Revised transit service in Brampton and Waterloo Region,
December 21 to 31



During the two weeks before Christmas, people travel less often by transit. Students are off and many people take vacation days to enjoy the holidays.

With fewer passengers, two local transit systems are reducing and revising their services to save on resources — drivers and vehicles. Brampton Transit is reducing its Monday-to-Friday rush-hour service and Grand River Transit is reducing its services during Monday-to-Friday rush hours and other times of the week.

The changes affect these routes:

Brampton Transit1A Queen, 5 Bovaird, 11 Steeles, 15A Bramalea, 52 McMurchy, 92 Bramalea GO shuttle.

Grand River TransitiXpress, 3 Ottawa South, 7 Mainline; 9 Lakeshore, 11 Country Hills, 12 Conestoga Mall - Fairview Mall, 13 Laurelwood, 17 Heritage Park, 20 Victoria Hills, 25 Queen South, 61 Cambridge Centre - Conestoga College, 110 Fairview Park - Conestoga College express, 111 Ainslie St. - Conestoga College express, 116 Forest Glen - Conestoga College express.


Brampton Transit


On December 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31, Brampton Transit is reducing service on three regular routes and canceling service along a branch of another route during rush hours.

5 Bovaird

On December 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31, BT is decreasing the Monday-to-Friday rush-hour frequency of service from every 12 minutes to every 15 minutes.

15A Bramalea
92 Bramalea GO shuttle

On Thursdays December 24 and 31, Brampton Transit support GO Transit’s “early homebound” rush-hour by scheduling earlier buses on these routes operating from Bramalea GO Station. Buses will meet earlier GO trains operating along the 31 Georgetown line.

1A Queen

On December 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31, BT does not operate buses along this branch. (Usually buses, operating along this branch provide extra service along the main route between the Downtown Brampton and the Bramalea Transit Terminals.)

52 McMurchy

On December 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31, BT is decreasing the Monday-to-Friday rush-hour frequency of service from every 15 minutes to every 12 minutes.

11 Steeles

On December 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31, BT is decreasing the Monday-to-Friday rush-hour frequency of service from every 6 minutes to every 7½ minutes.


On Thursday, December 24 (Christmas Eve) and Thursday, December 31 (New Year’s Eve), Brampton Transit revises its rush-hour services further. Many transit agencies in the Greater Toronto Area operate an “early-homeward”rush-hour service starting around noon and ending earlier in the evening.


On December 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31, Brampton Transit does not operate buses along high school special routes.


Brampton Transit buses operate on Sunday / holiday schedules on Christmas, Friday, December 25, Saturday schedules on Boxing Day, Saturday, December 26 and Sunday / holiday schedules on New Year’s Day, Friday, January 1, 2010.


Grand River Transit


On December 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31, GRT is reducing service on several routes and revising services on other at various times of the week.

111 Ainslie St. - Conestoga College express

No service on December 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 28, 29, 30 and 31 or January 1, 2010. Regular service resumes on Monday, January 4, 2010.

61 Cambridge Centre - Conestoga College express

On December 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31, GRT is not operating buses along the route from about 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Buses operate every 30 minutes Mondays to Fridays only during rush hours. Regular service resumes on Monday, January 4, 2010.

12 Conestoga Mall / Fairview Mall

On December 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31, GRT is not operating east- and westbound short-turn buses between Highland Hills Mall and University Avenue East at Lincoln Road from about 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Mondays to Fridays or Monday-to-Friday evenings. Buses operate along the entire route every 30 minutes Mondays to Fridays. Southbound buses start operating from Conestoga Mall at 5:45 a.m. Northbound buses start operating from Fairview Mall at 6 a.m. Regular service resumes on Monday, January 4, 2010.

11 Country Hills

On December 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31, GRT is reducing the Monday-to-Friday rush-hour frequency from every 15 minutes to every 30 minutes. Buses leave the Charles Street Terminal every 30 minutes all day, starting at 6:15 a.m. Buses leave Forest Glen Plaza all day, starting at 5:45 a.m.

GRT also adjusts the schedule to add two westbound buses leaving the Charles Street Terminal at 7:15 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. The eastbound bus that leaves Forest Glen Terminal at 3:15 p.m. arrives at the Charles Street Terminal five minutes earlier than formerly at 3:41 p.m.

Regular service resumes on Monday, January 4, 2010.

110 Fairview Park - Conestoga College express

No service on December 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 28, 29, 30 and 31 or January 1, 2010. Regular service resumes on Monday, January 4, 2010.

116 Forest Glen - Conestoga College express

No service on December 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 28, 29, 30 and 31 or January 1, 2010. Buses operate Monday-to-Friday afternoons only, from Monday, January 4 until Monday, January 11, 2010.

17 Heritage Park

On December 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31, GRT does not operate the southbound bus that leaves Lackner Boulevard and Victoria Street North at 7:25 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. Buses leave Fairview Mall every hour, starting at 6:30 a.m. Regular service resumes on Monday, January 4, 2010.

51 Hespeler Rd.

On December 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31, GRT is reducing the Monday-to-Friday morning rush-hour frequency from every 15 minutes to every 30 minutes. Buses leave the Hespeler Terminal every 30 minutes, starting at 6:12 a.m. Buses leave the Ainslie Street Terminal every 30 minutes at 6:15 a.m. After about 9:30 a.m., buses operate every 15 minutes all day. Regular service resumes on Monday, January 4, 2010.

iXpress

On December 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31, GRT does not operate the northbound bus that leaves the Charles Street Terminal at 7:40 a.m. Mondays to Fridays and arrives at the William R. Davis Computer Centre at the University of Waterloo at 8:10 a.m. Regular service resumes on Monday, January 4.

9 Lakeshore

On December 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31, GRT is reducing the Monday-to-Friday rush-hour frequency from every 15 minutes to every 30 minutes. Buses leave the University of Waterloo about every 30 minutes all day, starting at 6:01 a.m. Buses leave Conestoga Mall about every 30 minutes all day, starting at 5:40 a.m.

The westbound bus that usually leaves Conestoga Mall at 3:15 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves three minutes later at 3:18 p.m.

Regular service resumes on Monday, January 4, 2010.

13 Laurelwood

On December 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31, GRT is reducing the Monday-to-Friday rush-hour frequency from every 15 minutes to every 30 minutes. Buses leave the William G. Davis Computer Centre at the University of Waterloo every 30 minutes, starting at 6:10 a.m. Regular service resumes on Monday, January 4, 2010.

7 Mainline

On December 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31, GRT does not operate the northbound bus that leaves the Charles Street Terminal at 8 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. The bus usually operates along Columbia Street West, arriving at the Ring Road and Columbia Street West on the University of Waterloo campus at 8:25 a.m. It also doesn’t operate southbound bus that leaves Uptown Waterloo at the Waterloo Towne Square at 2:20 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. The bus usually operates along Connaught Street and arrives at Fairview Mall at 2:57 p.m. Regular service resumes on Monday, January 4, 2010.

3 Ottawa South

On December 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31, GRT is reducing the Monday-to-Friday rush-hour frequency from every 15 minutes to every 30 minutes. Buses leave the Charles Street Terminal every 30 minutes all day, starting at 6:15 a.m. Buses leave Forest Glen Plaza every 30 minutes all day, starting at 6:15 a.m. Regular service resumes on Monday, January 4, 2010.

25 Queen South

On December 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31, GRT is reducing the Monday-to-Friday rush-hour frequency from every 15 minutes to every 30 minutes. Buses leave Charles Street Terminal every 30 minutes all day, starting at 6:45 a.m. Buses leave Westheights and McGarry Drives every 30 minutes all day, starting at 6:19 a.m. Regular service resumes on Monday, January 4, 2010.

20 Victoria Hills

On December 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31, the inbound bus that usually starts its trip at Victoria Street South and Hazelglen Drives at 8:24 a.m. Mondays to Fridays instead starts its trip at Hazelglen and Ingleside Drives at 8:26 a.m.GRT operates a extra outbound bus leaving the Charles Street Terminal at 8:15 a.m. Mondays to Fridays and ending its trip at Hazelglen and Ingleside Drives at 8:26 a.m. Regular service resumes on Monday, January 4.


On December 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31, GRT also does not operate buses along high school special routes.


GRT buses operate on special schedules on Christmas, Friday, December 25, Sunday schedules on Boxing Day, Saturday, December 26 and Sunday schedules on New Year’s Day, Friday, January 1, 2010.
