Santa Claus Parades and other events — some seasonal and some not — affect transit services this weekend.

The events take place in Aurora, Cannington (Brock), Guelph, Markham, Niagara Falls, Port Perry (Scugog), St. Catharines, Streetsville (Mississauga), Toronto and Uxbridge.

YRT staff are operating the Viva holiday bus, a 40-foot Winter Wonderland float, during the parade to collect new mittens, hats and gloves from parade-goers. The Region of Durham and the Township of Brock are closing

  • Cameron Street (Regional Road 12) between Laidlaw and Prince Streets

on Saturday morning to accommodate the annual parade.

GO Transit is detouring buses during the event.

81 Beaverton / Port Perry - Whitby

From 11 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 28, north- and southbound buses operate along their regular route to Cameron and Albert Streets, then detour:

southward along Albert;
eastward along Munro Street; and then
northward along Prince Street to Cameron,
resuming their regular route westward along Cameron.

You can ride any Guelph Transit bus for free on Friday, November 27 to the Guelph Storm game against the Erie Otters at 7:30 p.m. — if you have a valid ticket to the game. You can ride free of fare to and from the Sleeman Centre on Friday evening after 5 p.m. by simply showing the Guelph Transit driver your game ticket.


Markham

The Region of York and the Town of Markham are closing

  • Bullock Drive between Main Street North Markham and Snider Drive from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.,
  • Highway 7 between Ninth Line and Main Street Markham from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.

on Sunday morning to accommodate the 5k run to support Project S.H.A.R.E.’s Christmas Basket program.

The event affects Niagara Falls Transit service.

From 10:30 a.m. until noon, on Sunday, November 29 passengers should expect delays as buses operate along Lundy’s Lane and Drummond Road South.

Port Perry

Port Perry Santa Claus Parade

on Saturday evening to accommodate the fireworks display at Nathan Phillips Square.

From 7 until 10 p.m. on Saturday, November 28, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Bay Street and Dundas Street West, then detour:

westward along Dundas West;

eastward along Adelaide Street West to Bay,
resuming their regular route southward along Bay.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops on Bay Street at Hagerman and Albert Streets, at Queen Street West, south of Richmond Street West and at Adelaide Street West.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route to Bay Street and Richmond Street West, then detour:

westward along Richmond West,
northward along University Avenue; and then
eastward along Dundas Street West to Bay,
resuming their regular route northward along Bay.

From 7 until 10 p.m. on Saturday, November 28, passengers should expect delays when streetcars pass along Queen Street West at Bay Street. A large number of people, including families with children, attend this event.


Uxbridge

Uxbridge Santa Claus Parade

The Region of Durham and the Township of Uxbridge are closing

  • Brock Streets East and West (Regional Roads 1 and 8 and Regional Highway 47) between Centre and Main Streets

on Saturday morning to accommodate the annual parade.

GO Transit is detouring buses during the event.

71 Uxbridge / Stouffville - Union

From about 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 28, Uxbridge-bound buses operate along their regular route to Toronto Street South and Elgin Park Drive, then detour:

eastward along Elgin Park;
northward along the 7th Concession Road / Main Street South; and then
westward along Mill Street to Toronto Street,
ending their trips.

Toronto-bound buses start their trips from Mill and Toronto Streets, then proceed:

along their regular route southward along Toronto Street on their regular route.

The events in Markham also affect this route.
