Brampton

Züm

The City of Brampton and the Region of Peel are proceeding with building Brampton’s first bus rapid transit line — Züm — along Queen Street East. They expect to have the service up and running by September, so passengers traveling on Brampton Transit, GO Transit and York Region Transit buses operating along Queen Street East should expect lots of changes to their rides throughout the spring, summer and early fall.

The City is responsible for building two sections of the line along Queen Street:

  • Centre Street to Highway 410; and
  • Highway 410 to Gateway Boulevard.

The Region is co-ordinating a third section:

  • Airport Road to Highway 50.

Work between Centre Street and Highway 410 includes rebuilding and widening the roadway and installing a high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane between Kennedy Road and Highway 410. The City will add bus rapid transit (BRT) infrastructure at three major intersections - Centre Street, Kennedy Road and Rutherford Road. BRT infrastructure includes:

  • queue jump lanes — to allow buses to leave signals ahead of all other traffic
  • bus bays; and
  • “station-type” bus stops. (The stops will vary in size and include spacious, heated waiting areas, better lighting, security cameras and comfortable seating. Each station stop will also feature digital signs that list real-time information so you can track when your next bus is coming, route maps and information boards.)

Between Highway 410 and Gateway Boulevard, the City will rebuild the roadways and install BRT infrastructure at six intersections: West Drive, Dixie Road, Bramalea Road, Glenvale Boulevard / Finchgate Boulevard, Torbram Road and Gateway Boulevard / Chrysler Drive.

The City will also rebuild and relocate the Bramalea Transit Centre from its current site off Clark Drive, south of the Bramalea Town Centre mall, to beside Queen Street, north of the mall.
