Khalsa Day Parade

The City of Mississauga is closing Morning Star Drive between Airport Road and Highway 427 and the Region of Peel is closing Airport Road (Regional Road 7), south of Morning Star Drive on Sunday afternoon to accommodate Ontario Gurdwaras Association’s annual parade.

(Parade participants march from Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara at 7280 Airport Road in Malton to the Sikh Spiritual Centre at 9 Carrier Drive in Rexdale, so this event also affects transit service in northwestern Toronto. Last year, the parade attracted more than 40,000 participants.)

Brampton Transit, GO Transit and Mississauga Transit are detouring bus service during the event. The event may also affect TTC service.

(Brampton Transit has confirmed that the parade will delay buses, but could not provide details about any detours.)

TTC
58 Malton

The TTC does not operate buses along Morning Star Drive to Westwood Terminal on Sundays and holidays.

Nevertheless, the parade starts just one block north of the Sunday and holiday terminal of the route at Airport Road and McNaughton Avenue, so the large numbers of participants in the vicinity and the traffic resulting from the closed street may delay bus service from about 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 2.

Khalsa Day Parade

On Sunday, participants in Ontario Gurdwaras Association’s Khalsa Day parade march from Sri Guru Singh Sabha at 7280 Airport Road in Malton to the Sikh Spiritual Centre at 9 Carrier Drive, east of Highway 27 in Rexdale.

(Even though various newspapers — the Brampton Guardian, the Mississauga News, the South Asian Times and others all report that participants march to the Sikh Spiritual Centre no-one — not the City of Toronto, the Toronto Police Service, Brampton Transit or the TTC — can identify the exact route.)

The event would likely disrupt transit services in the area of Humber College’s North Campus, possibly proceeding eastward from Highway 427 along Morningstar Drive, Humberwood Boulevard, Humberline Drive, Humber College Boulevard and Carrier Drive.
