"On the Rocket" may not be the first show of its kind

Local 24-hour all-news TV station CP24 is promoting tonight’s “On the Rocket” talk show, featuring the chair of the Toronto Transit Commission, Councillor Adam Giambrone, as the first of its kind.

Transit Toronto reader Robert Lubinski e-mailed us to point out that, while tonight’s progam may be the first TV show airing live from a streetcar, it isn’t the first TV show that a TTC chair has hosted. Robert reminds us that former chair Jeffrey Lyons did the same sort of show on Rogers Cable 10 back in the early 1980s. TTC ads promoted the program as a chance to ask questions about the TTC, just like the new show.

Robert also tells us that, about six or seven years ago, Kerry Stratton and John Van Driel used to host a Saturday evening show on Classical 96.3 FM that they broadcast from various locations around downtown and one of those locations was on board a streetcar one night.
