Shopping cart disrupts GO trains today

Update — 6:34 p.m.: Regular service has resumed.

A single shopping cart on the train tracks is causing problems for commuters heading homeward this evening along GO Transit’s 01 Lakeshore West trains.

The westbound train that left Union Station for Aldershot at 2:43 p.m. hit the cart on the tracks near Port Credit GO Station. GO canceled that train at Port Credit, picked up the passengers from Port Credit on the next train — it left Union at 3:15 for Burlington. GO buses ferried the passengers between Burlington and Aldershot GO Stations.

This fairly minor collision continues to disrupt service in both directions along the line. The eastbound train that usually leaves Aldershot at 4:04 p.m., instead started its trip at Burlington, with GO buses picking up the Aldershot passengers, and is already 29 minutes late because of the damage from the shopping cart collision.

Passengers should expect delays and plan on adding extra time to their trips.
