Strike at McMaster University affects transit services



Update — 11:15 a.m., November 2: CUPE Local 3906 did go on strike at 8 a.m. today, so the detours are in effect.


Members of the Canadian Union of Public EmployeesLocal 3906 will be in a legal strike position at 8 a.m. tomorrow, Monday, November 2.

If the local, representing teaching assistants and research assistants at McMaster University, goes on strike tomorrow, Coach Canada, GO Transit, Greyhound Canada and Hamilton Street Railway drivers will not pick up or drop off passengers on campus.

Coach Canada

Buses heading toward Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo pick up passengers at the HSR stop on Main Street West opposite Bowman Street.

Buses heading toward downtown Hamilton drop off passengers at the HSR stop on Main Street West at Emerson Avenue.

Buses skip their regular stop on President’s Drive at Westaway Road, east of Cootes Drive.

GO Transit
47 Hamilton - York U

Starting at 8 a.m. on Monday, November 2, buses leaving the Hamilton GO Centre operate along their regular route to Main Street West and Emerson Street, then detour:

southward along Emerson;
westward along Sussex Street; and then
northward along Leland Street to Main West.

The buses then resume their regular route eastward along Main, picking up passengers at the HSR stop at Main and Emerson.

Buses skip their regular stop at the McMaster University GO Bus Terminal.

Buses heading toward the Hamilton GO Centre operate along their regular route to the HSR stop on Main Street West opposite Bowman Street, where they drop off passengers.

They then proceed:

westward along Main West;
southward along Sussex Street;
northward along Leland Street,
resuming their regular route eastward along Main.

Buses skip their regular stop at the McMaster University GO Bus Terminal.

Starting at 8 a.m. on Monday, November 2, buses leaving McMaster pick up passengers at the HSR stop on Main Street West at Bowman Street.

Buses arriving at McMaster drop off passengers at the HSR stop on Main Street West opposite Emerson Street.

(Buses loop southward along Emerson, westward along Sussex Street and northward along Leland Street before returning eastward along Main Street West.)

Buses skip their regular stop at the McMaster University GO Bus Terminal.

Greyhound Canada

Buses heading toward Brantford and London pick up passengers at the HSR stop on Main Street West opposite Emerson Street.

Buses heading toward downtown Hamilton drop off passengers at the HSR stop on Main Street West at Bowman Street.

Buses skip their regular stop on President’s Drive at Westaway Road, east of Cootes Drive.

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route dropping off and picking up passengers at their regular stop at Main Street West and Emerson Street.

Buses operate along their regular route, starting and ending their trips at the front entrance of the McMaster University Medical Centre.

5E Delaware - Greenhill

Buses operate along their regular route, dropping off and picking up passengers at their regular stops on Main Street West at Emerson and Bowman Streets.

5A Delaware - Rosedale

Buses operate along their regular route to University Avenue and Forsythe Avenue South, then detour:

east- and northward along Forsythe Avenues South and North to Sterling Street,
resuming their regular route eastward along Sterling.

Buses skip their regular stops on University north of Forsythe and north of College Crescent and on Sterling Street opposite the library and at Forsythe Avenue North.

Buses serve temporary stops on Forsythe east of University and at King Street West and Sterling Street.

5 Delaware - Stoney Creek

Buses operate along their regular route, dropping off and picking up passengers at their regular stops on Main Street West opposite Emerson and Bowman Streets.

52 Dundas

Buses operate along their regular route, dropping off and picking up passengers at their regular stops on Main Street West opposite Emerson Street.

1A King

Starting at 8 a.m. on Monday, November 2, eastbound buses start their trips at the front entrance to the McMaster University Medical Centre, as usual, then proceed:

east- and northward along Forsythe Avenues South and North to Sterling Street,
resuming their regular route eastward along Sterling.

Eastbound buses skip their regular stops on University north of Forsythe and north of College Crescent and on Sterling Street opposite the library and at Forsythe Avenue North. They serve temporary stops on Forsythe east of University and at King Street West and Sterling Street.

Westbound buses reverse this routing.

Westbound buses skip their regular stops on Sterling Street at the library and on University Avenue north of College Crescent and north of Forsythe Avenue South. They serve temporary stops on Forsythe south of Sterling, at King Street West and University Avenue.

5B Main West

Buses operate along their regular route, dropping off and picking up passengers at their regular stops on Main Street West opposite Emerson Street.

51 University

Starting at 8 a.m. on Monday, November 2, eastbound buses start their trips at the front entrance to the McMaster University Medical Centre, as usual, then proceed:

east- and northward along Forsythe Avenues South and North to Sterling Street,
resuming their regular route eastward along Sterling.

Buses skip their regular stops on Sterling Street at the library and on University Avenue north of College Crescent and north of Forsythe Avenue South. They serve temporary stops on Forsythe south of Sterling, at King Street West and University Avenue.
