The Ontario Ministry of Transportation has finished the Highway 407 East environmental assessment report to submit to the Minister of the Environment to approve.
The report recommends extending the 407 transportation corridor, including a highway, a transitway and other facilities, including:
- the mainline section between Brock Road in Pickering and Highways 35 and 115 in Clarington, about 50 kilometres long.
- two north-south freeway links connecting the 407 to Highway 401, one in Whitby (the “West Durham Link”) and the other in Clarington (the “East Durham Link”), each about 10 kilometres long;
- a dedicated transitway corridor paralleling the mainline and the West and East Durham Links; and
- support facilities, including two highway maintenance facilities, two transitway maintenance facilities, two commercial vehicle inspection facilities, three truck lay-bys and seventeen transitway stations.
