"School's back" -- and so are some YRT high school services

Today, Thursday, August 6, students and staff return to Bill Crothers Secondary School as classes resume after their shorter summer break.

Also today, York Region Transit started operating three extra services for passengers traveling to and from the school.

416 Bill Crothers via Main Street Unionville high school special

On Thursday, August 6, YRT introduced this new route to Bill Crothers. Buses leave Carlton Road east of Main Street Unionville and proceed:

westward along Carlton; and then
southward along Main to the school, arriving in time for the start of classes.

9 Ninth Line

Starting Thursday, August 6, YRT operates an extra bus along this route. The bus leaves Parkview Village at 7:23 a.m. Mondays to Fridays and continues along the regular 9 Ninth Line route, arriving at Markham - Stouffville Hospital at 7:40 a.m.

(Since YRT interlines the bus operating along this route with the morning bus operating along the 414 Unionville - Bill Crothers route, the bus actually started its trip at Stouffville GO Station at 7:05 a.m.)

At Markham - Stouffville Hospital, passengers traveling toward Markham - Stouffville Hospital may transfer to buses operating along the 1 Highway 7 or Viva blue routes to finish their trips.

414 Unionville - Bill Crothers High School Special

Starting Thursday, August 6, YRT again operates buses along this special route for passengers traveling to and from Bill Crothers. (This is the only YRT high school special route where buses do not operate to the school itself. Instead the bus operating along this route carries passengers to and from a transfer point where passengers can connect to other YRT routes. to finish their trips.)

At 7:05 a.m. Mondays to Fridays, a bus leaves the Stouffville GO Station and proceeds:

westward along Main Street Stouffville;
northward along Ninth Line;
westward along Elm Road;
northward along Glad Park Avenue;
eastward along Millard Street and Hemlock Drive;
southward along Tenth Line;
westward along Hoover Park Drive;
northward along Ninth Line; and then
westward into Parkview Village, arriving at 7:23 a.m.

YRT interlines the bus operating along this route with a regular bus operating along the 9 Ninth Line route. At Parkview Village, the bus continues along the 9 Ninth Line route to Markham - Stouffville Hospital, arriving at where passengers heading for Bill Crothers may transfer to buses operating along the 1 Highway 7 or Viva blue routes.

In the afternoon, a bus operating along the 9 Ninth Line route ends its trip at Millard Street and Ninth Line at 4:20 p.m. Since YRT interlines this bus with the 414 Unionville / Bill Crothers high school special route, the bus continues its trip along the 414 route, by proceeding:

eastward along Millard Street and Hemlock Drive;
southward along Tenth Line; and then
westward along Hoover Park Drive to Ninth Line, ending its trip at 4:33 p.m.

YRT resumes all other extra service to high schools on Tuesday, September 8, except for the buses that serve the 424 Keswick Secondary high school special, which resume on Monday, August 31.

Transit agencies often interline buses operating on two or more routes with a common terminal to share resources — drivers and vehicles — among routes. In this case, the morning bus operating along the 414 Unionville / Bill Crothers route continues along the 9 Ninth Line route after it arrives at Parkview Village.
