Viva
The Region of York is continuing with its plan to build bus rapidways along Highway 7, Yonge Street and Davis Drive during the next few years. The region will build upon its current infrastructure along the roadways to set up more formal busways with bus rapid transit (BRT) infrastructure.
BRT infrastructure includes:
- median, “bus-only”, lanes with “queue-jumping” — to allow buses to leave signals ahead of all other traffic; and
- “station-type” bus stops.
In 2010, the Region also is proceeding to build these Viva projects in Markham that, in turn, will affect GO Transit and York Region Transit services:
- finish building the bus rapidway and canopy for the Enterprise Civic Mall — north of Enterprise Boulevard between Warden Avenue and Unionville GO Station; and

It is starting by building bus-only lanes in the median along Rathburn Roads West and East between Duke of York Boulevard and Shipp Drive.
Work on a second part of the project also starts this year, as the City improves the interchange of Mavis Road and Highway 403 to improve bus access from the bus-only shoulder lanes along the Highway to Mavis and to City View Drive.
You can learn more about the Mississauga busway project here.

2010 is the year that will see the end of this project.

Expect work to start later this year. (The TTC has not publicly explained where this first work will take place.)
The TTC will use borers to dig the tunnels, although some “cut-and-cover” work — meaning that the contractors dig trenches, then cover the trenches while work continues underground — may also occur, especially near the future stations.
