DRT detours buses in Whitby (again)

Starting Monday, March 15, the Town of Whitby is closing

  • Burns Street East between Denison and Hopkins Streets

during a project to rebuild the roadway.

Durham Region Transit is detouring buses while the street is closed.

304 Anderson

Southbound buses usually operate along their regular route.

From time to time, however, when the construction on Burns Street East blocks the intersection with Denison Street, buses operate along their regular route to Anderson Street and Dundas Street East, then detour:

southward along Hopkins Street; and then
westward along Consumers Drive to Garden Street South,
resuming their regular route westward along Consumers.

Starting Monday, March 15 until about Wednesday, June 30, northbound buses operate along their regular route to Hopkins Street and Burns Street East, then detour:

northward along Hopkins to Dundas Street East (Regional Highway 2),
resuming their regular route northward along Anderson Street.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops on Burns Street East, Denison and Harding Streets, Lupin Drive and Dundas Street East. During the detour, they drop off and pick up passengers at a temporary stop on Hopkins Street north of Burns East.

This project and related projects in the area of Burns and Hopkins Streets have required DRT to detour buses operating along the route at various times since Monday, September 22, 2008. Last year, DRT detoured buses off Burns Street East during Town projects to rebuild parts of the roadway and also install watermains from Monday, July 13 until Friday, September 25 and from Monday, October 19 until Friday, December 4, 2009.
