Barrie Transit revises routes and services, November 29



Starting this Sunday, November 29, Barrie Transit is re-instating its former 14 Eastview route and making other changes to its routes and services.


The changes affect these routes: 13 Cundles East; 14 Eastview; 18 St. Vincent; 24 Edgehill; 28 East Hanmer.


Specifically, BT is: re-instating a former route; introducing new transit service; canceling current transit service; revising a current route and adjusting the schedules of current routes.


Re-instating a former route

14 Eastview

Starting Sunday, November 29, for the first time since Sunday, August 26, 2007, Barrie Transit again operates buses along the route.

Inbound buses start their trips at Nelson Street and Grove Street East, then proceed:

westward along Grove East;
southward along Duckworth Street;
eastward along Codrington and McDonald Streets;
southward along Owen Street;
westward along Collier Street;
northward along Bayfield Street;
westward along Ross Street; and then
southward along Maple Avenue to the Downtown Barrie Transit Terminal,
ending their trips.

Outbound buses start their trips at the Downtown Barrie Transit Terminal, then proceed:

northward along Maple Avenue;
eastward along Ross Street;
southward along Bayfield Street;
eastward along Collier Street;
northward along Mulcaster Street;
eastward along Penetang and Napier Streets; and then
northward along Nelson Street to Grove Street East,
ending their trips.

Buses operating along the 14 Eastview route serve current 28 East Hanmer stops along Maple Avenue, Ross, Collier, Owen, Mulcaster and Penetang Streets.

With this change, Barrie Transit re-instates transit service westbound along Grove Street East between Nelson and Duckworth Streets. (Buses operating along the 28 East Hanmer route served the stops on Grove East in both directions from Sunday, August 26, 2007 until Saturday, June 28, 2009. It also introduces new transit service along parts of Napier and Nelson Streets.


Introducing new transit service

14 Eastview

Starting Sunday, November 29, Barrie Transit re-instates its former route and introduces new eastbound transit service along Napier Street between Duckworth and Nelson Streets and northbound service along Nelson Street between Napier Street and Grove Street North.

(Inbound buses operating along the 12 Blake route serve southbound stops along Nelson Street between Steel and Napier Streets and eastbound stops along Napier between Nelson and Puget Streets.)


Canceling current transit service

28 East Hanmer

Starting Sunday, November 29, Barrie Transit revises the route so that BT buses no longer serve southbound stops along St. Vincent Street between Bell Farm Road and Codrington Street and northbound stops along St. Vincent between Penetang Street / Napier Street and Grove Street East. Buses operating along the 18 St. Vincent route continue to serve northbound stops along St. Vincent between Grove East and Bell Farm.


Revising a current route

28 East Hanmer

Starting Sunday, November 29, Barrie Transit revises and shortens the route so that buses operate only between Georgian Mall and Georgian College’s Barrie Campus. Buses no longer operate to the Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH).

Westbound buses start their trips at Georgian College, then proceed:

west- and southward along President’s Drive;
westward along the Ring Road and Bell Farm Road;
northward along St. Vincent Street;
westward along Hanmer Street East;
southward along Bayfield Street; and then
counterclockwise through Georgian Mall terminal,
ending their trips.

Westbound buses arrive at Georgian Mall every 30 minutes on the hour and 30 minutes past the hour.

Eastbound buses reverse this routing.

Eastbound buses arrive at Georgian College every 30 minutes at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour.

Barrie Transit buses no longer serve southbound stops along Duckworth Street between Bell Farm Road and Codrington Street and northbound stops along Duckworth between Penetang Street / Napier Street and Grove Street East.

Barrie Transit buses operating along the 20 Livingstone route continue to serve westbound stops along Georgian Drive between RVH and Governor’s Drive. Buses operating along the 20 Livingstone and 22 Crosstown routes continue to serve westbound stops along Georgian Drive between Governor’s Drive and Duckworth Street, northbound stops along Duckworth between Georgian and Cundles Road East and westbound stops along Cundles Road East between Duckworth and St. Vincent Streets.

Buses operating along the 10 RvH and 22Crosstown routes continue to serve eastbound stops along Cundles Road East between St. Vincent and Duckworth Streets, southbound stops along Duckworth between Cundles East and Georgian Drive and eastbound stops along Georgian between Duckworth Street and Governor’s Drive. Buses operating along the 10 RVH route continue to serve eastbound stops along Georgian Drive between Governor’s Drive and RVH.

Also starting Sunday, November 29, Barrie Transit adjusts the schedule of the route by interlining buses operating along the route all day Sundays and holidays and Monday-to-Saturday evenings with buses operating along the 18 St. Vincent route.


Increasing service along current routes

13 Cundles East

Starting Monday, November 30, buses operating later — until midnight — Mondays to Saturdays. Barrie Transit also adjusts the schedule of the route.


Adjusting the schedules of current routes

13 Cundles East

Starting Sunday, November 29, Barrie interlines the route with buses operating along the 29 Edgehill route all day Sundays and holidays and Monday-to-Saturday evenings.

Buses operating inbound along the 13 Cundles East route leave the Downtown Barrie Transit Terminal to operate outbound along the 24 Edgehill route.

Buses operating outbound along the 13 Cundles East route arrive at the terminal inbound along the 24 Edgehill route.

Starting Monday, November 30, Barrie Transit further adjusts the schedule of the route so that buses operating on evening schedules Mondays to Saturdays from 7 p.m. until midnight.

28 East Hanmer

Starting Sunday, November 29, Barrie Transit interlines buses operating on the route with buses operating along the 18 St. Vincent route all day Sundays and holidays and Monday-to-Saturday evenings at Georgian College.

Westbound buses operating along the 28 East Hanmer route leave Georgian College to operate inbound along the 18 St. Vincent route toward the Downtown Barrie Transit Terminal.

Outbound buses operating along the 18 St. Vincent route continue eastbound along the 28 East Hanmer route when they leave Georgian College.

24 Edgehill

Starting Sunday, November 29, Barrie Transit interlines buses operating along the route with buses operating along the 13 Cundles East route all day Sundays and holidays and Monday-to-Saturday evenings.

Buses operating inbound along the 24 Edgehill route leave the Downtown Barrie Transit Terminal to operate outbound along the 13 Cundles East route.

Buses operating outbound along the 24 Edgehill route arrive at the terminal inbound along the 13 Cundles East route.

18 St. Vincent

Starting Sunday, November 29, Barrie Transit interlines buses operating along the route with buses operating along the 18 East Hanmer route.

Inbound buses operating along the 18 St. Vincent route arrived at Georgian College eastbound along the 28 East Hanmer route.

Outbound buses operating along the 18 St. Vincent route continue westbound along the 28 East Hanmer route when they leave Georgian College.


Transit agencies Interline buses operating along two or more route with a common terminal to save resources — drivers and vehicles. A bus that arrives at a terminal along one route may leave the terminal to serve stops along another route.


Inbound buses operate toward downtown.

Outbound buses operate away from downtown.
