Buses detour during Brampton construction,
September 8 to 11

The City of Brampton is closing part of Queen Street East every evening next week during its ongoing project to prepare the street for Acceleride, Brampton’s future bus rapid transit line.

Next week, City contractors are installing sewers overnight along Queen East between Kennedy Road and Centre Street. Brampton Transit is detouring bus services while the street is closed. Closing the street likely also affects GO Transit bus services.

After 6 p.m. from Tuesday, September 8 until Friday, September 11 and before 6 a.m. from Wednesday, September 9 until Friday, September 11, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Queen Street East and Centre Street, then detour:

northbound along Centre Street North;
eastbound along Church Street East; and then
southward along Kennedy Road North to Queen East,
resuming their regular route eastward along Queen.

Westbound buses reverse this routing.

You can see a map of the detour here. (.pdf)

35 Brampton - York Mills local via Highway 27
36A Brampton - York Mills express via Highway 427

GO has not announced detours, but buses likely operate along the same detour as Brampton Transit buses.

Transit Toronto will update this post as more information is available.

During the project to prepare Queen Street for bus rapid transit, the City is:

  • widening lanes,
  • installing more high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes,
  • upgrading utilities and regional facilities,
  • improving intersections,
  • installing new bus pads, bus bays and bus shelters,
  • landscaping the street,
  • installing traffic signals and street lights, and
  • rebuilding storm sewers and watermains.

Some Brampton Transit documents now refer to the Acceleride project with a new name — Züm — although Transit Toronto is not aware of the City officially announcing that it is rebranding the plan.
