Aftermath of thunderstorm:
no streetcars on Lake Shore, no buses on Cawthra

Update: 5:30 p.m. — TTC Information reports that streetcars are again operating west of Roncesvalles. Mississauga Transit Information reports that buses are not likely to return to their regular route today.

Some Transit Toronto readers are reporting that streetcars are not operating west of Roncesvalles Avenue along the 501 Queen route due to this morning’s thunderstorm.

Readers report that lightning struck a tree, which caught fire and fell onto the overhead wiring (and, possibly, a passing streetcar) on Lake Shore Boulevard West at First Street.

Other readers report that lightning may also have struck the Roncesvalles Carhouse, resulting in power outages along the line. Readers have seen streetcars stuck along the Queensway, in Humber Loop and along Lake Shore.

As of 2 p.m. today, the TTC was operating shuttle buses between Roncesvalles and Long Branch loop.

The storm also tore down hydro poles and wires in nearby southern Mississauga, including 20 to 30 poles at the intersection of Cawthra Road and Atwater Avenue, also resulting in power outages in the immediate area. Mississauga Transit buses operating along the 8 Cawthra - Indian Road route are detouring around the intersection.

Southbound buses are operating along their regular route to Cawthra and South Service Roads, then detour:

westward along South Service; and then
southward along Hurontario Street to Mineola Road,
resuming their regular route southward along Hurontario.

Northbound buses reverse this routing.
