Mississauga Transit revises routes and services, December 7



Update — January 7, 2010: Construction has ended along Bromsgrove Drive and buses operating along the 29 Park Royal and 29A Park Royal - Meadow Wood routes have resumed regular service.


Mississauga Transit is re-organizing its routes in the Clarkson and Lorne Park areas of southwest Mississauga and making other changes to its routes and services, starting Monday, December 7.


The changes affect these routes: 8 Cawthra - Indian Road; 8 Cawthra; 13 Glen Erin; 14 Lorne Park; 14A Lorne Park - Industrial; 15 Drew; 23 Lakeshore; 29 Park Royal; 29A Park Royal - Meadow Wood; 57 Courtneypark; 61 Mavis; 61A Mavis - Sheridan; 320 Cawthra Secondary - Lorne Park high school special; 328 Cawthra Secondary - Bloor high school special.


Specifially, Mississauga Transit is: introducing new routes; canceling current routes; introducing a new branch of a current route; extending current routes; increasing the frequency of service; decreasing the frequency of service; and adjusting the schedules of current routes.


Introducing new routes


8 Cawthra

Starting Monday, December 7, MT splits the current 8 Cawthra - Indian Road route into two. Buses operating along the new 8 Cawthra route serve all current route 8 stops east and north of Port Credit GO Station. Buses operating along the new 14 Lorne Park and 14A Lorne Park - Industrial routes serve all current route 8 stops west of Port Credit GO Station.

Southbound buses start their trips at the Mississauga City Centre Terminal at Square One, then proceed:

westward along Rathburn Road West;
southward along Duke of York Boulevard;
eastward along City Centre Drive;
southward along Kariya Gate and Kariya Drive;
eastward along Elm Drives West and East;
north- and eastward along Mississauga Valley Boulevard;
southward along Central Parkway East;
eastward along Bloor Street;
southward along Cawthra Road;
westward along Atwater Avenue;
northward along Mineola Gardens;
westward along Mineola Road East;
southward along Hurontario Street;
westward along Lakeshore Road East;
northward along Ann Street; and then
eastward along Queen Street East to Port Credit GO Station,
ending their trips.

Mondays to Fridays at all times except during rush hours and all day Saturdays, buses operating southward along Cawthra Road turn eastward into the Cawthra Seniors Centre to drop off and pick up passengers. They then resume their route southward along Cawthra.

Northbound buses start their trips at Port Credit GO Station, then proceed;

westward along Queen Street East;
southward along Elizabeth Street North;
eastward along Lakeshore Road East;
northward along Hurontario Street;
eastward along Mineola Road East;
southward along Mineola Gardens;
eastward along Atwater Avenue;
northward along Cawthra Road;
westward along Bloor Street;
northward along Central Parkway East;
west- and southward along Mississauga Valley Boulevard;
westward along Elm Drives East and West;
northward along Kariya Drive and Kariya Gate;
westward along City Centre Drive;
northward along Duke of York Boulevard;
eastward along Rathburn Road West; and then
southward into the City Centre Terminal.

Northbound buses continue to detour at Kariya Gate and City Centre Drive.

Mondays to Fridays at all times except during rush hours and all day Saturdays, buses operating northward along Cawthra Road turn eastward into the Cawthra Seniors Centre to drop off and pick up passengers. They then resume their route northward along Cawthra.

For all stops along the route, MT is increasing the frequency of service to every 20 minutes Mondays to Fridays during rush hours and to every 25 minutes from about 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. On Saturdays, MT continues to operate buses every hour along the route. Also on Saturdays, it interlines buses operating along the route with buses operating along the 14 Lorne Park route on Saturdays so that passengers don’t have to change buses at Port Credit GO Station.

MT currently equips all buses operating along the 8 Cawthra - Indian Road route with with ramps and two areas on each bus where passengers can secure wheelchairs or scooters. Buses operating along the new route will also be accessible.

320 Cawthra Secondary - Lorne Park high school special

Starting Monday, December 7, MT operates a new route for passengers traveling from Cawthra Park and Lorne Park Secondary Schools. Buses operating along the new route add extra westbound service to the buses that operate along the new 14 Lorne Park route when large numbers of passengers from Lorne Park Secondary School are traveling by bus.

The bus leaves Cawthra Park at 3:11 p.m. Mondays to Fridays, then proceeds:

westward along Atwater Avenue;
northward along Mineola Gardens;
westward along Mineola Road East;
southward along Hurontario Street;
westward along Lakeshore Road East;
northward along Ann Street;
westward along Queen Street East,
dropping off and picking up passengers at Port Credit GO Station at 3:23 p.m.;
continuing westward along Queen East;
southward along Elizabeth Street North;
westward along Lakeshore Roads East and West;
north- and westward along Front Street North;
northward along Mississauga Road;
westward along Indian Road;
southward along Lorne Park Road,
dropping off and picking up passengers at Lorne Park Secondary School at about 3:35 p.m.;
continuing westward along Truscott Drive; and then
southward along Southdown Road to Clarkson GO Station,
ending its trip at 3:45 p.m.

14 Lorne Park

Starting Monday, December 7, MT splits the current 8 Cawthra - Indian Road route into two. Buses operating along the new 14 Lorne Park and 14A Lorne Park - Industrial routes serve all current route 8 stops west of Port Credit GO Station. Buses operating along the new 8 Cawthra route serve all current route 8 stops east and north of Port Credit GO Station.

(MT operated buses along a similar route with the number 14 in the 1980s.)

Eastbound buses start their trips at Clarkson GO Station, then proceed:

northward along Southdown Road;
eastward along Truscott Drive;
northward along Lorne Park Road;
eastward along Indian Road;
southward along Mississauga Road;
eastward along Lakeshore Roads West and East;
northward along Ann Street; and then
westward along Queen Street East to Port Credit GO Station,
ending their trips.

Westbound buses start their trips at Port Credit GO Station, then proceed:

westward along Queen Street East;
southward along Elizabeth Street North;
westward along Lakeshore Roads East and West;
north- and westward along Front Street North;
northward along Mississauga Road;
westward along Indian Road;
southward along Lorne Park Road;
westward along Truscott Drive;
southward along Southdown Road; and then
westward into Clarkson GO Station terminal.

MT decreases the frequency of service so that buses operate every 45 minutes from about 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. and from 7 until 10:30 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. They also operate every hour from about 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturdays. On Saturdays, MT interlines buses operating along the route with buses operating along the new 8 Cawthra route so that passengers don’t have to change buses at Port Credit GO Station.

Mondays to Fridays during rush hours, MT buses operating along the new 14A Lorne Park - Industrial route serve all stops that buses operating along the main 14 Lorne Park route serve at other times of the week.

MT currently equips all buses operating along the 8 Cawthra - Indian Road route with with ramps and two areas on each bus where passengers can secure wheelchairs or scooters. Buses operating along the new route will also be accessible.

14A Lorne Park - Industrial

Starting Monday, December 7, MT splits the current 8 Cawthra - Indian Road route into two. Buses operating along the new 14 Lorne Park and 14A Lorne Park - Industrial** routes serve all current route 8 stops west of Port Credit GO Station. Buses operating along the new 8 Cawthra route serve all current route 8 stops east and north of Port Credit GO Station.

(MT operated buses along a similar route with the number 14 in the 1980s.)

Eastbound buses start their trips at Clarkson GO Station, then proceed:

northward along Southdown Road;
eastward along Truscott Drive;
northward along Lorne Park Road;
eastward along Indian Road;
southward along Mississauga Road;
eastward along Lakeshore Roads West and East;
northward along Ann Street; and then
westward along Queen Street East to Port Credit GO Station,
ending their trips.

Mondays to Fridays only during rush hours, westbound buses start their trips at Port Credit GO Station, then proceed:

westward along Queen Street East;
southward along Elizabeth Street North;
westward along Lakeshore Roads East and West;
north- and westward along Front Street North;
northward along Mississauga Road;
westward along Indian Road;
southward along Lorne Park Road;
westward along Truscott Drive;
southward along Southdown Road; and then
westward into Clarkson GO Station terminal; then continue
southward along Southdown Road;
westward along Lakeshore Road West;
northward along Winston Churchill Boulevard;
eastward along Royal Windsor Drive;
northward along Southdown Road; and then
westward into Clarkson GO Station,
ending their trips.

Buses serve all current 37A Clarkson Shuttle - Royal Windsor stops on Southdown Road between Royal Windsor Drive and Lakeshore Road West, on Lakeshore West between Southdown Road and Winston Churchill Boulevard, on Winston Churchill and on Royal Windsor.

MT decreases the frequency of service for current route 8 stops west of Port Credit Station to every 35 minutes Mondays to Fridays during rush hours.

Buses operate along this branch of the route Mondays to Fridays only during rush hours. At all other times of the week, buses operate only between Clarkson and Port Credit GO Stations along the 14 Lorne Park route.

MT currently equips all buses operating along the 8 Cawthra - Indian Road route with with ramps and two areas on each bus where passengers can secure wheelchairs or scooters. Buses operating along the new route will also be accessible.

Canceling current routes


8 Cawthra - Indian Road

Saturday, December 5 is the last day that MT operates buses along the route.

Starting Monday, December 7, MT splits the route into two. Buses operating along the new 8 Cawthra route serve all current route 8 stops east and north of Port Credit GO Station. Buses operating along the new 14 Lorne Park and 14A Lorne Park - Industrial routes serve all current route 8 stops west of Port Credit GO Station.

MT currently equips all buses operating along the 8 Cawthra - Indian Road route with with ramps and two areas on each bus where passengers can secure wheelchairs or scooters. Buses operating along the new routes will also be accessible.

37 Clarkson shuttle

Friday, December 4 is the last day that MT operates buses along the route.

Starting Monday, December 7, MT operates buses one Monday-to-Friday morning and one Monday-to-Friday afternoon trip along the new 29A Park Royal - Meadow Wood branch to serve current route 37 stops along Meadow Wood Road, Bob-o-link Road, Country Club Crescent and Orr Road between Meadow Wood Road and Inverhouse Drive.

With this change, MT decreases the frequency of transit service along Meadow Wood Road, Bob-o-Link Drive, Country Club Crescent and Orr Road between Meadow Wood and Inverhouse Drive from about every 40 minutes Mondays to Fridays only during rush hours to just two trips Mondays to Fridays.

37A Clarkson - Royal Windsor shuttle

Friday, December 4 is the last day that MT operates buses along the route.

Starting Monday, December 7, MT operates buses along the new 14 Lorne Park - Industrial route to serve current route 37A stops on Southdown Road between Royal Windsor Drive and Lakeshore Road East, on Lakeshore East between Southdown and Winston Churchill Boulevard, on Winston Churchill and on Royal Windsor, Mondays to Fridays only during rush hours.

Introducing a new branch of a current route


29A Park Royal - Meadow Wood

Starting Monday, December 7, MT extends the trips of two Monday-to-Friday buses to serve current 37 Clarkson shuttle stops in the Rattray Park area of south Clarkson.


Extending current routes


328 Cawthra Secondary - Bloor high school special

Starting Monday, December 7, MT extends the bus that currently starts its trip at Cawthra Park Secondary School at 3:04 p.m. Mondays to Fridays to serve passengers traveling from Lorne Park Secondary School, and to and from Port Credit GO Station.

The bus starts its trip from Truscott and Davebrook Drives at 2:44 p.m. Mondays to Fridays, then proceeds:

eastward along Truscott, picking up passengers at Lorne Park Secondary School at 2:50 p.m., then continuing:
northward along Lorne Park Road;
eastward along Indian Road;
southward along Mississauga Road;
eastward along Lakeshore Roads West and East;
northward along Ann Street;
westward along Queen Street East
(dropping off and picking up passengers from Port Credit GO Station at 3:05 p.m.)
southward along Elizabeth Street North;
eastward along Lakeshore East;
northward along Hurontario Street;
eastward along Mineola Road East;
southward along Mineola Gardens; and then
eastward along Atwater Avenue, arriving at Cawthra Park Secondary School at 3:04 p.m.

The bus then continues its regular route, arriving at the City Centre Terminal at Square One at 3:40 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.

29A Park Royal - Meadow Wood

Starting Monday, December 7, MT extends two Monday-to-Friday buses to serve current 37 Clarkson shuttle stops in the Rattray Park area of south Clarkson.

Starting Monday, December 7, a southbound bus leaves the Erin Mills Town Centre terminal at 7:08 a.m. Mondays to Fridays, arrives at Clarkson GO Station at 7:52 a.m. and then continues southward to Rattray Park. The buses operate along the regular 29 Park Royal route to Lakeshore Road West and Inverhouse Drive, then proceeds:

eastward along Lakeshore Road West;
southward along Meadow Wood Road and Bob-o-link Drive;
westward along Country Club Crescent
(arriving at Country Club and Meadow Wood at 8:01 a.m.)
northward along Meadow Wood;
westward along Orr Road;
northward along Southdown; and then
westward into Clarkson GO Station terminal,
ending its trip at 8:09 a.m.

Similarly, a southbound bus leaves Erin Mills Town Centre terminal at 2:55 p.m. Mondays to Fridays, arrives at Clarkson GO Station at 3:39 p.m., continues to Country Club Crescent and Meadow Wood Road at 3:48 p.m. and returns to Clarkson GO Station at 3:56 p.m.

Buses operating along these two trips do not serve regular southbound route 29 stops on Inverhouse Drive.

With this change, MT decreases the frequency of transit service along Meadow Wood Road, Bob-o-Link Drive, Country Club Crescent and Orr Road between Meadow Wood and Inverhouse Drive from about every 40 minutes Mondays to Fridays only during rush hours to just two trips Mondays to Fridays.

Buses on the route continue to detour off Bromsgrove Drive west of Southdown Road.

Increasing the frequency of service along current routes


8 Cawthra

Starting Monday, December 7, MT increases the frequency of service to current 8 Cawthra - Indian Road stops east and north of Port Credit GO Station Mondays to Fridays. During rush hours, buses operating along the new 8 Cawthra route drop off and pick up passengers every 20 minutes instead of every 20 to 30 minutes. From about 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m., buses pick up and drop off passengers about every 25 minutes instead of every 30 minutes.

29 Park Royal

Starting Monday, December 7, MT increases the frequency of service Monday-to-Friday midday. Buses operate along the route every 24 minutes instead of every 33 minutes from about 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.

MT is also adjusting the schedule of the route during rush hours.

Buses on the route continue to detour off Bromsgrove Drive west of Southdown Road.


Decreasing the frequency of service along current routes


8 Cawthra - Indian Road

By splitting the current route 8 into two, MT is decreasing the frequency of service to stops west of Port Credit GO Station from every 20 to 30 minutes to every 35 minutes Mondays to Fridays during rush hours and from every 30 minutes to every 45 minutes from about 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. and after 7 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.

37 Clarkson shuttle

With fewer passengers using transit services in the Rattray Park area, starting Monday, December 7, MT is decreasing the frequency of transit service along Meadow Wood Road, Bob-o-Link Drive, Country Club Crescent and Orr Road between Meadow Wood and Inverhouse Drive from about every 40 minutes Mondays to Fridays only during rush hours to just two trips Mondays to Fridays.

MT identified this service as one of several to cut so that it could meet its 2009 budget.

14 Lorne Park
14A Lorne Park - Industrial

By splitting the current 8 Cawthra - Indian Road route into two, MT is decreasing the frequency of service to stops west of Port Credit GO Station from every 20 to 30 minutes to every 35 minutes Mondays to Fridays during rush hours and from every 30 minutes to every 45 minutes from about 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. and after 7 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.

29A Park Royal - Meadow Wood

Adjusting the schedules of current routes


57 Courtneypark

Starting Monday, December 7, MT is adjusting the schedule so that the northbound bus that currently leaves Courtneypark Drive and Hurontario Street at 3:58 p.m. Mondays to Fridays, instead leaves from m northbound trip from Hurontario the Airport Infield Loop at 3:55 p.m.

15 Drew

Starting Monday, December 7, MT is adjusting the schedule so that the eastbound bus that leaves Longside and Maritz Drives at 10:25 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves five minutes later at 10:30 p.m. The westbound bus that currently leaves Westwood Terminal at 9:50 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves five minutes later at 9:55 p.m.

13 Glen Erin

Starting Monday, December 7, the southbound bus that leaves Meadowvale Town Centre Terminal at 5:06 a.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves two minutes earlier at 5:04 a.m. The earlier trip allows passengers more time to connect with an eastbound bus operating along the 201 Dundas express route.

23 Lakeshore

To improve connections with GO Transit trains operating along the 01 Lakeshore West line, starting Monday, December 7, MT adjusts the schedule so that the eastbound bus leaving Clarkson GO Station at 9:18 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves two minutes later at 9:20 p.m. The eastbound bus that currently leaves Clarkson GO Station at 10:52 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves 18 minutes later from Port Credit GO Station at 11:10 p.m.

61 Mavis

Starting Monday, December 7, MT is adjusting the schedule so that the southbound bus that currently leaves Financial Drive and Syntex Court at 11:58 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves seven minutes later at 12:05 a.m. Tuesdays to Saturdays.

61A Mavis - Sheridan

Starting Monday, December 7, MT is adjusting the schedule so that the southbound bus that currently leaves Sheridan College’s Davis Campus at 7:36 a.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves three minutes earlier at 7:33 a.m. The bus arrives at all stops three minutes earlier than currently and allows passengers more time to connect with GO Transit’s 21 Milton train at Cooksville Station.

29 Park Royal

Starting Monday, December 7, MT adjusts the schedule Mondays to Fridays during rush hours.

The southbound bus that currently leaves Erin Mills Town Centre terminal at 7:11 a.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves three minutes earlier at 7:08 a.m. The bus operates along the new 29A Park Royal - Meadow Wood branch.

The southbound bus that currently leaves Erin Mills Town Centre terminal at 2:58 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves three minutes earlier at 2:55 p.m. The bus operates along the new 29A Park Royal - Meadow Wood branch.

Buses on the route continue to detour off Bromsgrove Drive west of Southdown Road.


Transit agencies often interline two or more routes that share a common terminal to use resources — operators and vehicles — more efficiently. In this case, on Saturdays an eastbound bus operating along the 14 Lorne Park route arrives at Port Credit GO Station, then continues northward along the 8 Cawthra route. A southbound bus operating alng the 8 Cawthra route arrives at Port Credit, then continues westbound along the 14 Lorne Park route.
