YRT revises services, April 25



York Region Transit is decreasing service along many of its routes, starting Sunday, April 25.

Among many other changes, it’s also canceling regular transit service and replacing regular routes with “dial-a-ride” service in Aurora, Markham, Oak Ridges and Unionville during certain times of the week.

YRT is also replacing all TTC service along Don Mills Road and Leslie Street north of Steeles Avenue East.


The changes affect these routes: 1 Highway 7, 2 Milliken, 5 Clark, 7 Martin Grove, 9 Ninth Line, 10 York U - Woodbridge, 11 Woodbridge, 12 Pine Valley, 13 Islington, 15 Stouffville local, 18 Bur Oak, 20 Jane - Concord, 22 King City, 23 Thornhill Woods, 27 Highway 27, 32 Aurora South, 34 Industrial Parkway, 40 Unionville local, 41 Markham local, 42 Berczy South Unionville, 45 Mingay, 53 Woodspring - Clearmeadow, 55 Davis Drive, 84A / 84C Oak Ridges, 90B Leslie South, 91 Bayview South, 98 Yonge North, 99 Yonge South, 202 Unionville GO shuttle, 223 Newmarket GO shuttle, 243 Redstone GO shuttle, 300 Business express.


Specifically, YRT is: introducing a new branch of a current route; introducing new “dial-a-ride” service along current routes; increasing service along a current route; decreasing service along current routes; increasing the frequency of service along a current route; decreasing the frequency of service along current routes; revising current routes; resuming seasonal service along a current route; decreasing service to a university along a current route; adjusting the schedules of current routes; and making other changes to current routes.


Introducing a new branch of a current route


90B Leslie South

Starting Monday, May 10, YRT buses replace the current TTC buses operating along the 25D Don Mills route into the Commerce Valley and Beaver Creek business areas.

Buses operate along the new 90B branch about every 30 minutes Mondays to Fridays between 16th Avenue and Don Mills Station. (TTC buses currently operate along the 25D Don Mills route about every 22 minutes during rush hours, about every 36 minutes from about 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. and about every 40 minutes from 8 until 11 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.)

YRT buses operate along the new branch later in the evening than the current TTC service and also operate further north into the new business area north of 16th Avenue.

Southbound buses start their trips at Brodie Drive and Orlando Avenue, then proceed:
westward along Orlando;
southward along Leslie Street;
west- and southward along West Beaver Creek Road;
eastward along Highway 7;
southward along Leslie Street and Don Mills Road;
east- and southward along Fairview Mall Road;
westward along Sheppard Avenue East and into Don Mills Station bus terminal,
ending their trips.

South of Steeles Avenue East, southbound buses drop off passengers only at TTC or YRT stops. Buses do not pick up passengers south of Steeles.

Northbound buses start their trips at Don Mills Station, then proceed:

northward along Don Mills Road and Leslie Street;
east- and northward along Commerce Valley Drive East;
north- and westward along West Beaver Creek Drive;
north-, east- and northward along Mural Street;
northward along Vogel Road;
east- and northward along Brodie Road to Orlando Avenue,
ending their trips.

South of Steeles Avenue East, northbound buses pick up passengers only at TTC or YRT stops. Wave at the bus, if you want the driver to stop to pick you up. Buses do not drop off passengers south of Steeles.

Introducing new “dial-a-ride” service along current routes


32 Aurora South

Fewer passengers are riding buses operating along the route except Mondays to Fridays during rush hours, so YRT is replacing regular transit service with “dial-a-ride” service at other times of the week.

Dial-a-ride buses serve passengers wanting to travel along the route from 9:20 a.m. until 2:40 p.m. and 7 until 10:20 p.m. Mondays to Fridays and from 7:50 a.m. until 7:08 p.m. Saturdays.

During these periods, call 1-800-899-1621 30 minutes before your trip to book a ride from any regular route 32 stop.

YRT has hired Care Accessible Vans to provide this service. A Care Accessible van with YRT markings will pick you up at your stop. You can ask the driver to drop you off at any other route 32 bus stop. Since dial-a-ride is not a door-to-door service, the buses won’t pick you up or drop you off at your home or anywhere outside of the route 32 service area.

You pay regular YRT fares for dial-a-ride service. Ask the driver of the dial-a-ride van to give you a YRT transfer ticket if you want to transfer to another YRT or Viva bus during your trip.

YRT is also increasing the frequency of regular transit service along the route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours.

41 Markham local

Fewer passengers are riding buses operating along the route except during the daytime Mondays to Sundays, so YRT is replacing regular transit service with “dial-a-ride” service at other times of the week.

Dial-a-ride buses serve passengers wanting to travel along the route from 7:40 p.m. until 11:10 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays.

During these periods, call 1-800-899-1621 30 minutes before your trip to book a ride from any regular route 41 stop.

YRT has hired Care Accessible Vans to provide this service. A Care Accessible van with YRT markings will pick you up at your stop. You can ask the driver to drop you off at any other route 41 bus stop. Since dial-a-ride is not a door-to-door service, the buses won’t pick you up or drop you off at your home or anywhere outside of the route 41 service area.

Dial-a-ride buses serve passengers wanting to travel along the route from 9:20 a.m. until 2 p.m. and from 6:20 until 8:20 p.m. Mondays to Fridays and from 7:30 a.m. until 8:08 p.m. Saturdays.

During these periods, call 1-800-899-1621 30 minutes before your trip to book a ride from any regular route 84 bus stop.

Increasing service along a current route


20 Jane - Concord

Starting Sunday, April 25, YRT increases service along the route by operating buses until 10:30 p.m. Sundays and holidays. The later service accommodates passengers traveling from Canada’s Wonderland.

All buses operating along the route serve Wonderland seven days a week until October.

32 Aurora South

Friday, April 23 is the last day that YRT operates the northbound bus that currently leaves Unionville GO Station at 7:15 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The bus arrives at Major Mackenzie Drive East and Ridgecrest Road at 7:40 p.m.)

41 Markham local

Dial-a-ride buses serve passengers wanting to travel along the route from 7:40 p.m. until 11:10 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays.

Friday, April 23 is the last day that YRT operates the eastbound buses that leave Markdale Mall at 8:15 a.m. Mondays to Fridays, 11:40 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays and 12:40 and 1:40 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays. (The buses arrive at Fincham and 16th Avenues at 9:50 a.m. Mondays to Fridays, 12:15 a.m. Tuesdays to Sundays and 1:15 and 2:15 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays.)

YRT is also adjusting the schedule of the route.

45 Mingay

Friday, April 23 is the last day that YRT operates the southbound bus that leaves Major Mackenzie Drive East and Mingay Avenue at 7:45 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The bus arrives at Markville Mall at 8:03 p.m.) It’s also the last day that it operates the northbound bus that leaves Markville at 7:25 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The bus arrives at Major Mackenzie and Mingay at 7:45 p.m.)

9 9th Line

Fewer passengers are riding buses operating along the route except Mondays to Fridays during rush hours, so YRT is decreasing the service at other times of the day.

Friday, April 23 is the last day that YRT operates the southbound bus that leaves 9th Line and Millard Avenue at 11:45 a.m. Mondays to Fridays and Parkview Village at 8:20 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses arrive at Markham Stouffville Hospital at noon and 8:35 p.m.) It’s also the last day that it operates the northbound bus that leaves Markham Stouffville Hospital at 10 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The bus arrives at Parkview Village at 10:15 a.m.)

84A / 84C Oak Ridges

Dial-a-ride buses serve passengers wanting to travel along the route Mondays to Friday from 9:20 a.m. until 2 p.m. and from 6:20 until 8:20 p.m. and Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. until 8:08 p.m.

15 Stouffville local

Fewer passengers are riding buses operating along the route except Mondays to Fridays during rush hours, so YRT is decreasing the service at other times of the day.

Friday, April 23 is the last day that YRT operates the eastbound bus that leaves Walmart at 10:50 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The bus arrives at Main Street and Eastern Gate at 11:15 a.m.) It’s also the last day that it operates the eastbound buses that leave Walmart at 11:35 a.m. and 8:10 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses arrive at Parkview Village at 11:45 a.m. and 8:20 p.m.)

It’s also the last day that YRT operates the westbound buses that leave Eastern Gate at 10:30 and 11:15 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses arrive at Walmart at 10:50 and 11:35 a.m.)

40 Unionville local

11 Woodbridge

Fewer passengers are riding buses operating along the route except Mondays to Fridays during rush hours, so YRT is canceling service at other times of the week. Saturday, April 23 is the last day that YRT operates buses along the route Mondays to Fridays from about 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. and after 10 p.m. and all day Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Starting Monday, April 26, southbound buses leave Martin Grove Road and Forest Drive only at 5:30, 6, 6:30, 7:05, 7:40, 8:50 and 9:20 a.m. and 3:03, 4:35, 5:10, 5:45, 6:20 and 6:55 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. Two more southbound buses leave Kipling Avenue and Vaughan Mills Road at 8:18 a.m. and 3:48 p.m. Northbound buses leave the Steeles / Islington Loop only at 5:45, 6:15, 6:45, 7:20, 7:55, 8:30 and 9:05 a.m. and 3:25, 4:15, 4:50, 5:25, 6, 6:35 and 7:10 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.

32 Aurora South

Starting Monday, YRT increases the frequency of service along the route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. Buses operate about every 23 minutes during morning rush hours. Buses operate about every 27 minutes during afternoon rush hours.

YRT is also decreasing service along the route by replacing regular transit service with “dial-a-ride” service at other times of the week.

Starting Monday, April 26, YRT decreases the frequency of service Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. Buses operate every 20 minutes in both directions. (Currently, westbound buses operate about every 15 minutes during the morning rush hours and every 20 minutes during the afternoon rush. Eastbound buses operate about every 20 minutes during the morning rush hours and every 15 minutes during the afternoon rush.)

Revising current routes


20 Jane - Concord

Starting Sunday, April 25, all north- and southbound buses resume service into Canada’s Wonderland seven days a week.

YRT is also increasing service by operating buses along the route later Sunday-and-holiday evenings.

202 Unionville GO shuttle

Starting Monday, April 26, YRT revises the route, so that buses operate more directly between Main Street Unionville and Unionville GO Station.

Southbound buses operate along their current route to Main Street Unionville and Enterprise Boulevard, then proceed:

westward along Enterprise; and then
southward along Rivis Road to YMCA Boulevard,
resuming their regular route westward along YMCA.

Northbound buses reverse this routing.

Starting Monday, April 26, the eastbound bus that currently leaves Angus Glen Community Centre at 7:38 a.m. Mondays to Fridays, leaves six minutes earlier at 7:32 a.m.

Starting Monday, April 26, YRT increases the frequency of service so that buses operate every 20 minutes Mondays to Fridays during morning rush hours.

55 Davis Drive

Starting Monday, April 26, YRT adjusts the schedule so that all westbound buses leaving the 404 Town Centre from 9 a.m. until 9:45 p.m. Mondays to Fridays have more time to finish each trip to the Newmarket GO Bus Terminal. The buses leave the Town Centre at the same times as they do currently, but arrive at the GO Bus Terminal one to three minutes later than currently.

The eastbound bus that currently leaves the Newmarket GO Bus Terminal at 5:30 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves five minutes later at 5:35 p.m.

1 Highway 7

Starting Monday, April 26, YRT adjusts the schedule so that the westbound bus that currently leaves Markham Stouffville Hospital at 5:10 a.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves five minutes earlier at 5:05 a.m. The earlier trip improves service for passengers transferring at Richmond Hill Centre Terminal to YRT buses operating along the Viva blue route.

YRT is also decreasing the frequency of service along the route.

34 Industrial Parkway

Starting Monday, April 26, the southbound buses that leave St. John’s Sideroad East and Bayview Avenue at 8:35 a.m. and 7:35 p.m. Mondays to Fridays arrive at Yonge and Edward Streets at 8:50 a.m. and 7:50 p.m., then continue along Edward Street and Allaura Boulevard, ending their trips at Allaura and Yonge.

The southbound bus that leaves St. John’s and Bayview at 8:35 a.m. arrives at all stops south of St. John’s Sideroad three to six minutes later than currently.

13 Islington

Starting Monday, April 26, the southbound bus that currently leaves Napa Valley and Islington Avenues at 8:05 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves five minutes later at 8:10 p.m. The bus arrives at the Steeles / Islington Loop at 8:30 p.m.

The northbound bus that currently leaves the Steeles / Islington Loop at 7:45 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves five minutes later at 7:50 p.m. The bus arrives at Napa Valley and Islington Avenues at 8:10 p.m.

22 King City

Starting Monday, April 26, the southbound bus that currently leaves Seneca College’s King Campus at 3:11 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves 11 minutes earlier at 3 p.m. The bus arrives at McNaughton Road and Troon Avenue in Maple at 3:35 p.m.

41 Markham local

Starting Monday, April 26, the eastbound bus that currently leaves Markville Mall at 8:55 a.m. leaves five minutes later at 9 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. The bus arrives at Fincham and 16th Avenues at 9:15 a.m.

223 Newmarket GO shuttle

Starting Monday, April 26, the **southbound bus that currently leaves Sawmill Valley and Mulock Drives at 6:25 a.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves five minutes earlier at 6:20 a.m. The bus arrives at Newmarket GO Station at 6:35 a.m. An earlier trip improves service for passengers wanting to transfer to GO Transit trains operating along the 65 Barrie line at Newmarket GO Station.

84A / 84C Oak Ridges

Starting Monday, April 26, the 84C (counterclockwise) bus that leaves Yonge Street and King Road at 8:42 a.m. Mondays to Fridays operates to Cardinal Carter Catholic High School but does not operate to the No Frills Plaza.

YRT is also decreasing service by introducing new “dial-a-ride” service along the route.

12 Pine Valley

Starting Monday, April 26, the southbound bus that currently leaves Vaughan Mills Terminal at 1:40 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves three minutes later at 1:43 p.m. It arrives at Steeles / Islington Loop at 2:03 p.m.

The northbound buses that currently leave Steeles / Islington Loop at 10:15, 11 and 11:45 a.m. and 12:30 and 1:15 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leave five minutes later at 10:20, 11:05 and 11:50 a.m. and 12:35 and 1:20 p.m. They arrive at Vaughan Mills Terminal at 10:43 and 11:28 a.m. and 12:13, 12:58 and 1:43 p.m.

The northbound bus that currently leaves Steeles / Islington Loop at 2 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves three minutes later at 2:03 p.m. It arrives at Vaughan Mills Terminal at 2:26 p.m.

Starting Saturday, May 1, the northbound buses that currently leave Steeles / Islington Loop at 8:30, 9:15, 10, 10:45 and 11:30 a.m. and 12:15, 1, 1:45, 2:30, 3:15, 4 and 4:45 p.m. Saturdays leave six minutes later at 8:36, 9:21, 10:06, 10:51 and 11:36 a.m. and 12:21, 1:06, 1:51, 2:36, 3:21, 4:06 and 4:51 p.m. They arrive at Vaughan Mills Terminal at 9, 9:45, 10:30 and 11:15 a.m., noon and 12:45, 1:30, 2:15, 3, 3:45, 4:30 and 5:15 p.m.

243 Redstone GO shuttle

GO Transit revised the schedule for its 61 Richmond Hill train service, starting Monday, April 5. The bus that currently leaves Bayview Avenue and Redstone road at 7:50 a.m. Mondays to Fridays arrives at Richmond Hill GO Station too late for passengers to connect with the GO train. Friday, April 23 is the last day that YRT operates this bus.

23 Thornhill Woods

Starting Monday, April 26, the northbound bus that currently leaves Finch GO Bus Terminal at 3 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves seven minutes later at 3:07 p.m. The later trip improves service for passengers transferring to and from YRT buses operating along the 5 Clark route and better accommodates passengers traveling from Vaughan Secondary School.

40 Unionville local

Starting Monday, April 26, the eastbound bus that currently leaves Woodbine Avenue and Rodick Road at 7:27 a.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves two minutes earlier at 7:25 a.m. The earlier trip helps passengers transfer to and from buses operating along the 1 Highway 7 route.

The eastbound buses that currently leave Woodbine Avenue and Roddick Road at 9:40, 10:40 and 11:40 a.m. and 12:40 and 1:40 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leave two minutes earlier at 9:38, 10:38 and 11:38 a.m. and 12:38 and 1:38 p.m. The buses arrive at Markville Mall at 10:08 and 11:08 a.m. and 12:08, 1:08 and 2:08 p.m.

YRT is also decreasing service by introducing new “dial-a-ride” service along the route.

53 Woodspring - Clearmeadow

Starting Monday, April 26, the southbound bus that currently leaves Newmarket GO Bus Terminal at 5:58 a.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves five minutes earlier at 5:53 a.m. The bus arrives at Mulock High School (Sawmill Valley Drive and Columbus Way) at 6:10 p.m.

The northbound bus that currently leaves Mulock High School at 6:15 a.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves five minutes earlier at 6:10 a.m. The bus arrives at the Newmarket GO Bus Terminal at 6:25 a.m. and Green Lane and Yonge Street at 6:36 a.m.

The earlier trips improve service for passengers transferring to GO Transit and other YRT buses at Newmarket GO Bus Terminal.
