Ontario budget reserves $billions
for transit projects

Yesterday, Ontario Finance Minister Dwight Duncan unveiled the Government of Ontario’s budget.

While the media most people focused on the Government’s plan to merge the provincial sales tax with the federal goods and services tax, the budget did reserve funds for public transit projects.

The Government plans to spend at least $9 billion to support transportation infrastructure over the next two years and has reserved at least $3 billion of that sum for public transit.

The Minister did not reveal details about which projects the funds will support. We’ll have to await for the government to negotiate with the federal government and municipalities before we learn more about specific projects.
