DRT celebrates Canada Day -- by raising fares

Durham Region Transit is celebrating Canada Day by raising all fares by 5 percent.

Starting Wednesday, July 1, adult cash fares increase to $2.90. You can see a list of all the new DRT fares here.

After July 1, passengers may “top up” old tickets with cash until Friday, July 31. You may top up for five cents cash on any DRT bus but GO Transit bus drivers do not accept top-up fares.

You can exchange “old” tickets from new ones from July 1 until October 31 at:

  • DRT headquarters, main floor reception, 605 Rossland Road East, Whitby: Mondays to Fridays, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
  • DRT Westney, 110 Westney Road South, Ajax: Mondays to Fridays from7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
  • The United Way Information Services kiosk, Oshawa Centre, Oshawa: Mondays to Fridays from 9:30 a.m. until 9 p.m.; Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. until 6 p.m.; Sundays 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.

To exchange old tickets, you must buy a full 10-ride card or 10 ride-ticket and pay the ‘top up’ on each remaining ticket or ride that you haven’t used.

After November 1, if you still want to exchange old tickets for new ones, write to Durham Region Transit, 605 Rossland Road East, Box 623, Whitby, ON L1N 6A3 and include your old tickets in the envelop. If approve your request to exchange the tickets, we may offer you a price that was less than the original cost of the tickets.
