Guelph Transit detours buses during Norfolk construction,
starting today



Update — January 7, 2010: Construction ended — for this year — at 3:20 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23 and all buses resumed regular service along their routes.


Update — October 11: Buses operating along the 23 Paisley / Imperial and 24 Industrial routes resumed regular service at 3:40 p.m. Friday, October 9.


Update — September 29: Guelph Transit is revising some of the detours that started yesterday, Monday, September 28.


Update — September 22: The City is re-opening the southbound lanes of Norfolk Street, south of Macdonell Street, starting Monday, September 28. On the same day, it is also closing the intersection of Norfolk with Paisley and Quebec Streets, resulting in more detours for Guelph Transit buses.


Update — September 17: The City is closing the intersection of Norfolk / Gordon Streets with Waterloo Avenue / Wilson Street for one day only as part of this project. Guelph Transit is further detouring buses today.


Update — August 18: The City is closing Fountain Street for one day only for another construction project. Guelph Transit is further detouring some of the buses that were already detouring.


Update — August 12: Guelph Transit buses return to St. George’s Square and buses resume the detours that started on Monday, June 8.


Update — July 24: During the next phase of the project, the City is closing the intersection of Norfolk Street with Paisley and Quebec Streets and relocating Guelph Transit’s downtown terminal from St. George’s Square to Woolwich Street. Guelph Transit is suspending the detours that this post originally described and setting up different detours until Monday, August 10.


Update — July 7: During the next phase of the project, the City is closing the intersection of Norfolk and Cork Streets. Guelph Transit is now detouring buses operating along the 3 Waterloo / Fife route.


Update — June 15: Buses operating along the 52 University / Kortright route now also detour around construction on College Avenue East.


The City of Guelph is reducing Norfolk Street to one lane in each direction between Paisley Street / Quebec Street and Waterloo Avenue / Wilson Street for a project to rebuild the roadway. The project will continue until October.

Guelph Transit is detouring buses during the project.


The detours affect these routes: 9 Stone Road Mall; 10 College / Niska; 51 Gordon; 52 University / Kortright; 54 Arkell, Community Bus B


54 Arkell

From 7 a.m. on Monday, June 8 until 6 p.m. on Friday, October 26, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Norfolk and Wellington Streets, then detour:

eastward along Wellington Street East;
northwestward along Woolwich Street;
southward along Baker Street; and then
eastward along Quebec Street to St. George’s Square,
ending their trips.

Outbound buses start their trips at St. George’s Square, then proceed:

southward along Wyndham Streets North and South; and then
westward along Fountain Street East to Norfolk Street,
resuming their regular route southward along Norfolk.

10 College / Niska

From 7 a.m. on Monday, June 8 until 6 p.m. on Friday, October 26, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Norfolk and Wellington Streets, then detour:

eastward along Wellington Street East;
northwestward along Woolwich Street;
southward along Baker Street; and then
eastward along Quebec Street to St. George’s Square,
ending their trips.

Outbound buses operate along their regular route.

Community Bus B

(Guelph Transit has not confirmed this detour.)

From 7 a.m. on Monday, June 8 until 6 p.m. on Friday, October 26, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Woolwich and Norfolk Streets, then detours:

southeastward along Woolwich;
westward along Macdonell Street; and then
northward along Wyndham Street North to St. George’s Square,
ending their trips.

Outbound buses operate along their regular route.

51 Gordon

From 7 a.m. on Monday, June 8 until 6 p.m. on Friday, October 26, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Wilson and Carden Streets, then detour:

northward along Wilson; and then
eastward along Macdonnell Street to Wyndham Street North,
resuming their regular route northward along Wyndham to St. George’s Square.

Outbound buses start their trips at St. George’s Square, then proceed:

southward along Wyndham Streets North and South; and then
westward along Fountain Street East to Norfolk Street,
resuming their regular route southward along Norfolk.

9 Stone Road Mall

From 7 a.m. on Monday, June 8 until 6 p.m. on Friday, October 26, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Wilson and Carden Streets, then detour:

northward along Wilson; and then
eastward along Macdonnell Street to Wyndham Street North,
resuming their regular route northward along Wyndham to St. George’s Square.

Outbound buses start their trips at St. George’s Square, then proceed:

southward along Wyndham Streets North and South;
westward along Fountain Street East; and then
northward along Norfolk Street to Waterloo Avenue / Wilson Street,
resuming their regular route westward along Waterloo.

52 University / Kortright

From 7 a.m. on Monday, June 8 until 6 p.m. on Friday, October 26, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Wilson and Carden Streets, then detour:

northward along Wilson; and then
eastward along Macdonnell Street to Wyndham Street North,
resuming their regular route northward along Wyndham to St. George’s Square.

Outbound buses start their trips at St. George’s Square, then proceed:

southward along Wyndham Streets North and South; and then
westward along Fountain Street East to Norfolk Street,
resuming their regular route southward along Norfolk.


Inbound buses operate toward downtown Guelph.

Outbound buses operate away from downtown Guelph.
