street; and then
northward along Spadina Avenue and Crescent to Harbord Street,
resuming their regular route westward along Harbord.

As the parade passes Yonge and Wellesley Streets, from about 1 until 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, Toronto Police Service officers will allow buses to proceed through gaps in the parade. Passengers should expect some delays until the parade clears the intersection.
