YRT revises service, April 26



York Region Transit is revising some routes and increasing service along others, starting next Sunday, April 26. With the end of the winter academic term and the start of the better weather, YRT is also canceling an extra service to a community college and resuming its seasonal service to Canada’s Wonderland.


Specifically, YRT is: increasing service along current routes; extending current routes; revising current routes; canceling extra service to a college; and adjusting the schedules of current routes.


The changes affect these routes: Viva blue; 4 Major Mackenzie; 9 Ninth Line; 13 Islington; 20 Jane - Concord; 56 Eagle - Gorham; 85/85A Rutherford - 16th Avenue; 87 Langstaff - Maple; 88 Bathurst; 88E Bathurst limited express; 90 Leslie South; 303 Bur Oak express; 409 Markham District High School special via Bur Oak; 413 St. Robert / Thornlea high school special; 443 Cardinal Carter high school special; 444 Langstaff high school special.


Increasing service along current routes


303 Bur Oak express

Starting Monday, April 27, a bus operates on a new trip leaving Bur Oak Avenue and McCowan Road at 6:30 a.m. Mondays to Fridays.

85/85A Rutherford - 16th Avenue

Starting Sunday, March 8, YRT adjusted the frequency of Sunday-and-holiday service along the route. Buses now operate every 45 minutes, instead of every hour, Sundays and holidays.

YRT also adjusted the Monday-to-Friday schedule of the route.

Viva blue

Starting Sunday, April 26, a southbound bus operates on a new trip, leaving Newmarket GO Bus Terminal at 7:30 a.m. Sundays and holidays.

A northbound bus operates on a new trip, leaving Finch GO Bus Terminal at 8:29 a.m. Sundays and holidays.


Extending current routes


20 Jane - Concord

Starting Sunday, April 26, buses resume service to Canada’s Wonderland seven days a week. Both south- and northbound buses operate along their current route to the Canada’s Wonderland service road on Jane Street, north of Major Mackenzie Drive, then serve the bus stop beside the employees’ entrance in the Canada’s Wonderland terminal. The buses then return to Jane Street to resume the usual south- or northbound route.

YRT also adjusts the schedule of the route.

90 Leslie South

Starting Sunday, April 26, YRT is extending the route on Sundays and holidays.

Southbound buses operate along their current route to Don Mills Road and Steeles Avenue East, then proceed:

southward along Don Mills;
east- and southward along Fairview Mall Drive; and then
westward along Sheppard Avenue East to Don Mills Station,
ending their trips.

Northbound buses start their trips at Don Mills Station, then proceed:
westward along Sheppard Avenue East; and then
northward along Don Mills Road to Steeles Avenue East,
resuming their regular route northward along Don Mills.

Buses do not operate along Finch Avenue East to serve the stop at Seneca College’s Newnham Campus on Sundays and holidays.

4 Major Mackenzie

Starting Sunday, April 26, GO is extending the route to Vaughan Mills Terminal. Buses operate along their current route to Jane Street and Springside Road, then continue southward to Vaughan Mills.

Buses no longer serve stops along Melville Avenue or Springside Road. This year, the buses no longer stop at the transit terminal in Canada’s Wonderland. Buses pick up and drop off passengers at stops on Jane Street beside Wonderland.

YRT buses operating along the 20 Jane - Concord and 87 Langstaff - Maple routes continue to serve stops on Melville Avenue. Buses operating along the 20 Jane - Concord route continue to serve stops on Springside Road.

YRT also adjusts the schedule of the route.

(Buses serving the 4A branch continue to operate between Markham - Stouffville Hospital or Mount Joy GO Station and Weston Road as currently.)

409 Markham District High School special via Bur Oak

Starting Monday, April 27, YRT extends the route to Kennedy Road and the Fairways / Castlemore Avenue.

The morning bus starts its trip at Kennedy Road and the Fairways at 7:15 a.m. The bus then proceeds:

southward along Kennedy to Bur Oak Avenue,
resuming its current route eastward along Bur Oak.

The afternoon buses operate along their current route to Bur Oak Avenue and Kennedy Road, then proceed:

northward along Kennedy to Castlemore Avenue, <
ending their trips at 3:35 and 3:40 p.m.

(Buses start and end their trips at the same time as they do currently.)

Revising current routes


443 Cardinal Carter high school special

Starting Monday, April 27, the morning bus leaves Bernard Terminal, then proceeds:

east-, north- and westward along Bernard Avenue;
northward along Yorkland Street;
eastward along Brookwood Drive;
east- and northward along Devonsleigh Boulevard; and then
westward along 19th Avenue to Yonge Street,
resuming its regular route northward along Yonge.

The afternoon bus reverses this routing.

Buses continue to start and end their trips at the same time as they do currently.

56 Eagle - Gorham

Starting Monday, April 27, YRT diverts one morning and one afternoon trip to accommodate passengers traveling to or from Sacred Heart High School. The eastbound bus that leaves Newmarket GO Bus Terminal at 7:50 a.m. Mondays to Fridays operates along its regular route to Gorham Street and Alexander Road, then diverts:

northbound along Alexander; and then
eastward along Srigley Street to Sacred Heart,
arriving at the school at 8:02 a.m.

The bus then continues:

eastward along Srigley; and then
southward along Carlson Drive to Gorham Street,
resuming its regular route eastward along Gorham.

The westbound bus that leaves the 404 Town Centre at 2:55 p.m. Mondays to Fridays, operates along its regular route to Gorham Street and Alexander Road, then diverts:

northbound along Alexander; and then
eastward along Srigley Street to Sacred Heart,
arriving at the school at 3:22 p.m.

The bus then continues:

eastward along Srigley; and then
southward along Carlson Drive to Gorham Street,
resuming its regular route westward along Gorham.

Canceling extra service to a college
88E Bathurst limited express

Friday, April 24 is the last day until September that YRT operates buses along this limited stop route to Seneca College’s King Campus.


Adjusting the schedules of current routes


88 Bathurst

Starting Monday, April 27, the northbound bus that currently leaves Finch GO Bus Terminal at 7 a.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves three minutes earlier at 6:57 a.m.

13 Islington

To help passengers connect with buses operating along other YRT routes, starting Monday, April 27, the southbound bus that currently leaves Kleinburg at 6:25 a.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves leaves five minutes earlier at 6:20 a.m.

The northbound bus that currently leaves Steeles Avenue West and Islington Avenue at 6:45 a.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves five minutes earlier at 6:40 a.m.

20 Jane - Concord

Starting Sunday, April 26, YRT extends the route to Canada’s Wonderland.

To accommodate the extra Wonderland stop, YRT is adjusting the schedule of northbound buses. Buses arrive at Mosque Gate and Teston Road four minutes later than currently Mondays to Fridays and five minutes later Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Southbound buses continue to operate on their current schedule.

87 Langstaff - Maple

Starting Monday, April 27, YRT adjusts the Monday-to-Friday rush-hour schedules by decreasing the time that buses wait for passengers at Rutherford GO Station.

444 Langstaff high school special

Since February, YRT has operated this service with a new schedule. The bus that formerly left South Park Road and Commerce Valley Drive West at 7:40 a.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves five minutes earlier at 7:35 a.m., arriving at Langstaff Secondary School at 8:05 a.m.

4 Major Mackenzie

Starting Sunday, April 26, YRT extends the route to Vaughan Mills Terminal. To accommodate the extended route, buses operate on new schedules seven days a week.

9 Ninth Line

To help passengers connect with YRT buses operating along the 15 Stouffville Local route, starting Monday, April 27, the southbound bus that currently leaves Ninth Line and Millard Street at 5:30 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves seven minutes later at 5:37 p.m. The bus arrives at Parkview Village at 5:42 p.m. so that passengers can transfer to or from buses operating on the 15 Stouffville Local route that arrive at Parkview Village at 5:40 and 5:52 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.

85 Rutherford - 16th Avenue

On Monday, March 9, YRT adjusted the schedules. The westbound bus that formerly left Rutherford GO Station at 7:05 a.m. Mondays to Fridays now leaves five minutes earlier at 7 a.m. On its return trip, the eastbound bus that formerly left Napa Valley and Rutherford Roads at 7:32 a.m. Mondays to Fridays now leaves five minutes earlier at 7:27 a.m.

GO also increased service along the route.

413 St. Robert - Thornlea high school special

Starting Monday, April 27, the bus that currently starts its trip from west side of the northern intersection of Don Mills Road and Simonston Boulevard at 7:38 a.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves five minutes later at 7:43 a.m.
